Service Problems
The Majority of the Network, Servers. Desktops and Laptops are over five years old and not under support any longer.
Traditional desktop image management has become very complex due to the variation of software, hardware and driver requirements.
Normal support systems are not sustainable, the Service Desk could not keep up with the calls for service.
Virtualization of servers lead to new network and SAN requirements. Which lead to the viability of VDI.
A systematic virtualization solution for desktops was needed that took into account the Service Desk.

Realized Service Desk Benefits
Very few service calls – The calls now are focused on software needs!
Efficient desktop modification – Updates take less than 10 minutes! Fast Refresh - Replacing the physical desktop takes 45 minutes! License compliance – We know moment by moment what is being
used! Unauthorized software control! – We now know the variables! Increased security, decreased risk – Data stays in Data Center!
Pano client does not require emulated drivers, which simplifies the user experience with any peripheral. - Translation - no support call!
Observations
The key to sustainable VDI is the ability of tier 1 Service Desk personnel being able to manage any virtual desktop for any user.
If we can’t effectively support our desktops we will never be able to take on the use of mobile handheld devices.
Cross platform support of servers is only the first step. With the introduction of tablets into the enterprise we will be forced to support multiple OS types both on mobile devices and desktops.
