G9B fixed position rotating sootblower

Page 2: G9B_Brochure_Marine Boiler Soot Blowers.pdf

The G9B sootblower is designed toremove ash deposits from tube sur-faces in stationary, marine boilers, waste heat boilers, and direct-firedoil-heaters, where gas temperaturezones inside the boiler permit afixed cleaning element.

The G9B may also be used forcleaning low-temperature gaszones in large boilers, includingreheaters, economizers, and gasrecirculation and precipitator ducts.A multi-nozzled element is used in alane blowing or mass blowing con-figuration for complete cleaning ofthe boiler tube surface area (seeadjacent figure). Four elementmaterials are available for differenttemperature requirements.

The G9B blower requires onlyone operation to rotate the blowingelement and simultaneously openand close the supply valve.

The G9B can be configured tooperate with an electric motor, airmotor, chain (manual), or crank.

Where differential expansionbetween the tube bank and boilerwall exceeds 5/8", a self-adjustingflexible element connection pre-vents the element from beingstressed, thus decreasing elementbreakage and warpage. The headis rigidly bolted to the wallbox, withthe element moving freely.

A floater mounted head is usedwhen less than 5/8" differentialexpansion takes place between theboiler wall and boiler. The floaterprovides for piping expansion andeliminates element binding frompiping strain. Either arrangementprovides for longitudinal adjustmentof the blowing element.

When manually operated headsare located within reach of the flooror gallery, the sheave wheel andoperating chain can be replaced bya forged steel crank.

The elevation at left shows a typi-cal Diamond Power® G9B soot-blower system. The arrangementshows (A) three convection-sec-tion G9B blowers and (B) two ofthe four G9B blowers installed inthe economizer at the rear of theboiler.

Lane blowing: Nozzles are reg-istered with tube lanes so the ele-ment can be located immediatelynext to the tube bank. Thisarrangement is generally used inboiler convection-sections orwhere there is not enough cavityspace for mass blowing.Elements for lane blowing willhave proportionately more noz-zles of smaller diameter than ele-ments used for mass blowing.

Mass blowing: For larger cavityareas and staggered tubearrangements, the element hasfewer nozzles of larger diameterto create a "mass" blowing effectacross the entire tube surface—a "shotgun" instead of "rifle"effect.A. Direct mechanical valveaction without

Positive gear drive directfrom motor, chain wheel, orhand crank.

Element material and nozzles are customized to meet boiler design spec-ifications for gas stream temperature andash deposition characteristics.

Positive action poppetvalve, with direct mechanicalactuation, provides reliable, fullstroke opening and closing.

Cam-and-trigger operationprovides flexibility of blowingcontrol, allowing the blowing arcto be changed at any time byaltering the cam length.

Built-in adjustable pressure control permits indi-vidual blowing pressure settingsthat meet optimum installationrequirements.

Pressure regulation is achievedby simple adjustment of a vari-able orifice downstream of thevalve seat. This eliminates sur-face cutting and unstable pres-sure which occur when throttlingis attempted by varying thestroke of the valve. The flexibleseat and self-aligning disc mini-mize leakage from thermal distor-tion. A self-centering disc extendssealing life.

The following is a suggested state-ment for specifying this sootblow-er: “The fixed position rotatingsootblower(s) shall be DiamondModel G9B (or approved equal)complete with totally enclosedelectric-motor drive (or completewith air-motor drive and control, etc.—or complete with manually-operated gear drive) providingclockwise element rotation, mechanical poppet valve-in-headwith integral and internallyadjustable pressure control inde-

Longitudinal element adjust-ment shall be available. The soot-blower head and piping shall besecured in such a way as to beindependent of the boiler tubemovement. The elements shall beconnected to the G9B by means ofcouplings that assure freedom ofelement rotation. The element shall
