I was awarded The Bicentennial Trust Grant at The Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in March 1991 to fund a visit to another European medical centre. I visited St. Radboud Academisch Ziekenhuis, Nijmegen, Holland. This University Hospital under Professor P. Van den Broek, who undertook much Head and Neck surgery, otology and functional sinus surgery.

I received the Duphar Fellowship for the Eighth British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology, Summer 1991, based on research and publications into vertigo.

An Overseas Travelling Grant from the T.W.J. helped to fund my Neuro-otology attachment in Paris.

An Ethicon Foundation Fund grant was awarded for the Paris attachment. This is offered to applicants whose visit provides experience which could not be readily found in the U.K.

Consultant Appointment - Current position

1st March 1995 – present Consultant Otolaryngologist Guy’s, St. Thomas’ & Evelina Hospitals, London. Head of Paediatric ENT at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital Special interests: Neurotology, Otology, Paediatric Otolaryngology Adult and Paediatric Cochlear Implantation

Significant developments over recent years: I have initiated and developed a nationally & internationally recognised tertiary service in neonatal & paediatric airway surgery, in collaboration with intensive care, cardiac, and other allied specialties. We have now achieved a department with 5 consultants in paediatric ENT, a Post CCT Paediatric ENT Fellow, Paediatric Tracheostomy Nurse Practitioners, and a definitive SHO level Trust Paediatric ENT doctor; we are now awaiting confirmation of a 6th consultant post. I initiated a new (now funded) multi-disciplinary Vertigo service: this streamlines assessment, investigations and management of dizzy patients and involves ENT Vestibular physiotherapy and Audiology for adults Continuing excellent stapes & cholesteatoma surgery for adults and children; outcomes confirmed on clinical research, presentations & audits. My practice includes cochlear implantation in both adults and children (from age 5 months)
