Practicing on the Golf Course Please see image to the right and notes below from a rightly concerned member. “I would like to draw your attention to the attached picture. I took it this on Saturday 12th approx. 50 yards from the 1st green close to from where I was hitting my approach shot and it annoyed me to say the least! It clearly shows the damage left behind by a member of the club who was out practicing their wedge shots on the course.

It is quite evident that whoever it was dropped 5 balls at this point and hit these after which no divots were replaced nor were they filled with the sand and seed mix. It is inexcusable that a member would do this as all should be aware that practicing on the course like this is very much frowned upon. On another matter can I comment on the number of ball-marks on the greens. This is not just from today but on each and every day that I play the course. On most every green I walk onto I find myself having to repair at a minimum 6/7 and in a lot of cases many more ball marks. It could be that my eyesight is better than most but I find on many occasions that these marks would be very evident to the group's playing ahead of me but they are simply not bothered. All members have a duty to assist in the upkeep of the golf course and to repair the damage caused by them in the course of their round! Well Said!

Member Aine Binchy Appointed to R& A Open Championship Committee Áine Binchy has been appointed onto the R&A Open Championship Committee. Áine qualified as a Golf Rules Official in 2012. Since then she has been busy, providing support on the rules of golf, to players and clubs in the district. In her role within the ILGU, she sits on the National Rules Committee and is Chairman of Rules in Connacht. She was appointed onto the R&A panel of Referees in 2017 following their merger with the LGU. It was through the R&A that she was elected onto the European Golf Association (EGA) Championship Committee, enabling her to gain vast experience running elite amateur championships. The R&A Open Championship Committee has responsibility for professional championships; The Open, The Women’s Open and The Senior’s Open. When asked about her appointment Aine said “This opportunity has come as a complete surprise and honour, but I am really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, all this refereeing whilst working full time has taken its toll on my own game”! Congratulations Aine from all at the club.

Health & Safety for Golfers Remember Your Responsibilities please.

Use the bell on the 15th hole to indicate when it’s safe to play.

Follow all Course Safety Signage.

Ensure proposed landing areas are clear of fellow golfers

before playing your shots, especially on holes 7, 12, 15 & 17

Stand a safe distance from the person swinging the club.

Yell “Fore” to warn fellow golfers of errant shots whether hit

by you or not.

Do not play under the influence of an intoxicant.

Be aware of your surrounding at all times.

Take care near all water hazards.

Exercise caution around all moving vehicles on the course and

in the carpark

Pace of Play Our agreed “Time Par” in Fourball Play is; 4 Hrs & 15 Min’s for 18 Holes 2 Hrs & 10 Min’s for 9 Holes This is not a Target – It is the Maximum Time Allowed

Suggestions for Improved Pace of Play

Allow Faster Groups to Play Through in Good Time

Be Ready to Play when it is your Turn

Agree with your Playing Partners a “Ready to Play” System

i.e. If you are Ready & it is Safe then Play! i.e. No “Honour” (except in Match play) – the 1st Player ready Plays i.e. Players should play their own ball before helping to look for a lost ball i.e. When not playing your shot you should be preparing to play your shot

Position Bags & Carts Correctly for a Quick Exit from Hole

Mark Scorecards between Holes as you Walk

If in Doubt Play a Provisional Ball

Watch the flight of the Ball Carefully

If each player in a fourball takes an average of just 5 seconds less to play each shot and if

each players shoots +10 (80)
