that the Scriptures we hear are God’s inspired word for us. Therefore, when we pray with the Scriptures, we can be confident that God shows us where and with
whom we are to “proclaim the word.” So as the familiar song proclaims, “Take the word of God with you as you go. Take the seeds of God’s word and let
them grow.”
Mass of Remembrance 2019 The Mass of Remembrance for our beloved

School News This year we welcomed back Mrs. Anne Damiano, our STEAM Director. During
STEAM class over the last few weeks, students have been reviewing the Engineering Design Process by participating in different design challenges. From marble mazes and writing
their names in binary code, to writing algorithms for a robot to follow, student-
engineers are engaged at SBCA! Much more is in store. On Thursday, SBCA presented STEAM Night. K2-6th grade students and families joined in a spooky hands-on night
of technology, art projects, family design challenges, and much more! A big thank you to Mrs. Damiano, Ms. Szmurlo, Ms. Logue, and our 6th graders, who helped facilitate--and to
the Museum of Science for making this event possible! SBCA is currently accepting applications for all classes, PreSchool to Grade 6. We have Before School and After
School Programs available and high acceptance rates to parochial, private,
and Boston Exam schools. Please contact Mrs. Jamie Brown, our Vice
Principal, with any questions or to sign up for a tour of the school at
SOCIETY OF ST VINCENT DE PAUL The Parish St. Vincent de Paul Society is in need of food

Respect Life Month - Baby Shower! Our parish Pro-Life Committee will hold a baby shower in honor of Respect Life Month on Oct.
26th and 27th. This event will support the archdiocesan pro-life efforts. All
donations may be brought to Masses that weekend. Most needed items at this time:
Bath towels, baby toiletries (shampoo, etc.), diaper bags, bibs, toys with no removable eyes or buttons, rattles,
pacifiers, bottles (4 oz and 8 oz, preferable Dr. Brown brand), bottle brushes, warm newborn
size clothing. At this time there is no need for snowsuits and
blankets because we have a generous amount of these on hand already donated.

Massachusetts Alliance to Stop Taxpayer Funded Abortions
Petition Signature Drive - Oct 26/27th Representatives from our Parishes in South Boston will be available in the Lower Church of each of our Parishes on the weekend of October 26-27th with petition sheets. This is a petition to amend the state constitution so that taxpayer funded

Classes began at South Boston Catholic Academy on
September 22 from 9-10:15AM. You may still register by visiting our website
www.GateofHeavenStBrigid.org and filling out our Online Registration Form under
“Religious Education.”
For those students enrolling in 1st grade who were not baptized in either Gate of Heaven or St. Brigid Church,
please provide a copy of your child’s Baptismal certificate to register.

Eucharist. RCIA classes run from 9am-11am at St. Brigid

Welcome to Fr. Karlo Horcurscak Cardinal Sean O'Malley has appointed Fr. Karlo to our Parishes effective November 2nd, 2019. Fr. Karlo was ordained for the Archdiocese of Boston 5 years ago. Since that time he has been parochial vicar and Pastor of the Parishes in the Beverly Collaborative - St Mary, St John
and St Margaret Parishes. Welcome Fr. Karlo! From Fr. Karlo: “My journey to the priesthood was a little different in that I did not grow up thinking I would be a priest. I grew up in southwest Connecticut and ended up coming to Worcester for college where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from WPI. After working 3 years in membrane filtration, for the next 7 years I worked as both a support engineer and developer. Having been a practicing Catholic all my life and having a pastor that encouraged me to think about the priesthood, I believed that I might have a vocation. I applied through Boston’s vocation office and was accepted at St. John’s Seminary. After ordination, I was assigned to Beverly where I served as parochial vicar for 3 years and pastor for the past 2 years. I am looking forward to serving you and helping to continue the work of the Gospel in South Boston.”

October 10th - Update on Gate of Heaven Parking Lot
Over the summer months the parish and archdiocese have actively sought bids to complete the parking lot construction.
We have worked to get better pricing on the excavation and paving so that we can complete the project this fall. WE NEED YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT to finish the project. We are
hoping this work will begin this fall - but due to many constraints we may have to wait until March to begin
the work. The demolition of the former school building was $100,000 over the original contract price due to the need for professional asbestos removal in the caulking of the former school windows. This extra cost
has caused some issues with moving forward. We hope that our Grand Annual Collection this year will
help with the cost of paving and landscaping our new parking lot. Thank you for your patience and support. We know that the property will look beautiful when
the construction is complete! Our goal for the Gate of Heaven Grand Annual is
