Players approach a mannequin and perform a variety of feints (1v1 skills) and complete a “1” “2” pass with the awaiting player and follow their pass to the back of the opposite line. Exercises to use: Drop 1 shoulder the drop 2 shoulders and shift the ball in the opposite direction. Single scissor and then a double scissor and shift the ball in the opposite direction. Attack the mannequin at pace, decelerate just before the ‘defender’ get them off balanced with a shoulder drop and explode in the opposite direction while under close control. Work both feet in equal capacity. Take 2-3minutes on each skills et with a 60-90 sec rest in between skills. Technical Competition 10 mins Repeat the skill from above but introduce a shot to finish on goal. You can introduce a points system. 1pt for a goal. 2pts if you perform a shoulder drop and score. 3pts if you perform a scissor and score. Player are responsible for their ball and join the back of the opposite line. Work both angles in equal portions. Players accumulate their own scores. Work 3mins each side (R foot only, L foot only and Alternate) A progression can be to make 2 teams and have the same scoring system but with their teams. Again 3 mins each working both angle of approaches. You now promote the individual skill and team dynamic. Adam Day Technical Director U13+ Running with the Ball - 'Key Points'. 1 v 1. Page 2: GAC Training Session Running with the Ball #1 (U13+)...attacking 3rd. to goal • rd2 players can join the attacking 3 when they are in possession to make a 3v2 overload. • Once

• Always be prepared to adapt to your group’s needs. The ability of the players will always vary so try to find the balance between challenging the players and giving them success.

• Try to progress exercises 2-3 times per drill to keep the intensity, challenge and knowledge increasing. (Unopposed- Opposed- Competition- Time edge, Dimensions, Number of players)

• Try to ‘layer’ the field to enable quick transitions between exercises. Try to have the same grid easily dividable for each exercise to save time on set up.

• Allow quick drink breaks between exercises to allow time for set up or transitions between exercises while keeping the session at a high intensity.

SSG– 15 mins • Free Play.4v4+1 or 5v5 +1. • 3 Zones. 2v1 in each defensive zone, 2v2+1 in the middle zone. • Coach / Server / GK serves into either of the two defenders in the

defensive zone, they can pass or dribble into the middle zone to progress.

• Once the ball is in the middle zone, any one attacking player can go out to the safe zone in the wide area to receive. No defender can track into that zone but you do not have to go to the safe zone to progress to goal(optional)

• Players who receive in the safe zone must attack 1v1 in the attacking 3rd. to goal

• 2 players can join the attacking 3rd when they are in possession to make a 3v2 overload.

• Once the game is in the attacking 3rd, the game and zones are open until a restart in which you re set the starting points.

Match Play– 15 mins

• All restarts from GKs. 3 Zones playing a 2-2-1 formation. • GK plays into defensive zone and the players have to

dribble to advance the ball into the next zone. The player who advances may progress into the attacking zone if they continue on the dribble.

• There will be a 3v2 overload in the middle zone and a 2v2 in the attacking zone so you could allow a secondary midfielder to support the play for a 3v2 to finish.

• Players are restricted to zones unless dribbling or supporting as explained.

• Keep the ball below head height. • If the defending team wins possession, they can play

back to the GK for a new restart or have 7 secs to score before they must restart with the GK
