The students do the entire reception for the first 90minutes, provid-ing food and service. The theme this year is Dine like Royalty, with aclassical approach to hors d’oeuvres but with a contemporary twist,McClay said.

A picnic station will feature tuna carpacchio; curry chicken salad;cucumber and watercress sandwiches; and roast beef with horseradishcream.

The appetizer menu includes a raw bar with clams, oysters andshrimp cocktail and king crab legs; torchon of foie gras, with dried figand armagnac jam; steamed cockles and leeks; beef Wellington as acarved item; seafood crème brulee; lobster mousse croquembousche;slow cooked pork belly, with onion and goat cheese tarts; wild salmonand fennel fondue; oxtail stew with tomato chutney.

During Prohibition, booze often en-tered Atlantic City through the AbseconInlet, under thecontrolofNuckyJohnson. With this as a cue — along with the pop-ularity of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” —the Absecon Lighthouse has fashioned itsannual murder-mystery play aroundJohnson and his escapades to keep the li-quor flowing in the resort.

“Lighthouse Empire – The Rum Run-ners” is slated forMarch 24, and includesa climb to the top of the historic light-house, pizza from Tony Baloney’s and“smuggled” wine and beer.

As with murder mysteries, someonegets killed in this tale about a salty light-house keeper and the life and death mea-sures needed to insure Nucky’s speak-easys remain open.

The purpose of the performance is forthe audience to take the clues in the play

to deduce the murderer. The one who fin-gers the perpetrator gets a reward fromthe lighthouse gift shop.

“Clues point to everybody,” said Ste-phanie Carr, director of educational pro-grams at the lighthouse

The lighthouse has done thesemyster-ies for a number of years and this is thesecond year for the “BoardwalkEmpire”-themed play.

Each showhas four actswith breaks inbetween, with the entire evening lastingalmost three hours, Carr said. During thebreaks, visitors can enjoy food andbever-ages. Between acts 3 and 4, guests canclimb the 228 steps in the lighthouse tow-er.

Scott Henry has had a longtime rela-tionship with the Dougherty family, own-ers of Dock’s Oyster House and the Knife& Fork. The Northfield native worked hisway up the ladder at the venerable Knife& Fork, but three weeks ago, got promot-ed to take over as chef at Harry’s OysterBar and Seafood, the Dougherty’s restau-rant at Bally’s Atlantic City.

“WeknewScottwould be a great fit forHarry’s because we had worked closelywith him at Knife & Fork and knew first-hand that he was a talented chef,” saidMaureenC. Shay, one of the owners of thethree restaurants. “As the sous chef atKnife & Fork, Scott was second in com-mand in the kitchen andwas the person incharge whenever the chef was not there.Fromthat role, wealsoknewScottwas or-ganized and a goodmanager, two very im-portant skills to keep a busy kitchen run-ning efficiently.”

Henry’s first order of business washandling the RestaurantWeek crowd, butwith that out of the way, he will concen-trate on the evolving menu at Harry’s.

“When summer gets closer I think I’dlike to get more items rotating in the me-nu,” he said.

As one of Henry’s initial focuses, he’llincrease thenumberof oyster-baseddish-es. “There are great oysters from all overwe can use,” he said.

“I’ll be playing with themenu as far asfish andoystersgo,”Henry said. “I’malsolooking at different soups. And oysterstew. We get a big request for oyster stewfrom feedback to bartenders and serv-ers.”

Henry will incorporate daily specialsas a way to gauge what works on the me-nu. The specials will stick mostly to sea-food, but coming fromtheKnife&Fork—a steak and seafood house — look forsteaks and chops specials as well.

With Dock’s and Knife & Fork in thecompany,Henry has a lot of support fromtwo of the oldest dining establishments inthe city. “I work with chef Stephan John-son at Dock’s trying to make our menumore consistent. I work with them on adaily basis.”

The newHarry’s chef is also tinkeringwith the dessert menu. With the kitchenprep area not very large,Henry is limitedinwhat he can do. So the larger kitchen atDock’s will help supply desserts.

Being in a casino setting affects thetype of crowds, Henry found out. “It’s amore diverse group of people. The casinohelps that,” he said.

Another major difference betweenHarry’s and its company cousins is thatthe restaurant is open for more than din-ner. Harry’s serves lunch, too.

“And we’re planning on opening forbreakfast in the summer. Maybe someomelets with shrimp. Something more onthe lighter side. We might even set up inthe courtyard area. We’ll have three peri-ods of service. It’s a lot of work. Butshould be fun,” Henry said.

Two things you ought to know aboutRick Springfield. 1) He was Dr. NoahDrake on “General Hospital” on and offfrom the early 1980s to 2008. 2) In theearly 1980s, he recorded the monster hit“Jessie’s Girl.”

Springfield is gone from “GeneralHospital,” but his musical legacy lives onin the guise of Port Chuck, four actorsfrom the show who have a side gig as arock band.

And yes, “Jessie’s Girl” is often on theset list, so expect to hear it at Bally’s At-lantic City on March 24.

The band, whose namecomes from thefictitious “General Hospital” WesternNewYork town Port Charles, formed twoyears ago. The quartet includes: ScottReeves, who plays Dr. Steve Webber;SteveBurton, known to soap fansasJasonQuartermaine and Jason Morgan; Bran-don Barash, who portrays Johnny Zacha-ra; and Bradford Anderson, the DamienSpinelli character.

Reeves left the soaps in 2001 to pursueamusic career inNashville. On his returnto “General Hospital” years later, hehooked up with best friend Burton.

“I said let’s put something together,”Reeves said. “It’s another facet ofwhoweare. Even though all of us are so different, somehow it worked.”

To Reeves’ surprise, Port Chuck hastaken on a life of its own, including the re-lease of an album with a second on the

way.“This has become bigger than we ever

anticipated. It just started out as a funidea, a onetime thing to fans. But it was sosuccessful we needed to think about thismore as a long-term pursuit.”

The band’s first album consisted of astring of covers from the 1980s. The nextalbum will feature some original songs,Reeves said.

“Originally we intended to be an ’80scover band. The individual songs repre-sent who we are, our favorite artists. Butfans who come to see us, they get a reallydiverse mix of music,” he said .

Don’t look for the original material atBally’s. Those songs will appear on thetour that starts in April.

“Fans get taken on an emotional roller-coaster ride back to a retrospective lookat their lives. They relive tunes they grewup with. A couple songs we really makeour own,” Reeves said.

When you think of places to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the Gypsy Bar atBorgata Hotel Casino & Spa might not be the first name on the list. After all, this eclectic watering hole is known for its tequilas.

But you might be wrong.“With all the ingredients for unpredictable, laid-back fun where bartend-

ers are part of the show and partygoers leave their inhibitions at the door, what better place to celebrate St. Patty’s than Gypsy Bar,” said Gregg Coyle, director of nightlife for Borgata. “With the holiday falling on a Saturday thisyear, guests have the luxury of hanging out with us all day.
