Gandhi Jayanti - Green Day 2K18 The college celebrated 150 th Gandhi Jayan as Green Day 2K18 on 4 th October, 2018. The Club BeFore, NCC unit and all the departments joined hands to organize a mass cleaning session in the college premises. The NCC offered floral tribute to Gandhiji in the college Gandhi square. The programme was supported by ‘the love plasc programme’ of Mathrubhumi SEED and ITC Pvt.Ltd. The segregated plasc and paper materials were sold through the ‘wow project’ of ITC. A Tricolor waste management system was installed in the college. Three waste bins (red, yellow & green in colour) have been placed at various corners of the college to collect plasc, paper and food watse seperately. Recognition from Mathrubhumi Club B4 has been recognized by Mathrubhumi SEED (Student Empowerment for Environmental Development) in the college category, for its best performance in promong green iniave in and outside the campus. The award funcon was held at Bhavans Vidhya Mandir, Elamakkara on 21 st November, 2018.

Gandhi Jayanti - Green Day 2K18

The college celebrated 150th Gandhi Jayanti as Green Day 2K18 on 4th October, 2018. The Club BeFore, NCC unit and all the departments joined hands to organize a mass cleaning session in the college premises. The NCC offered floral tribute to Gandhiji in the college Gandhi square. The programme was supported by ‘the love plastic programme’ of Mathrubhumi SEED and ITC Pvt.Ltd. The segregated plastic and paper materials were sold through the ‘wow project’ of ITC. Recital of rosary, honouring Mother Mary was conducted in our college chapel. Each department led the solemn prayers each day. On the last day a solemn procession was organized to the grotto.

Blood Donation Camp

Survey conducted by the trainees of Club BeFORE to identify loss incurred in the shops in Vadakkekara Panchayath in the background of the flood menace.

An awareness class was conducted on the use and misuse of internet, child sexual abuse and POCSO Act at Kunjithai Anganavadi, Vadakkekara on 24th November, 2018.

Department Activities

MSWWorld Mental Health Day

The students of the department in association with Kusumagiri Mental Health Centre organized an awareness programme on the theme ‘psychological problems among youth.’ Students performed street play and flash mob at Kakkanad open stage.

Workshop on Chekutty Doll Making

The department conducted workshop on making chekutty dolls out of handloom cloth ravaged by the flood. The event was hosted in association with Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad for the cause of handloom cottage industries reconstruction.

Children’s Day

Bharata Mata School of Social Work organised awareness programme in collaboration with the Railway Childline. Students performed flash mob in the South railway station.

National Seminar

Two-day National Conference titled “Disaster Management: Inter Sectoral Interventions from Risk Reduction to Recovery” held on 1st & 2nd November, 2018.

Read n’ Recuperate

The Dept of English donated a book rack and books to the Primary Health Centre, Kalamassery. This initiative of the department is to provide healing through books to the mothers and children waiting in pediatric OPs and pediatric wards in primary health centres.

Environmental Sustainability

Ms Tara and Ms Simi Stephen of Rotary Club Cochin North delivered a talk on ‘Environmental Sustainability’ on 16/10/2018. They sensitized a gathering of around hundred students towards the immediacy of actions to be taken to recycle plastic bottles sensibly. The department responded positively to this cause by collaborating with # I Challenge Plastic Bottles, initiated by Rev. Fr. Davis Chirammel, Kidney Foundation of India.

Literature, Constitution and Sexual Orientation

The department organized a talk on ‘Literature Constitution and Sexual Orientation: An Analysis on the Implications of the Section 377 Verdict’ on 15 October, 2018. Mr Jijo Kuriakose, founder of Queerala, one of the key organizations for LGBTIQ rights laid emphasis on the depiction of alternate sexualities in literature and on the implications of the landmark SC 377 verdict. It was followed by a talk titled, ‘Negotiating Gender and Sexual Binaries: A Queer Reading of Mainstream Theories’ by Ms Rahana Mansoor, research scholar, Mar Thoma College, Thiruvalla.

# I Challenge Plastic Campaign (5 .11.2018)

As a part of plastic bottle challenge, the students of the department inspired the local community and the neighbouring institutions to collect maximum number of bottles which could be recycled to eradicate the plastic menace.

Workshop on The Mechanics of Academic Writing (02/11/2018)

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr.Kishore Ram, Department of English, MMNSS College, Kottiyam. The session was an insight into various literary theories and its application to literary texts. Dr. Laly Mathew, the former Vice Principal and HoD of English, Bharata Mata College, Thrikkakara familiarized the students about the nuances of writing an ideal PG project.

Chrysalis Outreach

Chrysalis’19 endorses the theme ‘Ashes to Diamonds’ by taking up the ‘plastic bottle challenge’. The challenge is taken up in association with # I Challenge Plastic Bottle movement initiated by Fr. Davis Chirammel Foundation and the Rotary Club of Cochin North. The proceeds of this challenge is to be used to help families affected by the recent flood, by providing them a means to earn their livelihood.

An Inter School Quiz Competition was conducted for Higher Secondary Students on ‘Wildlife and Nature’ in connection with the Wildlife Week Celebrations 2018. Alan Reji and Sanjay Krishna of St. Mary’s HSS, Thalacode, Mulamthuruthy won the First prize. St. Mary’s Convent HSS Ernakulam and Cardinal HSS, Thrikkakara won the II and the III prizes respectively.

Dr. K S. Rishad, Unibiosys Biotech Research Labs, Kalamassery (alumnus of BMC) delivered a talk on ‘Basic Techniques in Microbiology and Project Writing,’ on 1st November, 2018. He also held an introductory class on Microbiology to the III DC Zoology students.

An outreach was organised by the M.Com students on October 10th and 11th at Aanandabhavan, a home for street children, Mangalassery. 3 teachers accompanied the students in the programme which included manual labour, assisting the children in daily studies and doing the home-chores.

Dr.Manjula R Iyer, the former HoD Commerce (SF) inaugurated the alumni meet and book bank system of the department of TT on 27th October, 2018.

Activity based orientation class conducted for the students of BBA on the topic ‘The Future of BBA,’ under the guidance of TCS trainer Mr.Pushparaj on 15th November, 2018.
