Annual Easter Program
By Angles Pate
Jesus says in Mark
10: 13-16, “Let the
little children come to
me and do not hinder
them, for the king-
dom of God belongs
to such as these.”
During the Easter sea-
son we engage and
encourage the chil-
dren to embrace the
risen Savior. We can
use this time to teach
our youth about the
Easter story.
The Easter story can
be difficult for some
children to understand
and grasp. Therefore, a
simple approach to help-
ing children understand
the Easter story, is to
have them recite speech-
es, act in roles that depict
Jesus Christ’s life , death
and resurrection also
through song and dance.
The Annual Easter Pro-
gram was a total success.
All of the children performed
with excellence, regardless of
the role they played. Parents,
thank you for your support in
working with the youth. Your
support helps to reinforce the
importance of the Easter story
which is, “Christ the Lord is
indeed risen!”
Our prayer is that you contin-
ue throughout the year to em-
phasize, to all youth, the im-
portance of the
Easter story
and encourage
them to remain
close to Jesus,
his word and
his teachings.
nute all is well and the next
minute anything that can
go wrong will go wrong.
When bad things happen as
they often do, we have to
look deep into the situation
and find the good. If we
look hard enough we will
find it. A grade of B is
good. Another job is just
around the corner waiting
on you to apply. And fortu-
nately an illness has a prov-
en cure. Don’t allow your-
self get bogged down in
negative thinking. Select a
scripture verse that encourages
your heart, think positively and
continue on. When you stop and
think about it, you might ask this
question, “Why Not Me?”
God is in charge of our lives. He
watches over us and asks only
that we believe in Him and abide
by is His words. God has a way of
working things out for us. We
just have to believe and look for
the good.

No matter what age
we are, we have at
some point asked our-
selves this question,
“Why Me?” Life has a
way of throwing us a
curve when we have
alternate plans. We
can plan and organize
and arrange perfectly. Unfor-
tunately, something will invar-
iably go wrong. We study hard
to make an A and we make a
B. We interview for a job and
the answer is no. When some-
one is diagnosed with an ill-
ness we are afraid. One mi-

An elderly black gentleman
was approached once, by a
well-meaning white mission-
ary, who had taken the time
and spent the energy
handing out Tracts ‘across
the tracks.’ Being mindful
not to miss an opportunity
or a person with smile
aglow and courage in-tow,
he asked the old man,
“May I give you one of my
Tracts, to read in your
spare time?” The old man
gently shook his head and
smiled, “No sir, thank
you,” he replied. With a
kind and engaging persis-
tence, the visitor from
across the tracks respond-
ed, “Please, take it. It may
mean the salvation of your
soul!” The old man chuckled
and sheepishly told him,
“Mister, I can’t read. So your
Tract won’t do me any good”.
The man blushed and looked
toward the ground not knowing
what to say. The old man said,
“I can’t read your Tract, but I
can read your tracks, if you
don’t mind.”

Lane College Service Project By Deborah Harris
The members of Greenwood C.M.E. Church worked with
First Lady Deborah Harris to participate in the Lane College
Service Project, sponsored by the West Tennessee Region
Ministers’ Spouses Widows and Widowers Department.
First Lady Harris serves as Regional President and worked
with the other Ministers’ Spouses to insure that the Project
was a success. This is the 3rd year for the Project as well as
the 3rd year that the Greenwood Church organizations and
members worked to collect needed items for the students
at Lane College.
Lane College is the only CME Church Historically Black Col-
lege (HBCU) located in the First Episcopal District (Arkansas
and Tennessee). First Lady Harris shared, “We have so
many students who live far distances from Jackson, TN,
who will remain on the campus to attend Summer ses-
sions. “ These students are in need of the following items:
school supplies, toiletries, snacks, bottled water, soap and
body wash, washing powder pods, back packs and other
items. Mrs. Rose Flenoyl secured backpacks, for the stu-
dents, from the FedEx Corporation. She has assisted with
this project since its inception
Members of the Church “Dream Team,” along with Minis-
ters’ and Spouses from other Churches, gathered to organ-
ize and pack 50 “Care Packages” for delivery to the College
on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Thanks to Calvin Screen, our
driver, for his diligence in working with the team to get
these items to the College. A Team of Spouses accompa-
nied Calvin and delivered the items. The students were
very happy and appreciative to see the love and generosity
shown to them, yet again, from the Ministers’ Spouses and
the Churches in the West TN Region. I want to thank all of
the “Dream Team” members, Ministers, organizations and
members of Greenwood for your assistance. One of the
recipients was Jonathan Carpenter, the grandson of Bishop
Henry M. Williamson, Sr. and Dr. Doris Y. Wil-
liamson. Jonathan graduated with a Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration on Saturday,
April 28, 2018.
