French Gardens.

A French garden is a garden which has an aesthetic and symbolic ambition .It corrects nature to impose a symmetry.

It expresses the desire to exalt the triumph of the order on the disorder. It culminates in the XVII th century with the creation the Versailles gardens for Louis XIV by André le Notre , soon imitated all over Europe.

Composition: Topiary and plant architecture:

On French soil, the gardens were rather huge and flattened all around the house.

Lawn, ponds, fountains and statues took their place, with the influence English, Italian and French.

Having studied painting and architecture, Le Nôtre organized the gardens creating a central axis and then oblique and perpendicular axis.

Central perspective should give the impression that the man is in complete control of nature.

Lawns and embroidery

The lawns developed in France in the late 16th century imitate the drawings and the rich embroidery on fabrics and lace. Lines are made of boxwood or flowers on the same varieties, placed on a bottom of sand or gravel.
