Invitation to tender – Container Side Lifter

GABCON APPRECIATES CUSTOMERS FOR LOYALTYGABCON held its Inaugural Customer Appreciation Day last week

to recognise its customer for their loyalty and commitment over the years. This day was also to share the company’s five years

ROAD TO RAIL strategic highlights. GABCON Managing Director Lesedi Moakofhi told customers that she recognise that being the first and only container terminal in the country does not make us immune to competition but customers have supported the company through industry challenges. She also indicated that although they have given customers exceptional service over the years they have also encountered service challenges that may have lost them some customers but she trusts that GABCON’s responsiveness is what has retained them.

“GABCON facility is a Customs bonded area which allows highly secured cargo containers to be moved directly from point of origin from as far as China, Europe, Durban and many other places to GABCON. Our terminal has the capability to store thousands of containers and we have the most advanced Container lifting equipment in the country for transport and placing a container on the ground for easy loading/offloading.” Said Ms Moakofhi

“Supply chains compete, not products or commodities; hence the importance to integrate the service offerings from origins to destination, with specific attention to smooth integration of terminals into the rail service” said Mr Andrew Mukanyima of ARUP, the strategy consultant addressing the premise from which a logistics hub should

build from. On the strategy highlights Mrs Moakofhi, indicated that the

consolidation of all three terminals under a unified GABCON structure for improved governance, pricing strategy, customer service offerings and customer services standards in ongoing. It also speaks to the development of a Freight Village in Gaborone for logistics value added services to include but not limited to a consolidation centre in Gauteng for traffic to terminals, weighbridge on site in line with SOLAS requirements and more

She confirmed that continually engage their customers to get feedback on their service and ensuring that they are all given the service as per the company’s promise. She also reminded the audience that the company’s goods and services are accessed by all customers to include individuals and commercial entities within and outside the borders of Botswana.

GABCON is competing on an international platform by facilitates the movement of goods containers via rail to and from South African Sea and Dry Ports linking the rest of the world’s international ports.

The event was also graced by the Botswana Railways (Shareholder) Board Chair Mr Adolf Hirschfeld, who confirmed that it is in their interest that GABCON served its customers well for its growth. He also mentioned that is necessary for Botswana to participate in international trade and moving cargo is core thus this relationship should be nurtured.
