Mothers Day

A special day to honour all the Mom’s.

We will be giving all the moms the Red Carpet treatment - and a few other treatments as well as there will be a free mini-day-spa after the service! This will be a fun and inspirational celebration as the men and the kids of the church serve the ladies. Happy Mothers day!

Fathers DayA special day to honour all the Dad’s.

Our guest speaker will be Paul Scanlon, Senior Leader of Abundant Life Church, UK. Paul is an inspirational speaker, a fresh thinker, and a world-class conference speaker. His heart is to see a new breed of relevant, 21st century churches raised up. He also has a passion to see churches develop “real men”. Bring the man in your life to this amazing service!

Canada DayA special day to honour Canada’s multi-cultural heritage.

A service - or rather, party - you wont forget! We want to celebrate the inclusive multi-cultural heritage of Canada and of Gateway. Feel free to come dressed in the national dress of your cultural origins (or even an Oilers top!) and stay after the service for “A Taste of Gateway” with multi-cultural food choices. There will be a few surprises too!

hearing

voiceby Pastor MArtin Trench

T he story is about a young boy in Andalucía who has a dream about finding

treasure in Egypt near the Pyramids (although the book doesn’t say this clearly, it is interesting that the founding teaching of Alchemy is the Emerald Tablet, which, according to legend, is buried near or under the pyramids or sphinx …. but that’s another story). The boy thinks it is just a dream, until he meets a mysterious figure with a Biblical name – Melchizedek. He eventually goes on a journey to fulfill his dream, being guided along the way by the dream itself, his intuition, unusual “co-incidences” in the world around him, and advice from people he

meets along the way. When the dream in his heart, his intuition, the providential circumstances in the world around him, and the encouragements from the people he meets all align, it is a sign that he is on the right path. Sometimes he is tempted to give up by discouragement, when things don’t work out as he had hoped. Sometimes he is tempted to give up by comfort – when things are going well, why follow a dream? Just accept your life the way it is. But eventually, he overcomes these temptations and lives the

life he was destined to. It has a great and unexpected ending too. I recommend it.

It seems to me that this is similar to the way that the Bible describes God leading us. God puts a dream within our heart, He leads us intuitively by the inner guidance of the Holy Spirit, He works providentially in the circumstances of life “working all things together for good”, he speaks through other people in the form of advice, wisdom, even prophetically – but He has also given us the Bible as a guide or road map to prevent us from misreading or mishearing these other forms of guidance.

“The Kingdom of God is like a man who threw a great party and sent out invitations asking everyone to come”(Jesus. Luke 14:16-23)

We have a growing number of groups, most of which meet in homes, though some may meet at the church building or a cafe or other venue. We call these “House Parties” as they place a high priority on food & friendship, socializing, and simply hanging-out. They usually last one and a half to two hours, with a “spiritual growth” segment at some point in the party - like a short DVD teaching, opportunity to pray, or to take communion together.

Some of our House Parties only meet once or twice, others meet regularly to complete a study series like the Alpha Course, the Marriage Course, or Financial Peace University. Some are for women, or young adults, and others are open to everyone.

Please see our website or our Welcome Desk for information on all available groups.

Please ask at our Welcome Desk, visit or website, or contact Pastor Kirsten Glidden at the church office.

gateway kidsAt Gateway, kids matter! They are respected for the way God created them. He made them so that they love to play, discover, question and have fun, and He made them so they learn while doing. Every experience here at Gateway Kids has an eternal purpose behind it. Curriculum from My First Look (preschool), Kidzmatter Kitchen (grades 2-4) and Grapple (grades 5-6) provide engaging and interactive experiences for our kids.

Gateway Youth is for everyone in Junior or Senior High.

Our Youth group has a mixture of Club Nights, (where there are games, activities, or the opportunity to just hang out with friends. Also at each club night there is a short “spiritual growth” segment), House Parties (where the youth invade a volunteer’s home for the night), and Events (which are all different).

For more information see the Youth Facebook Page (facebook.com/groups/gateway.youth) or contact Pastor Brad at the church office.

Here at Gateway we have an exciting, creative, growing design and tech team who strive to make the name of Jesus famous through graphic design & new media, video, sound, lighting and presentation. For our Sunday services, we’re looking for sound engineers, lighting engineers/designers as well as presentation team members. Initial and on-going training will be provided. We always need fresh talent for our church news shoots, if you’re comfortable in front of a camera, give us a shout! We think we have some of the best jobs in the world, getting to be part of a professional production each week and getting to play with some really sweet technology, all for God’s glory!

We have a fantastic hospitality team here that make sure the first impression of Gateway is a great one. Our next season is all about the kingdom of God being like a party. We want to welcome people into our home - Gateway Alliance Church - as if welcoming them to the best party in town! We’ve found hope and joy in Jesus and that has to be worthy of a big celebration. Join us, be a part of something amazing and get enthusiastic about seeing new people come to the party!

Become part of the Community Life Team and help create opportunities for people to grow deeper in their walk with God. Creating ambience with set up and tear down on Deeper nights, serving on the Baptism/Membership Sunday team, being a part of teams that go to the Mustard Seed and becoming a “House Party” Host.

The key to every great party is to have a great place to hold the party! We have an amazing venue and property here at Gateway and it takes a lot of “behind the scenes” people to keep it looking great and functioning well. We need volunteers to do general upkeep around the building or landscaping and property maintenance during the summer especially. We also need people to look after opening and closing the building on Sunday mornings, for special events and rentals as well as people to rearrange our auditorium seating. Many of these opportunities to serve are ongoing and don’t require a weekly commitment, but having a list of people we can call on is vital. Consider adding your name to the list of willing party house preparers.

At Gateway we believe that art is a powerful way of expressing our God given creativity and want to use our gifts and talents to worship and creatively convey the awesome message of God’s love. We have spots open for musicians, singers, and artists of every kind. If you’re interested in using your musical or artistic gifts in the church, this is the team for you.

All communicators soon learn that communicating with clarity and impact involves far more than the words they use. It is a craft, a skill that requires constant development and training. This one-day course will inspire, strengthen and equip every communicator to hone their God-given gift so they can increasingly elevate people to a better place through awesome communication skills.

This training opportunity is designed to help preachers, teachers, group leaders, business and sales people and others who feel that effective communication is essential to their vocation in life. The course will focus on developing three important things: finding yourself, your message and your voice. All are essential to effective communication.

So if you aspire to be a more effective communicator in the 21st century, join us for learning and interaction, and invest in your future effectiveness as a communicator.

Please visit www.paulscanlon.eventbrite.com for all Communication Masterclass events.

Paul Scanlon leads the Abundant Life Church, England, UK. Since becoming the Senior Pastor, Paul has successfully led the church through a period of reinvention – which has resulted in the growth of a fast-paced, contemporary and culturally relevant church community. His leadership has also seen the launch of the Abundant Life Leadership Academy, the Abundant Life Network of churches. The blend of practical wisdom and humour which characterizes Paul’s preaching is also reflected in his numerous books.
