Gas Outlets/Puritan-Bennett/Beacon Medical
Accessories shall be of a modular designallowing them to be ganged with a BeaconMedical (Puritan-Bennett) manufactured medicalgas outlets on the job site to create a console-like appearance. Each accessory shall consistof a rough-in and finish assembly. All ElectricalAccessories utilize UL/CSA recognized hospitalgrade receptacles. The rough-in for electricaldevices shall include a standard electrical boxfor electrical connections. Gauges shall have apressure range of 0-100 psi for Oxygen, NitrousOxide, Medical air, and Carbon Dioxide; 0-300psi for Nitrogen and 0-30” Hg for Vacuum andEvacuation. Gas specificity shall be maintainedby positive pin indexing between rough-in andfinish assembly. A machined brass outlet blockshall be permanently attached to the mountingplate in such a manner so as to permit the 7-inch long, 3/8” O.D. type K copper inlet tube tobe swiveled 360° for attachment to the pipingsystem. A secondary valve shall be installed inthe outlet block assembly for pressure testingand to prevent gas flow when the gauge isremoved.
Note: Electrical Accessories furnished with5/8” raised device cover. For wall thicknessother than 5/8” customer must furnishcorrect size cover.

Ohmeda (Ohio Medical) Compatible Quick Connect Medical Gas outlets shallbe gas specific for the services indicated and accept only correspondingOhmeda (Ohio Medical) Quick Connect adapters. The Outlets shall be ULlisted, CSA approved, and meet NFPA 99 Standards (formally NFPA 56-F). Alloutlets shall be tested and cleaned for oxygen service prior to shipping. Acomplete outlet shall consist of a gas specific finishing assembly to beinstalled after walls are finished and a matching gas specific finishingassembly to be installed after walls are finished.
The rough-in assembly shall be of modular design and include a gas specific16 ga. steel mounting plate designed to permit on-site ganging of multipleoutlets, in any order, on any order, on 5 inch centerline spacing. A machinedbrass outlet block shall be permanently attached to the mounting plate insuch a manner so as to permit the 7 inch long, 3/8” O.D. type K copper inlettube to be swiveled 360o for attachment to the piping system. A secondaryvalve shall be installed in the outlet block assembly for pressure testing andto prevent gas flow when the latch/valve assembly is removed for service. A1/2” high metal flange around the outlet block seal opening shall provide aplaster barrier. Gas service identification shall be affixed to the inlet tube andthe face of the mounting plate. A temporary, transparent cover shall beprovided to keep debris out of the outlet during installation while permittinglabels to be viewed for outlet service identity.
The latch/valve assembly shall include a double seal primary valve and begas specific for the labeled service and accept only corresponding Ohmeda(Ohio Medical) Compatible hose and apparatus adapters. The latch/valveassembly shall be indexed to the corresponding rough-in assembly to avoidaccidental cross-fitting and shall telescope up to 3/4” to allow for variation infinished wall thickness from 1/2” to 1-1/4”. A metal trim plate with permanent,color coded marking of service identification shall be included as part of thelatch/valve assembly.
A die cast, chrome plated coverplate shall be provided to trim each outlet andto fill the space between adjacent outlets. Coverplate design shall allow latchvalves to be individually removed for servicing.

DescriptionThe Oxequip® Med*Star® Series outlet stations provide convenient access to medicalgases in patient care locations. They are fully compatible with Med*Star and ’07 Seriesadapters.
The outlets can be grouped together in any order desired by the facility. Outlets arespaced 5" (12.7 cm) center to center. Outlet finish plates and rough-in plates are pinindexed using steel pins for positive cross-connection prevention. Valve bodies areseparate from the finish plate, allowing easy testing for leaks and cross connection, andcontain a self-sealing poppet. Valve bodies are field adjustable to compensate for variations in plaster thickness of 12.7 mm (1/2") to19 mm (3/4").
The 152.5 mm (6") Type K copper inlet tube has a 9.5 mm (3/8") ID (12.7 mm (1/2") OD) connection, and can rotate 360 degrees toaccommodate any field piping arrangement. The primary gas check can be serviced without shutting off the gas supply.
The cam plate contains a positive latching mechanism to retain the adapter in the outlet. The adapter is removed by operating therelease mechanism which is integral to the Med*Star adapter (’07 Series adapters use the twist mechanism).

Rough-in plates for the outlets are zinc plated steel for corrosion resistance and fire safety. Finishplates are die-cast zinc, chrome-plated with brushed stainless inserts for appearance. Gas identification is provided by apolycarbonate plastic insert, color-coded by gas service.
The cam plate/tumbler assembly is color-coded and labeled for the gas service. Release is easily accomplished with one hand usingthe adapter release mechanism. The primary valve poppet provides a dust proof seal. Vacuum outlets may be used with or withoutslide brackets for vacuum collection bottles of up to 2 liters (1/2 gallon) capacity (where slides are used, provide one per vacuumoutlet).

DescriptionThe Oxequip Diameter Index Safety System (DISS) Series outlet stations provideconvenient access to medical gases in patient care locations. They are fully compatiblewith DISS style diameter indexed threaded adapters.
The outlets can be grouped together in any order desired by the facility. Outlets arespaced 5" (12.7 cm) center to center. Outlet finish plates and rough-in plates are pinindexed using steel pins for positive cross-connection prevention. The chrome-platedbrass valve bodies contain a self-sealing poppet, and are separate from thefinish plate, allowing easy testing for leaks and cross connection. Valve bodies are fieldadjustable to compensate for variations in plaster thickness of 12.7 mm (1/2") to 19 mm (3/4").
The 152.5 mm (6") Type K copper inlet tube has a 9.5 mm (3/8") ID (12.7 mm (1/2") OD) connection, and can rotate 360 degrees toaccommodate any field piping arrangement. The primary gas check can be serviced without shutting off the gas supply.

Specifications
The medical gas wall outlet shall be Frontal D.I.S.S.Medical Gas Outlets. The outlets shall incorporatefull faceplate sized color coding.
The outlets shall be capable of supporting dispensing equipment without the use of slidebrackets.
The medical gas outlets shall be designed so thatonce installed, routine service of both the primaryand secondary check valves can be accomplishedwithout removing the nameplate or gas specificpositions. The primary check valve shall be unitizedand of the cartridge type and the primary check canbe removed for service without shutting off the gas.
The outlet name plate shall be permanently color coded andsealed behind a lexan protective cover. To prevent leakswithin the finished wall, there shall be no rubber o-rings for agas seal behind the faceplate. The name of the gas serviceshall be permanently embossed on the outlet sub-mountingplate and the chrome plated brass outlet body.
Medical gas outlets shall be cleaned for oxygen service inaccordance with the current Compressed Gas Association(CGA) Pamphlet G-4.1, capped and placed in a protectivecontainer for shipment.
The outlets shall be installed in strict accordance withmanufacturer’s instructions, and tested before use inconformance with local and federal codes.

When ordering multiple service Modernization Kits adetermination of the distance between gas service isimportant. The center-to-center measurement represents thedistance between vertical, imaginary line extendingthrough the center of the poppet or gas opening.The distance between gas service is often referred to asa “Blank.” The center-to-center measurement betweenoxygen and vacuum, for example, on an outlet with no“BLANKS” is 1-13/16”. Multiple outlets with one “BLANK”between gas services have a 3-5/8” distance. Outletshaving a 5-7/16” center-to-center measurement wouldhave two “BLANKS” between gas service.NOTE: State gas service reading left to right as you lookat the face plate. In the photo above, the sequence forordering purposes is Oxygen-B-B-Air-B-B-Vac (B=Blank).For ease of Identification, Modernization Kits aregrouped by single or multiple gas service and with orwithout valve body assembly.
Economical ...Easy to do!Chemetron modernization kits are availablefor updating of outlets in walls, patientbedside consoles, prefabricated modular wallsystems, ceiling columns as well as forVacpak respiratory and suction servicecabinets. And this updating can be done asthe need arises, and/or time permits. Theyhave an attractive stainless steel fascia with asatin finish. The fascia has a color coded tabfor easy release of secondary equipment. It isalso safety-keyed by gas service to theexisting back box.The number of parts and assembly has beensimplified since a rugged latching mechanismis now part of the fascia assembly. Many kitsare available with a complete valve bodyassembly offering improved flowcharacteristics. The modernization kits aredesigned to allow hospital maintenancepersonnel to easily and economically updateolder version NCG outlets and enjoy all thebenefits of the new, simplified 400 SeriesOutlet. The following illustrates the ease withwhich this updating can be carried out.
STEP 1
a. Remove and discard cover screws and old cover plate.
b. Remove and discard stabilizer screws andand stabilizer, if applicable.
c. Remove and discard latch screws and latch(except on 148 series).
d. Remove valve body assembly if it is to be replaced with a new valve body assembly.
STEP 2
a. Mount conversion guard to outlet box with tamper-proof screws as illustrated. The gas service is stamped into the conversion guardfor identification.CAUTION: Extreme care must be takento ensure that the Conversion Guardincluded with the kit is used for thespecific gas service for which it isintended. This is necessary to avoid thepossibility of interchanging gases.
b. Insert new valve body assembly (if applicable).
c. Attach 400 Series fascia. The protruding “Keys” affixed to the fascia must match the “Keyhole Slots” in the conversion guard.It may be necessary to adjust the valvebodies inward or outward for optimum fasciafit.Matching of “Key” and “Slot” recognizeimportance of matching gas services. Donot rely on pipe decals- confirm outflow!
Extended Barrel is a special Valve Body or Face-plate. Always Modernize with a new valve body.

The performance and operation of the earlierseries of Nellcor Puritan BennettTM (nowBeacon Medical) outlets can be improved byinstalling a Series B Upgrade Kit. NellcorPuritan-Bennett outlets are identified by designconfigurations applicable to each of the threeoutlet series; Litharge, Series 73 and Series A.The complete upgrade kit consists of threecomponent assemblies: 1) a gas servicespecific outlet valve, 2) a coverplate, andstandoff for either 3-1/4” or 5” centerline spaceoutlets and 3) a connector for either litharge,Series 73, or series A outlets.
An upgrade program begins with an inventory ofthe outlet series to be upgraded. The illustrationbelow will aid in identifying the outlet series forordering the correct upgrade kit. Outlets are bestidentified by the design of the outlet block.Removal of the coverplate may be necessary tobe certain the correct connector is ordered.
Outlet Identification and Upgrade ComponentsUpdate Kits, Item #1, on the following page are used with all outlet series types. Connectors, Items # 2, #3, and #4 are used with specific series types. Coverplates and standoffs, Items #5 through #8are also used with specific series types. Figure 1 below shows key identification components of threeoutlet series types while Figure 2 shows the appropriate upgrade components.
