Masdar City represents a new era. The creation of this self-sufficient city in Abu Dhabi has already begun in
2009, but is still in full effect. Envisioned as the city of the future, with innovation discernible in every inch and on
every corner.Politics and the financial crisis delayed the original plan however. Still, the first part (which costs approximately
$22 billon) is planned for 2015 and it has been of inspiration to lots of other projects.

Fix My Street is an app that enables any user to report, view and discuss local problems in their community. One
could think of problems like graffiti or street lighting. All the reports are then send towards the council through
the Fix My Street website.In line with trends such as the Power of the Social Weband Future Onlife, smart online facilitated initiatives like
these are making it easy for citizens to report their problems and contribute to a safer and more transparent
community.

Cities are growing rapidly and in tandem with this, ideas on how to keep them liveable, thus reducing carbon footprints, are high on every municipality’s agenda.
The electric car will most certainly help with this, in which the tech-savvy city par excellence San Francisco is
leading the way. But it can also be much simpler. The city of Bogota
(Columbia) has made its bicycle lanes (350km) top of the bill, making it Cool and effective again for inhabitants to ride their bikes to work. Besides that, special bus lanes have also been constructed, which resulted in less cars on the road, hence cleaner air and less traffic problems.
And as a nice bonus: happier citizens.

Restaurant Day is a worldwide food festival. Anyone can set up his or her own restaurant, café or bar for a day. It can happen anywhere: at your home, at the office, on a
street corner, in your garden or inner courtyard, at a park or on the beach. It is the biggest food festival in the
world, 4 times a year in 55 different countries. A big part of the Future Urbanities trend is what we call
Tender in the City: the desire to experience tender stories in your city, thus connecting more closely with
others and the city you live in.

Examples here are also numerous. Our cities will face a lot of vacant buildings in the years to come. Think for instance of all the office buildings. Yet smart solutions
