GOPHER DUNES RACING 4385 Hwy 59 Courtland, ON, N0J1E0 519-842-1041 [email protected] Medaglia takes 4th Overall at Round 3 in Calgary Courtland, Ontario- One week after Medaglia's 2nd overall at Round 2 in Kamloops, the GDR Troy Lee Designs Powersports Honda team was in Calgary set to do battle with the nations top MX1 riders. Looking to build on his current 3rd place ranking in the series standings Medaglia came out of the gate on a mission and took the Moto 1 holeshot. With the best of the best running up front, Goerke, Klatt, Kiniry and Facciotti, the stage was set for the battle everyone had been anticipating since the off-season. Medaglia kept the #11 GDR Troy Lee Designs Powersports Honda CRF 450 in front of the pack for 5 laps but admittedly began riding a bit tight and fell back to a 4th place finish in Moto 1. "It was a tough race, I came out of the gate just as I had hoped with the holeshot but I was riding a little tight and being in the mix with all these other top level riders I got away from my usual game plan a bit and didn't keep my pace" said Medaglia. In typical west coast fashion Mother Nature had everyone at Wildrose wondering if their pit tents would be blown away or if we were in for a rain-filled 2nd Moto. Luckily the skyʼs cleared and the stage was set for another MX1 grudge match in front of a large and enthusiastic gathering of moto fans. Medaglia came out of the gate strong but caught up with a group of riders in turn one and found himself in a respectable 9th place. Unfortunately by the time the GDR Troy Lee Designs Powersports Honda rider was able to get through traffic the front runners had already put a bit of a gap on the group and Tyler found himself battling with KTM rider Dusty Klatt about 10 seconds off the leaders. An unfortunate mishap at the 20minute mark put Medaglia to the ground in a rather harsh crash allowing Klatt to get by him for 4th place. In typical Medaglia fashion he re-mounted his bike and managed to finish the race despite a damaged bike and some bumps and bruises securing a 4-5 weekend finish for a 4th overall for the weekend. "It wasn't the weekend I was looking for obviously. Anytime I'm not on the box at the end of the day its tough but there is no sense in dwelling on this weekend its time to start mentally and physically preparing for Edmonton and rest assure I'm going to show up there and put this GDR team back on the box where we belong" Medaglia and team GDR currently sit in 3rd place after 3 Rounds of the CMRC Monster Energy Canadian Nationals with a combined 106 points. The Gopher Dunes Racing staff would like to thank its amazing sponsors which make all of this possible.
