A quelques heures de son show, le dandy créateur est aux anges. Sa collection, présentée pour la première fois en même temps

que le prêt-à-porter, lui ressemble : estivale, joyeuse… et décalée. Gala : Avec un tel patronyme, votre voie

semblait toute tracée…

Alexis Mabille : Déjà enfant, je voulais faire de la mode. Lorsque je me suis lancé, ma société portait un autre nom. Après six mois, je me suis rendu à l’évidence, le nom Alexis Mabille marquait plus les mémoires. Je l’ai conservé.Gala : Comment vous définissez-vous ?

A. M. : A travers mes créations. Je suis d’une culture très classique, l’histoire du costume me passionne, tout particuliè-rement la période Second Empire. J’aime la déco, la couleur… je suis un amoureux de la vie tout simplement.Gala : Comment sera votre printemps

2011 ?

A. M. : Très bain de soleil. Un mix de formes géométriques et de formes plus douces, des jerseys mélangés à de la soie, du coton à du lin, de la crinoline, des transparences et du cuir… C’est la rencontre d’une petite fille modèle avec un personnage sorti du film Blade Runner. Avec dix vêtements de cette collection, vous pouvez créer une vingtaine d’associa-tions : c’est le retour des separates américains, des basiques à accorder et à désaccorder.Gala : Allons-nous retrouver certaines

de vos créations cultes ?

A. M. : Oui, le nœud papillon sera toujours présent, juste suggéré. Ma robe « carrée » signée avec une œuvre du peintre Raoul Dufy, plus intéressante qu’un simple imprimé. Gala : Comment se déroule votre

processus créatif ?

A. M. : Il n’y a pas de pathos dans ma création. En avion, comme je dors peu, je profite d’un Paris-New York pour dessiner une collection. Lorsque j’ai une idée, je m’y tiens. C’est plus facile pour ceux qui travaillent avec moi. Comme dans tout atelier, je rencontre des imprévus, des tissus qui n’arrivent pas… mais je prends toujours de l’avance. Gala : Que ressentez-vous lors du final ?

A. M. : C’est sympa. Malgré les applaudis-sements, on peut sentir comment la collec-tion est accueillie.

Alexis Mabille: Even when I was a kid, I wanted to do fashion. My company had a different name when I first got started, but after six months, I saw the writing on the wall – people remembered the name Alexis Mabille much better, so I kept it.Gala: How would you define yourself?

A. M.: Through my designs. I come from a very traditional culture; I’m fascinated by the history of clothing, especially the Second French Empire period. I like the décor, colours… I’m just plain in love with life. Gala: What will your Spring 2011 be like?

A. M.: Very “bain de soleil.” Mixing geometrics and

softer shapes, jerseys with silk, cotton with linen, crinoline, transparencies and leather… Sweet little girl meets Blade Runner character. You can create twenty or so combinations with ten articles from this collection: it’s the return of the American separates, basic pieces to mix and match. Gala: Will we see any of your cult creations?

A. M.: Yes, the bow tie will be there, hinted at. My “square” dress with one of painter Raoul Dufy’s works, more interesting than a simple print. Gala: What takes place in your creative process?

A. M.: There is no emotionalism in my creation. Since I don’t sleep much on the plane, I take advantage Paris-New York flights to design a collection. When I have an idea, I stick with it. It’s easier for those working with me. The unexpected happens, of course, like in all ateliers – say the fabric doesn’t show up - but I always move ahead in my work.Gala: What are your feelings during the final show?

Andrew Gn: My theme is the early 70s - a combination of British designers Bill Gibb , Ossie Clark and Jean Muir, but reinterpreted by Andrew GN! There’s lots of chiffon, double-crepe, sleek pantsuits...and maxi-dresses in deep purple! Think BIBA girls with long, straight hair, smoky eyes and prune lips.Gala: Your style icon?

A. G.: I’d love to say Marianne Faithfull in the late 60s for her great long straight blonde hair and her exotic style of dressing. But also Bianca Jagger! Her man-nish tailoring, the beautiful longer jacket over flared pants...that great white pantsuit she wore to her wedding to Mick Jagger! Gala: LE fashion faux pas?

Andrew Gn : très 70’s, en référence aux créateurs anglais Bill Gibb, Ossie Clarke et Jean Muir, mais réinterprété par Andrew Gn ! Il y aura beaucoup de mousseline, de double-crêpe, des tailleurs-pantalons près du corps… et des robes maxi violet foncé ! Imaginez les filles de Biba avec leurs cheveux longs et raides, leurs yeux noirs et les lèvres prune.Gala : Votre icône de mode ?

A. G. : Marianne Faithfull à la fin des années 60, pour son style aventurier et avant-garde. Mais aussi, Bianca Jagger avec ses costumes masculins, comme le blanc qu’elle portait lors de son mariage avec Mick Jagger.Gala : Le fashion faux pas ?

A. G. : Etre trop habillé ou trop peu. Il faut s’habiller « juste » en toute occa sion.

Ce soir-là, Vogue Italie lançait la marque Doodski, une ligne de tee-shirts

chics, chez L’Eclaireur, rue Boissy-d’Anglas. Malgré les deux heures de retard

des défilés Dior, Lanvin et Vivienne Westwood – et le temps pluvieux –, tout

le monde s’est déplacé pour encourager ce nouveau venu. Quelques shots de vodka

et autres grains de caviar plus tard, la fête battait son plein dans la galerie. Rue

Royale, c’est monsieur Nino Cerruti qui dévoilait le nouveau visage de sa boutique

historique (acquise en 1967), restée fermée une année durant. Des troncs de peu-

pliers brossés qui jaillissent du sol en pierre claire côtoyant le jardin d’hiver, tel est

le nouvel écrin repensé par l’architecte Christian Biecher. � NORA SAHLI

Vogue Italy launched a line of chic t-shirts by the name of Doodski at L’Eclaireur on Rue

Boissy-d’Anglas. Despite the Dior, Lanvin and Vivienne Westwood shows running

two hours late and drizzling weather, everyone made the trip to cheer on the new-

comer. A few vodka shots and mouthfuls of caviar later, the party was raising the

gallery roof. Over on Rue Royale, Mr Nino Cerruti was showing off the new look of

his historic boutique (acquired in 1967), which has been closed for a year. Architect

Christian Biecher dreamed up a fresh setting of brushed poplar trunks springing

from light-coloured stone flooring alongside the conservatory. � N. S.
