Library Reminder

During the last six weeks we have purchased lots of new books for Sixth Form and School Libraries. All books are now catalogued and ready to read. Our next step is to recall all our outstanding loans. The process will be: Books are taken out for a two week period. They can be returned to the Library earlier than two weeks or have the loan period extended for a week at a time, by the Librarian.

After three weeks, a letter will be sent to the form teacher who will remind the student to return the book to the Library.

After four weeks, a letter/email will be sent home to Parent/Carer, to remind the student to return the overdue book.

After six weeks, with book not returned, a phone call home, to Parent/Carer, for either money for new book or replacement book.

When we have all overdue books returned we will be rearranging book shelving to promote all stock to enable better selection for students. Your help in this matter would be much appreciated. Mrs Georgiou - Librarian

How Technology is Changing Us

Star Wars Club

Star Wars Club is a friendly place for children. It is on Thursdays and Fridays at Food Break 2. If your Form Teacher knows, you can stay for the whole hour of Food Break. You are allowed to bring food, but it has to be cold. The things you get to do at Star Wars Club are really fun. You get to take the books home and read there. To sign up go to the Library at any time. It is in the LRC at 12.15 -1.15

- Written by Adem Burton Year 7

The pre-dominance of watching a television set as a childhood pastime is likely to end within the next two years - with youngsters likely to be spending more time online for the first time ever. Future generations of children are also more likely to watch content, such as TV programmes, on a tablet, or even a phablet (a tablet-style mobile phone) than they are a traditional television set, laptop or PC. Soon children will expect to stay connected at all times – everywhere and anywhere. In the next two years Children’s internet use is likely to overshadow the television. TV viewing on traditional sets continues to decline at a steady rate, whilst hours spent online will increase. Children expect to choose the content they engage with and on-demand services like Netflix will be the norm. In the next five years Likely convergence of technology currently in use. Some children may choose ‘phablets’ (tablet-like phones) instead of the current popular combination of phone and tablet/laptop. Televisions likely to be increasingly internet-connected, allowing streaming of content from portable devices to the big screen. Cloud technology means children will expect to access their files and information anywhere and on any device. In the next 10 years Children growing up will have little understanding of a world without the internet. Having appliances which cannot be con-trolled using a smartphone or some kind of online dashboard may be seen as out-dated, or at least increasingly rare. Wearable technology is likely to have progressed significantly by this point.
