Our societies today are confronted with disruptive change. Digitalization, climate change, refugees, and economic inequality are some examples. These disruptive changes not only create challenges, they also invite us to innovate and think outside of the box.

Values-based banks use finance as a tool to address these challenges. Leaders in values-based banks need to develop the capacity to work with these disruptions in a positive and innovative way. To help leaders develop these skills, the Global Alliance for Banking on Values, in collaboration with the Presencing Institute and the MIT Community Innovators Lab invites you to join:

the GABV Leadership Academy.

WHAT IS THE GABV LEADERSHIP ACADEMY?

The GABV Leadership Academy is designedto help leaders in values-based banks advance their leadership skills and capacity in order to supporttheir respective banks address the challenges they face. Over a period of 8 months, participantsin the Academy convene for three, in-personmodules, and participate in coaching sessionsand projects between the modules. We accept up to 25 participants each year.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?

The Leadership Academy is designed for bankers in GABV member banks or non-member banks that aim to expand their values-based banking activities. Participants benefit most from the program when they:

Have worked in their respective bank for at least three years,

Lead a team, a department or a project, or are a senior co-worker with a wide range of responsibilities;

Are open to new ideas and advancing their personal leadership skills;

Are interested in thinking about innovations for values-based banking, and

Are committed to advancing the idea and practice of values-based banking.

PROGRAM LANGUAGE

The program is conducted in English.

To be part of the first GABV Leadership Academy was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. A chance for me to grow in my own personal leadership to be more courageous and confident in my role. It also allowed me time for reflection, I learned that a strong leader has to look outward and inward and to always bring my authentic self.

FORMAT: THREE MODULES PLUS COACHING SESSIONS

The program combines three in-person modules with individual and group coaching between the modules. Modules 1 and 2 will be hosted by a GABV member bank, and module 3 by the MIT Community Innovators Lab and the Presencing Institute in Cambridge, USA.

Throughout the eight months, participants will: Develop and advance their leadership capacity

in the context of values-based banking; Learn about and explore a wide variety of values-

based banking models and financial innovations; Develop personal and cultural skills; Practice innovation techniques and initiate

individual change projects; Explore societal challenges and innovative

solutions to address them;

Each of the three modules has two parts: Part I is focused on discussions with thought leaders and innovators, and includes learning journeys to places of innovation and clients of values-based banks. Part II of each module explores concepts and theories on leadership, values-based banking, and innovation, and has a strong focus on personal and reflective leadership practices as well as on tools and best practices, including state of the art leadership approaches.

ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT AND COMMUNICATION

We recommend that organizations send teams or several individuals from one organization. In addition, the Human Development Group of the GABV recommends a close communication between the participants of the program, their team members, colleagues and their direct reports at home about the purpose and the content of the program. The facilitators of the Leadership Academy will support participants’ interaction and communication with their respective organizations by providing guidance and learning materials. The members of the GABV Human Development group will also provide guidance.
