We Extend Our Sympathies

The staff and members of the First Baptist family wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Wilma Gentry and her family as they mourn the passing and homegoing of her husband, Ray Gentry.

Memorial Gifts During the month of December, donations were made to the church: In memory of Mariee Barnes by Lester & Carol Barnes, Luke & Carol Weaver, William & Ann Malone, Mary Jo

Leverette, Bill & Florene Bobo, Rod & Betty Shearouse, Andy & Jeannie Bunn, the Jolly Elders, and the Barnes family;

In memory of Laurenze Pittman by Adriel & Sherri Fasci; In memory of Alfred Otis Blissit & Annie Mae Price Blissit by James & Marianne Blissit; In memory of Martha Maloch by Adriel & Sherri Fasci; In memory of William Hudson (Vicki Jennings’ brother) by the Emmanuel Sunday School class; In memory of Opal White by Adriel & Sherri Fasci; and In honor of Rod Shearouse by the Agape I Sunday School class in recognition of his birthday.

2014 will prove to be a great year. We know what the year will hold – wonderful op-portunities to demonstrate our faith and obedience to our Lord! We will have celebra-tions and we will have times of grieving. We will pray and then we will work. We will grow in our faith in the proportion that our faith will be tried and our response to the test reflects trust. We will falter in our walk (note- this should be unexpected and un-excused) but we will seek His forgiveness and move forward. We will be surprised and maybe even shocked by the events that happen to us, around us, and within us.

We will encourage others, embrace others, wipe the tears of others as we cry with them, to the extent that we submit to the Holy Spirit and subsequently bear the fruit of the Spirit. We will rise to the challenges of the new day because we serve a God who is timeless! We will not fight for victory but from victory as Christ has already won the battle. When we are weak, and we ARE weak, He will demonstrate His strength through us as we depend on Him. We will rally together under the banner of Christ. We will set aside our preferences for the greater cause of Christ. We will sacrifice with joy because He gave His all. We will praise Him and honor Him as our King, our Lord, and our God! We will because He is!! Pastor Craig

On the evening of December 5th the weather

threatened to be “frightful”, thankfully it was not. So The Jolly Elders climbed aboard Santa’s sleigh, rather a chartered bus, for an evening of good food at the Country Kitchen and a touch of the Christmas season by driving through The Rock outside Barnesville. Then on December 12

th

we completed 2013 with a delicious luncheon pre-pared by Belinda and her Culinary Crew.

We expect 2014 to be just as fun filled. Some of our plans include informational luncheons on senior issues, trips to Ellis Brothers Pecans, Bay Breeze, Bullock House in Warm Springs, The Varsity followed by a tour of historic Oak-land Cemetery, Dickey Peach Farms, Shoney’s in Forsyth, and day trips to Blue Ridge and Dah-lonega. We appreciate all who are involved in this ministry and can always make room for more. Consider making 2014 the year you get involved in The Jolly Elders.

Have you considered changes or goals you would like to make in 2014? This year we are con-tinuing with our Scripture Mem-ory Calendar. We are going to be more intentional with our preschoolers about memorizing their verses in Preschool Wor-ship and with the Kids in Kids Worship. If you do not already have a SM Calendar, they are available at the Preschool Desk. At the desk you will also find the Parenting Christian Kids News-letter. It is filled with parenting articles, current trends, and a calendar. In the month of January we are going to kick off with the spirit of giving. We will be having a contest to help the Food Pantry, so stay tuned for more. We are also going to have REEL Kids: New Christians/Kids Asking Questions class and Bible Skills class signups for kids. Have you started thinking about

Summer Camp? I am very ex-

cited about camp and hope your

child will be participating! Bro-

chures will be coming out this

month with more information!

Excitement to start 2014

Two exciting things will kick off our New Year: First, beginning on Wednesday, January 8th, you will have the opportunity to be in a small group study of Share Jesus Without Fear. I am really ex-cited about how this is going to impact your life…and the lives of EVERYONE you come in contact with. This may be the simplest plan for sharing your faith that I have ever used. This plan fo-cuses on letting the Scripture speak for itself. It does use Scripture but…..you won’t need to memorize it. The plan uses some very conver-sational questions that I believe will help each of us as we SHARE JESUS in 2014. I hope you will plan to be part of one of these classes. Second, we will kick off a new Bible study theme on January 19th. This next study will be, “Real Questions People Ask.” Questions like: how can I be sure God Exists? why should I trust the Bible? and if God is good, why is there suffering? If you are not in a small group for Sunday morning Bible study, you are missing one of the best hours of the week. If you get in touch with me….I can help you get in a group before this study begins. Call me at 770-957-9715 or email me at: [email protected]

“Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, The God who is our salvation.” This truth from Psalm 68 is a great thought to take into the New Year. God is worthy of our praise, so let’s give it to Him. Every day of 2014 give Him praise. Remember who holds you in the palm of His hand. God is there to bear your bur-

dens. He is there every second of every day. He has promised to bear our burdens and give us grace, so let’s give those burdens to Him. It is God who is our salvation. Not something or someone, but God and God alone. Let these truths guide us through 2014. On Sunday, January 26 we will be having our first combined

service. This is going to be a great time of worship with eve-rybody in the same service at 9:45. In this service we will have the Praise Team and Choir and the band and special music, so you want to make sure you come and bring someone with you! If you usu-ally go to Sunday School at 9:45, then your class will meet

at 11:00. If you usually go to Sunday School at 8:30, then nothing will change for you ex-cept you will get to worship with the second service folks. This is going to be a great time of worship and fellowship.

Men, please join us in attending the annual Johnny Hunt Men’s Conference at FBC Woodstock on January 31st and February 1st. The cost will be $100 per person and will include transportation, lodging, dinner, and all study ma-terials. Sign up in the foyer after the service this Sunday morning. We will have a great time! Invite another man!
