Patrick Marleau scored his third goal of the playoffs while Logan Couture recorded his seventh pointof the series to push Nashville to the brink of elimination. WCSR GAME 4 – 5/5/16 – SJS 3 at NSH 4…In a triple OT thriller, San Jose was on the brink of taking a commanding series lead withgoals coming from Brent Burns (2), and Joonas Donskoi. But James Neal tied it up with just under five minutes to go while MikeFischer scored 11 minutes into triple OT to give Nashville a 4-3 win, tying the series at 2 apiece. WCSR GAME 3 – 5/3/16 – SJS 1 at NSH 4…Patrick Marleau scored on an outstanding individual with assists coming from TomasHertl and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. Unfortunately, that was not enough as the Predators scored four unanswered goals, including two onthe power-play, in a 4-1 Sharks loss in Nashville.
WCSR GAME 2 – 5/1/16 – SJS 3 vs. NSH 2…Logan Couture scored the game’s opening goal and added an assist, Joe Pavelskirecorded a goal and two assists and Joe Thornton ended up with the game-winner (to go along with an assist) in the Sharks 3-2victory over the Predators to take a 2-0 series lead. Matt Nieto and Brent Burns also picked up one assist each in the win. WCSR GAME 1 – 4/29/16 – SJS 5 vs. NSH 2…Nashville struck first on the power play, but the Sharks exploded for five goals in thethird period to take a 1-0 series lead. Tomas Hertl tied the game on the power play before Joel Ward scored a highlight reel goal togive San Jose the lead. Logan Couture scored twice, including the game-winner, and Tommy Wingels added an empty-netter. FIRST ROUND RECAPSWCFR GAME 5 – 4/22/16 – SJS 6 at LAK 3…Three Sharks scored their first career playoff goals (Joonas Donskoi, Chris Tierneyand Melker Karlsson) as the Sharks ousted the Kings in five games. Inaddition, the Sharks 10 wins this postseason ties a franchise record, set back in the 2004 playoffs. Finally, Game 3 marked the first timein Sharks franchise history that a Sharks goaltender recorded back-to-back shutouts in the playoffs. THE FINAL STRAW…The Sharks have earned a spot in the conference finals for the third time in the last seven seasons (since 2009-10), tied for the second-most appearances in that span (tied with Los Angeles, Tampa Bay and the NY Rangers). Only Chicago (fourtimes) has reached the conference finals more times than San Jose since 2010.
ROUNDERS…Since General Manager Doug Wilson took over prior to the 2003-04 season, only the Detroit Red Wings 24 playoffseries surpass the Sharks total of 23 (including this Western Conference Final vs. St. Louis). San Jose and Detroit are the only twoteams in the NHL to have made the playoffs 11 times in the last 12 seasons. CALIFORNIA KNOWS HOW TO PARTY…This marks the seventh consecutive season in which a California-based NHL franchise hasadvanced to the Western Conference Final, with San Jose having done so three of those instances. Moreover, a California team hasappeared in the conference finals in 11 of the last 13 playoffs, with the Sharks representing four of those times. Hitchcock was named the 24th head coach in Blues history on Nov. 7, 2011, and has led the club to four straight postseason appearances, andCentral Division Titles in 2011-12 and 2014-15. In 2011-12, he led the Blues to the their second best season ever and their first division titlesince 2000 en route to becoming the NHL's 2012 Jack Adams Award winner, the fourth coach in Blues history to receive the honor. Hitchcockhas also coached in Dallas, Philadelphia and Columbus. He currently ranks 3rd among active coaches in games behind the bench and 2nd inall-time wins. On Mar. 12, 2015, he became the 4th coach in NHL history to earn 700 wins.
