TEAM NOTES VS. TULSA• In the first week of play, six of 13 contests were won by
away teams, although both the Rangers and Tulsa earned homewins in their season openers.
• Saturday's game is the first of four meetings between thetwo sides this season. The Rangers will host the Roughneckson May 14 before traveling to Tulsa again on August 6. The twosides will close out their season series at Swope Soccer Villageon September 10.
PLAYER NOTES VS. TULSA• Kris Tyrpak leads the team with two goals against the
Roughnecks, both coming in a 20 Austin Aztex win on April 5,2015 at ONEOK Field. In three games vs. Tulsa in 2015, Tyrpakwas 111 as a member of the Aztex.
• Christian Duke has four career appearances against theRoughnecks, all coming in 2015 as a member of OKC EnergyFC. Of those four games, Duke started two and compiled a 112record.
• A teammate of Christian Duke at OKC Energy, JacobVanCompernolle started three of the club's four games againstTulsa last year, going 012 in those games.

The Swope Park Rangers began their preseason in excellent form, going 202 in the
Desert Diamond Cup and finishing top of the tournament's standings. The Rangers
claimed a 31 win in their firstever game against the Colorado Rapids on Feb. 17,
before playing to a 00 tie with Arizona United SC three days later. SPR faced another
MLS side on Feb. 24, drawing 22 with Columbus Crew SC and closing out the
tournament with a 10 win over hosts FC Tucson. The Rangers went on to beat
Rockhurst University 41 in their penultimate preseason game before falling to their first
defeat in a 21 loss to Creighton University to conclude their preseason.

FIRST TIME ON THE ROADSaturday's game against Tulsa Roughnecks FC is the Swope ParkRangers' firstever road game in club history, having recorded a 21home win over Timbers 2 in the team's inaugural game last weekend.Including the start of the 2016 USL season, MLSowned USL teamsare 154 in their firstever away games. That mark means that half ofthose teams came away with one or three points in their first roadouting, although Tulsa inflicted two of the five defeats.
ON THE ROUGHNECKSTulsa Roughnecks FC were a USL expansion team in 2015, compilingan 11116 record to narrowly miss out on a playoff berth by threepoints after finishing in seventh place in the Western Conference with39 points. The Roughnecks opened the 2016 season in positivefashion, earning a 20 home win over Rio Grande Valley FC followingan own goal and a strike from Carlos Martinez while goalkeeper AlexMangels made 12 saves to keep RGV at bay. The club is led by headcoach and USL veteran David Irving, who spent 17 years with theWilmington Hammerheads, posting a 412514 USL record andqualifying to the postseason twice before leaving the club in 2014 andtaking charge of Tulsa ahead of their expansion year.
OLIVEIRA IMPRESSES IN TEAM DEBUTLast Saturday, Kevin Oliveira scored the first goal in club history fromthe spot in the 48th minute, earning him Man of the Match honors. Inaddition, he was recognized by the USL on Tuesday when he wasnamed to the first USL Team of the Week of the season. Oliveira wasa driving force in the midfield for the Rangers, taking three shots in thegame with two landing on frame including his penalty kick while healso showed some steel, committing two fouls and earning the onlySPR yellow card in the game with a 54thminute foul.
SALLOI MAKES INSTANT IMPACTOn Friday, March 25, the Swope Park Rangers announced that threeSporting KC players had been added on loan: Jon Kempin, JimmyMedranda and Daniel Salloi. While Kempin and Medranda eachstarted against Timbers 2 the following day, Sporting KC Homegrownplayer Salloi had to be patient before replacing Tomas Granitto withfive minutes remaining in the contest. It didn't take long for Salloi tomake his mark on the game, with the Hungarian forward linking upwith Mark Anthony Gonzalez early in stoppage time to score whatended up being the gamewinning goal with a clinical finish.
PRESEASON FORM CONTINUES FOR GONZALEZForward Mark Anthony Gonzalez made the most of his minutes inpreseason, scoring a teamhigh three goals while appearing primarilyoff the bench. On Saturday night, he continued the trend ofcontributing off the bench when his outsideofthefoot pass foundDaniel Salloi streaking into the T2 area who finished firsttime for thegamewinning goal.
KELLY SHOWS QUALITYSwope Park Rangers forward Dane Kelly is the USL's alltimeleading scorer with 42 goals, and on Saturday night he showed thequalities that has made him one of the most feared striker in theleague. Kelly took a teamhigh four shots, forcing the Timbers 2goalkeeper into two saves while his other two efforts narrowly missedthe target. Early in the second half, Kelly capped his performancewhen he was fouled for the penalty that Kevin Oliveira converted forthe club's firstever goal.
U.S. RESIDENCY TEAMMATESTwo members of the Swope Park Rangers will take on an old friendon Saturday night, with Jon Kempin and Alex Molano facing Tulsa'sCarlos Martinez. The three players spent time in the U.S. SoccerUnder17 Residency Program together in 2008 and 2009. Kempinstarted the Rangers season opener last weekend while Molano wasnot in the 18man squad. Tulsa's Martinez scored a spectacular halfvolley just 12 seconds into the second half of their game against RioGrande Valley FC, a feat that earned him a spot on the USL Team ofthe Week.
ACADEMY REUNIONSwope Park Rangers goalkeeper Jon Kempin will see anotherfamiliar face on Saturday in Ray Lee, who recently signed for TulsaRoughnecks FC. Kempin and Lee both came through the SportingKC Academy and were teammates until Kempin was signed as aHomegrown player in 2010. Lee, a Kansas City, Mo. native, wasselected by the Philadelphia Union in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft andmade one appearance for the club, coming as a substitute in a 32defeat against his hometown team at Children's Mercy Park on April5, 2015.
LUBIN RETURNS TO FORMER CLUBSaturday's game between the Swope Park Rangers and TulsaRoughnecks FC will mark the first time Rangers goalkeeper ZacLubin returns to the club where he spent the 2015 USL season.Lubin started the first 15 games as club captain in the Roughnecks'inaugural season, posting two shutouts and recording a leaguehigh4.87 saves per game on his way to a 483 record.
YOUTHFUL SQUADThe average age of the Swope Park Rangers squad is 22.3, which isthe seventh lowest in the 29team league. The roster includes sixteenagers in Ezra Armstrong (17), Will Little (17), Nansel Selbol (18),Steven Tekesky (18), Kevin Oliveira (19) and Daniel Salloi (19), whilethe oldest players on the squad are Zac Lubin and Tommy Meyer,both 26. The leaguewide average age is 24.3, with FC Montrealboasting the youngest team with a mean of 21.2 while ColoradoSprings Switchbacks FC and the Richmond Kickers are tied for theoldest with 26.5. Saturday's opponents Tulsa Roughnecks FC are15th in the league in terms of lowest average age with 25.1, though

they are the third youngest team that isn't owned by a MLS side. Theyoungest 12 teams are all either owned or operated by a MLS team.
USL EXPANSION SEASONThe 2016 season is the Swope Park Rangers' USL expansion season.For the eight MLSowned USL teams that entered the league prior tothe Rangers, only three qualified for the postseason in their initialattempt. LA Galaxy II made it to the semifinals in 2014 while New YorkRed Bulls II advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals andSeattle Sounders 2 were eliminated in the Western Conference FirstRound in 2015. FC Montreal, Portland Timbers 2, Real Monarchs,Toronto FC II and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 did not qualify for theUSL Playoffs in their inaugural season in 2015.
CANADIAN CONNECTIONThere is a distinct Canadian influence on this Swope Park Rangersteam, with six players and staff connected to our neighbors up north.On the playing side, Amer Didic (Edmonton, Alberta), Mark AnthonyGonzalez (Bolton, Ontario), Johnny Grant (Toronto, Ontario) and TylerPasher (Elmira, Ontario) all hail from Canada, while head coach MarcDos Santos was born in Montreal and began his coaching career withthe Impact in 2007. In addition, goalkeeper coach Alec Dufty spent the2015 season in the USL coaching with Toronto FC II.
POSITIVE PRESEASONDespite being a firstyear team, the Swope Park Rangers hit theground running in their preseason preparations. After only 10 days oftraining, the Rangers opened up their Desert Diamond Cup play inTucson by beating MLS side the Colorado Rapids 31 on Feb. 17 andalso drew 22 with Columbus Crew SC a week later. Overall, theRangers concluded preseason with a 312 record, with their soledefeat coming in their final game against Creighton University.
USL EXPERIENCEOf the 22 players on the Swope Park Rangers current roster, ninehave previously played in the USL. Most notably, Dane Kelly is theUSL's alltime leading scorer with 42 goals since joining theCharleston Battery in 2011. Christian Duke spent the last two seasonswith OKC Energy FC, helping the side to a playoff berth in 2015 withthe help of Jacob VanCompernolle. Tommy Meyer was minutes fromclaiming the 2015 USL Championship as his LA Galaxy II side fell tothe Rochester Rhinos in extra time. Kris Tyrpak spent the 2015season with the Austin Aztex, scoring nine goals for his hometownclub. Jon Kempin (Orlando City SC, OKC Energy FC) spent time onloan at Sporting KC's former affiliates. Johnny Grant (FC Montreal),Zac Lubin (Tulsa Roughnecks FC) and Tyler Pasher (PittsburghRiverhounds) also have USL experience.
STRAIGHT OUTTA MLS
While there is a significant amount of USL knowhow in the squad,two players also boast MLS experience in Tommy Meyer and KrisTyrpak. Meyer was drafted in the first round of the 2012 MLSSuperDraft by the LA Galaxy and went on to make 57 appearancesin all competitions for the club, winning MLS Cup in 2012 and 2014along the way. Tyrpak was drafted by Chivas USA in the 2014 MLSSuperDraft, tallying one goal against the Colorado Rapids and oneassist against FC Dallas before the club folded at the end of thatseason. Two further players were also signed by MLS teams butdid not make an appearance, with Oumar Ballo drafted by theHouston Dynamo in 2015 and Christian Duke spending the 2013and 2014 seasons with Sporting KC.
INTERNATIONAL FLAVORThere are eight members of the Swope Park Rangers that wereborn outside of the U.S. and Canada. Oumar Ballo (Mali), AmerDidic (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Tomas Granitto (El Salvador), DaneKelly (Jamaica), Kevin Oliveira (Cape Verde), Daniel Salloi(Hungary) Nansel Selbol (Nigeria) and Ualefi (Brazil) were all bornoutside of North America and through different channels found theirway to the Rangers. Each USL team is permitted seven ForeignPlayers on their roster, though the Rangers only occupy five withOumar Ballo, Amer Didic and Tomas Granitto qualifying asdomestic players.
POTENT STRIKEFORCEOn Dec. 16, the Swope Park Rangers announced the signings ofDane Kelly and Kris Tyrpak, who combined for 20 goals in the USLregular season in 2015. Kelly is the USL's alltime leading scorerwith 42 goals with the Charelston Battery, while Kris Tyrpak hasscored goals in MLS, NASL, USL and USL PDL. In all competitionslast season, Kelly (12) and Tyrpak (11) had 23 goals between them.
ACADEMY TIESOn March 10, the Swope Park Rangers announced the signings ofEzra Armstrong, Will Little and Steven Tekesky to Academycontracts ahead of the 2016 USL season. All three players joinedthe Rangers directly from the Sporting KC Academy after spendinga large portion of preseason with the team. Armstrong and Littleboth relocated to Kansas City within the last few years fromTennessee to join the Sporting KC Academy, while Tekesky is aRaymore, Mo. native. Armstrong comes from a family withpedigree, with his father, Desmond Armstrong, a National Hall ofFamer.

CAPTAIN DUKEOn Wednesday, March 23, the Swope Park Rangers' firsteversigning Christian Duke was named captain of the club ahead of theseason opener. Duke is an Overland Park, Kan. native that camethrough Sporting KC's Academy before enjoying a fouryear collegecareer at the University of San Diego. He was selected by SportingKC in the 2013 Supplemental Draft but did not make an appearance,instead spending time on loan at OKC Energy FC before joining theclub permanently in 2015.
LOCAL PRESENCE IN THE SQUADWhile there are three players on the Swope Park Rangers rosterwho are directly from the Kansas City area, five more have
connections to the city. Christian Duke (Overland Park, Kan.), JonKempin (Leawood, Kan.) and Steven Tekesky (Raymore, Mo.) wereall raised in the region, while Ezra Armstrong, Will Little, Daniel Salloiand Nansel Selbol all entered the club through the Sporting KCAcademy despite not being natives of the area. In addition, centerback Tommy Meyer is from St. Louis, Mo. and returns to his homestate after spending eight years away.
CONNECTED TO SWOPE PARKThe team name, "Swope Park Rangers", is a moniker that stemsfrom the days of the old MLS Reserve League. Sporting KansasCity's reserve side would play games at Swope Soccer Village atSwope Park, and fans who followed the side coined the nameSwope Park Rangers in reference to the team. The name was neverused through official club channels until October 22, 2015, whenSporting Club introduced the Swope Park Rangers as the club's newUSL side. The club will play the majority of it's home games atChildren's Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village.

Marc Dos Santos is entering his 10th year of coaching in 2016, having most recently taken Ottawa Fury FC to the 2015
NASL Soccer Bowl, culminating in being named 2015 NASL Coach of the Year. Dos Santos began his career with the
Montreal Impact's reserve team, TroisRivieres Attak FC of the Canadian Soccer League in 2007. After several titles,
Dos Santos became the Impact head coach in 2009 and led Montreal to CONCACAF Champions League qualification
and a USL First Division title before transitioning to USSF Division 2 in 2010 and the NASL the following year. In 2012,
Dos Santos moved to Brazil to focus on youth development with FC Primeira Camisa U20s and SE Palmeiras U15s,
winning a Copa do Brasil U15 championship with the latter. Dos Santos returned to Canada in 2013 to take charge of
the Ottawa Fury ahead of their NASL expansion season.
Nikola Popovic has extensive experience coaching in Europe, having most recently been an assistant coach at Benfica
B. A dual citizen of Portugal and Serbia who was born in Belgrade, Popovic has coached in Portugal with CD Olivais e
Moscavide (200507), Varzim SC (200710), Sertanese FC (201314) and Benfica B (201516). He also coached in
Bulgaria with FC Vihren Sandanski (2007) and Chernomorets Burgas (201011). Popovic made further stops with the
Cape Verde National Team (2010), Spanish side AD Ceuta (2010), Qatari sides Al Dahfra (201112) and Aspire Academy
(2014). Popovic holds a UEFA Pro coaching license the highest UEFA license available and also spent time studying
at Inter Milan, Portugal Under21s and Serbia & Montenegro Under21s.
Alec Dufty spent the 2015 season in the USL with Toronto FC II. While with the club, the TFC II goalkeeping corps
finished third in the USL with 125 saves and starting goalkeeper Quillan Roberts placed second in the league in save
percentage (.766) and third in saves per game (4.80). Dufty had previously coached collegiately at Florida Gulf Coast
University and the University of Illinois at Chicago. A former MLS player, Dufty began his career with the New York Red
Bulls in 2009 before joining the MLS reserve goalkeeper pool. In 2010, Dufty joined USSF D2 Pro League side AC St.
Louis, before returning to MLS with the Chicago Fire later that same year. He announced his retirement and focused on
coaching at the conclusion of the 2011 season.

JOSH MCALLISTERFitness CoachJosh McAllister joined the Sporting KC organization in early 2015 as the Academy fitness coach, and has now
transitioned into a new role with the Swope Park Rangers. While with the Academy, McAllister assisted Mateus Manoel
with the first team, but his primary focus was developing fitness regimens and strength programs for each Academy age
group. A Marshalltown, Iowa native, McAllister graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2008 and coached
with Heartland Soccer Club, West Des Moines Soccer Club, Sporting Iowa before completing a yearlong internship
with the Portland Timbers in 2014. Immediately prior to joining Sporting KC, McAllister enjoyed a successful spell as an
assistant coach for the Drake University Men's Soccer Team.
