GCSE PE
• Worth 1 GCSE (3 lessons a week, 2 practical & 1 theory)• The course is 60% practically based and 40% theory based. 1 big written
theory exam at the end of the course.• You have to be good at PE and be able to perform in a variety of activities.
You choose your best 4 to be examined in.• You must have a keen interest in sport and how the body works.• You must be working towards a NC level 5a at least, to be suitable for the
course (see your teachers to see if you are on track to achieve this by the end of the year).
• You must have a track record of high participation in lessons, a positive attitude to PE and good organisation of kit.
• You must be willing to perform practically in all lessons – we very rarely have any notes excusing students from practical GCSE PE lessons!
BTEC SPORT
• Worth 1 GCSE with 3 lessons a week. • The course is 75% coursework and 25% exam based with most
lessons theory based but some will be practical at certain times.• You do NOT need to be good at PE, but you need to have a strong
interest in the world of PE and sport. • You must be willing to lead others in some practical coaching
sessions as part of the course will involve working towards achieving the ‘Sports Leader’ Award.
• A commitment to after school activities is required to lead various Primary school competitions, tournaments and festivals.
• You must have good ICT and English skills as the majority of the coursework will be done on the VLE.
• You do not need previous Dance experience but you must be willing to learn.• An appropriate Dance kit is required and practical activities are performed in bare feet.• A commitment after school is required. There are BTEC Dance clubs and a Dance Show you are required to perform in.• If you would like any more information, please speak to Miss Brown.
• The course is 75% internally assessed and 25% externally assessed and is worth 1 GCSE (3 lessons a week)• You must be willing to perform by yourself and in groups in front of large audiences.
