Welcome to the new format Newsletter
In the last 2 years, the Newsletter has undergone a transition from a stale black and white printed letter to a brightly coloured and well-formatted on line magazine that reflects the new media technology of the 21st Century. Chris Hall has overseen this development to its current position for which we pass him many thanks. In July the baton will pass to Adam Kula. Our members have forwarded their comments and the magazine will change accordingly. The size will be reduced and the format changed. In particular, we will be focussing on ease of use. There will be updated lists of events, articles and club listings. The format will be such that members can print out individual pages which contain all the information they need. We will also incorporate events from Gaming Centres of which there has been a recent explosion of openings. We will still carry full colour ads for our Sponsors and Traders, but these will now be in a separate section and will feature more articles concerning their products and future plans…
Above all, this is a newsletter for the membership of the GCN. We want your articles, stories, photos in fact anything that shows what is going on in your club or area. It might be a report of a show or a review of some new rules you have tried out. We on the council will also feature a ‘what’s going down?’ section to let you know what we are doing and why so that you get a chance to add your say to the policies being carried forward. So we’ll kick off right away…

The Summer GCN Guide is now available. We intend to carry more of the information in these newsletters. This will be more effective as the Membership is always in flux with clubs joining and contact and address details being changed. The link to the guide as follows: GCN GUIDE If your club is running events and you require any please contact me with your requirements and I’ll send you a pack through the post.
We are also refurbishing the system of banners. Currently we only have three, for the South East, Midlands and Yorkshire. These are being replaced and new ones commissioned. With the advent of digital printing we are able now to customise their appearance, so that the new Banner for South Wales will be red and sport a Welsh Dragon alongside the GCN logo. If you are a GCN club putting events on and standing at shows outside the areas already covered, talk to Laurie Stewart (see the Council Contacts below), and you may find yourselves carrying a banner decked out in your regional colours. Laurie also carries a stock of Dice, Figures and Badges which are available as giveaways.
The website has been the GCN’s bane for years and the subject of much criticism, most of it deserved. The revamp and reconstruction of the website has been plagued by ill luck. The Council have decided to make an end to it. We will be commissioning a completely new website during the Autumn, to be completed by Christmas at the latest. This will incorporate many features requested by GCN members and will above all be user friendly and relevant. This is being overseen by Martyn Gough and Adam Kula, so if you have any ideas or comments, they are the guys to contact.
The Discounts and Offers scheme has proved very popular (I wonder why?). In the Autumn, we expect to double the number of companies involved in this scheme. Because of this and the added complication of so many codes, the system will be changed as follows. Instead of many codes, the GCN will issue a new password each quarter starting with October which will cover all of the Offers/Discounts. Additionally, we will be assigning each member club their own ID reference. For example Chesterfield Gaming Society might be DECO44. Whenever a club applies to a company for the offer or discount they will required to provide both the Quarter’s Password and their own ID reference. The first password will be given out as the Annual Returns are received from each Club. The Club IDs will be published with the July and August editions of the Newsletter. We would ask that you also use the Club ID as a reference when paying subs/PLI as often if the payment comes from a private cheque or Paypal account, the payee can sometimes be difficult to identify.
