    de$i+ery channe$ for *anking transactions in India. Banks ha+e *een de%$oying

    TMs to increase their reach. s at the end of 4ecem*er 200 the num*er of

    TMs de%$oyed in India ,as 22

    5rom first day of %ri$ 2003 entire TM net,ork is no, a+ai$a*$e to

    customers from any *ank for transactions for no fee at a$$ irres%ecti+e of the

    *anks in ,hich they ha+e their accounts no, customers ,i$$ not *e $e+ied any

    fee on cash ,ithdra,a$s using TM and de*it card issued *y other *anks. This

    ,i$$ in turn increase usage of TMs in India.

    Increased TM usage is a$so he$%ed *y the fact that customers ha+e

    no, the f$e-i*i$ity of using TMs of other *anks as most of the *anks are %art

    of ma&or inter*ank net,orks $ike 7ationa$ 5inancia$ S,itch (75S# Cashtree and

    cashnet. The inter*ank net,orks ha+e *rought together TMSs of se+era$ *anks

    so that consumers ,ou$d gain access to any of the %artici%ating *anks TMs.

    Banks find it chea%er to %ay mem*ershi% fees to these net,orks as against

    setting u% additiona$ units in e-%ensi+e to de%$oy areas.

    TMs are no, seen to *e more than mere cash dis%ensing machines.

    Customers use TMs to recharge their mo*i$e %hone %re%aid connections %ay

    their uti$ity *i$$s e+en Mutua$ fund transactions 8 making them at %ar ,ithf$e-i*i$ity gi+en in internet *anking 8 on$y more secure. 9f the +a$ue!added

    ser+ices %ro+ided at TMs *i$$ %ayment is the most used ser+ice fo$$o,ed *y

    %re%aid mo*i$e ta$k!time recharges. :o,e+er sti$$ a*out one third of the

    res%ondents do not use any +a$ue!added ser+ices at TMs.

    The TM market in India is not yet saturated. Though theconcentrations of TMs are greater in metros the demand is increasing for other

    num*er and $ocation of the TM centers. But they sti$$ insisted that the num*er

    shou$d *e increased to gi+e enhanced ser+ice and satisfaction to its customers.

    'eo%$e ,ere ha%%y to say that the TM centers %ro+ides the currency in the

    denomination they ,ant and this ,as as good as dea$ing ,ith the cashier of the

    *ank ,here you can te$$ him ,hich denomination you ,ant.

    nother good finding from this sur+ey ,as that the TM centers of *ank rare$y

    run out of cash e+en though it is one of the $argest used TM centers. *out 36

    of the res%ondents said that it ne+er runs out of cash.

    The findings and the conc$usions re+ea$ that there is a $ot of changes ,hich can

    *e *rought a*out to im%ro+e the %erce%tion and satisfaction of the customers

    to,ards *anks TM centers.

    I recommend that

    Bank shou$d increase the num*er of TM centers and at strategic %ositions.

    Soft,are used *y the *ank shou$d *e u%dated and fast so that %eo%$e are not

    made to ,ait in the =ueue.

    Bank can *ring a$$ its ser+ices on the TM machines.

    5aci$ities $ike cash de%osit shou$d a$so start at the TM centers.

    To increase the customer *ase and the customer satisfaction the TM faci$ity

    shou$d *e made as secured and safe as %ossi*$e. ICICI TM is one of the safest

    *ut sti$$ there is sco%e for im%ro+ement.
