    T I P S F O RF L A S H P H O T O G R A P H YA flash picture is a better picture . . . besides, withflash you're sure of every shot. Here are some tipson using flashbulbs.Your Car Wan't Start on a Weale aettery Neither Will a FlashbulblWeak batteries cause 90% of all flash failures. Some

batteries are so weak they won't flash a bulb . . .others burn out the tiny filament without igniting thefoil. When this happens, even a new i,?attery won'tflash the bulb.Use one of the new GE test lamps

to check your battery and flashholder.

    ,jj1 ~W ~J~11111E A C E E K B J YGE test lamps warn you when batteries are low or

when there's trouble anywhere in the flashing circuit."EAC" fits the socket of flashholders using No. 5type flashbulbs, "EEK" fits the miniature M2 typesocket, and "B)Y" fits AG1 sockets.II The Camera Has Been Idle work the shuttera few times before loading film and bulh. This willdean the flash contacts for better synchronization.

Shooting Blacle and White PicturesWith G ..E FlashbulbsUse clear GE flashbulbs with any popular black

and white film. Indoors, flash gives the right amountof light so you're sure of good pictures. In daylight, flash puts detail in those murky shadows . . . forbetter pictures.

Shooting Color With ClearG ..E FlashbulbsAny dear GE flashbulb (except SM) balances with

type "F" color film. SM bulbs may be used with"Tungsten" or professional type "A" film. with-out filter.

Shootins Color With BlueG-E FlashbulbsUse blue GE flashbulbs with any Daylight type

color film, indoors . . . outdoors ... day or night. They are used either as the sale source of light oras supplementary illumination in daylight.

Flash With KodacolorUse any clear G-E flashbulb with all indoor shots

on Kodacolor, also for pictures outdoors at night ...but use a blue GE flashbulb in daylight.

Focal Plane " The new GE PowerSprite AGl & AG-lB and PowerMites M3,M3B, M5 &M5B flashbulbs synchronize like focal plane flashbulbs (at any shutterspeed) with many late model 35mm focal plane Cameras. To try them with yourcamera ... set your synchronizer for focal plane flashbulbs ... then determine theexposure from the Guide Number tables printed below.NOTE: Guide Number tables printed on packages of these lamps are for frontshutter synchronizers and are not applicable to focal plane synchronization.

Discerning amateur and professional photographershave long preferred G-E enlarging lamps becausetheir smooth light, distribution makes sharp, pro-fessionallooking enlargements a matter-of-fact opera-tion. When the enlarger is equipped with a G-E lampyou know you have the best possible distribution ofthe right color light ... whether you print black andwhite or color.

There is a special General Electric lamp for everyenlarger. Itmakes no differencewhether it is a verticalor horizontal enlarger ... or whether it has a con-denser, diffusion, or combination lamphouse system.Certain GE enlarging lamps are clear, others arewhite or inside frosted, and three are circular fluores-cent . . . two white and one blue.

For Example: Take General Electric's new trio of dichroic reflectorlamps ... DEF, DKR & DLS ....Designed specifically for. 8 mm movie projectors, these 21-volt,150-watt lamps provide brilliant screen intensity yet subject thefilm [0only one-half the usual operating temperature.

The most unusual feature. of_these lamps is the internal dichroicreflector which must be:

    1. A precisely formed glass mirror2. Which reflects visible light3. But transmits infrared (heat) raysto the projector's cooling system

    4. To provide cooler filmproj ection with equivalenr Iight intensi ty.RigiL quality controls are essential to assure optimum performancefrom these remarkable lamps . . . for example:

    1. The multiple layer dichroic filter coating ... which transmitsheat while reflecting the light ... is applied to the glass, onelayer at a time; each layer is approximately 1/3,000,000" thick.2. The contour of the reflector must not deviate more than1/1000" from specifications.

    3. Exact.positioning of the filament in the reflector is mandatory. No filament misalignment or variation in filament-to-reflectordistance can be tolerated.

General Electric takes such exacting tolerance requirements in stridesince strict quality control standards have always played a major partin maintainin g General Electric's position of Ieadershi pin the industry.Other quality features built into these lamps are:1. The CC-6 filament ... compact in size for maximum screenbrilliance ... rugged in strength for better resistance to ship-ping and operational shocks.2. New ceramic inserts insulate the leads from the reflector ...to give added mechanical strength at stress points.

    3. The sturdy support assembly ... bolstered by two curvedmetal bars ... permanently positions the reflector exactly onthe projector's optical axis.

    4. The easy-to-seat 4-pin base is carefully aligned to the reflector-support combination . . . for precise prefocus,The GE DEF, DKR, and DLS concept eliminates the need for reflectorsand condensers in modern 8 rnm movie projector designs. Theyalso permit the use of more economical cooling systems, or in someinstances, no cooling system at all . . . because the dichroic reflectoreliminates half of the heat from the projector's film gate.NOTE: OEF is an exact replacement for the hotter burning DCA

lamp and DLS exactly replaces the old fashioned DLGlamp in all old or new equipment.Replace with a G-E dichroic reflector lamp and banish all worriesabout film sticking, buckling, or fading due to excessive heat.Bul Remember: DCA & DLG may not be substituted in projectors

designed for dichroic reflector lamps because ordinary lampsconcentrate too much heat on the film gate. .

FOR LAMPS NOT LISTED IN THIS SECTION SEEYOUR G-E SUPPLIER OR G-E PHOTOLAMPPRICE SCHEDULE

This section is designed to give you a handy reference to the specific lamp for anyparticular projector. The next four pages alphabetically list the G-E lamps andspecifications for the projector-lamp guide section immediately following.

    T ip s O n U s i n g T h e P r o i e d i o n L a m p G u id eChoose the Proper Category. Projection equipment is grouped by type and application. Categories

include 8mm Projectors, 16mm Projectors, Miniature Slide Projectors, Glass Slides &OpaqueCopy Projectors, Sound lamps for Movie Projectors, and Viewing & Editing Equipment.

Select the Projector by Model Name and Number. All projectors are listed alphabetically by pro-jector model. The name of the manufacturer will not usually be listed in the left column. Forexample: A National Color Tru-Hue projector would be listed under "Tru-Hue." The secondcolumn shows the model number, the third gives the manufacturer and the fourth lists thelamp or lamps recommended for this specific projector.

To Identify and Order Lamps. The three letter A.S.A. lamp code is all that is needed to completelyidentify and order GE Photolamp projection and sound lamps. The complete listing oflamps on pages 28 & 29 is arranged in alphabetical order by code. Complete specificationsare included with the lamps on these pages. For current prices see the "G-E PhotolampPrice Schedule."

P r o i e d io n l a m p T ip s10 and 15 Hour Projection Lamps are Brighter. Projection lamps are highly efficient light sourcesdesigned to concentrate the maximum amount of light through a projector's optical systemThe life rating of these lamps range from ten to fifty hours. Some new projection lamps, suchas the Gold Top "CAR", are designed with a fifteen hour life rating, to provide high screenlumens in a small lamp. Many 500, 750 and WOO-watt projection lamps are available in both 10 and 25-hour life de-sign. The 25-hour design is used most frequently. However, when maximum screen brightnessis required, the 10-hour lamp may be used in the same socket and projector. Lamp wattage is thesame with either the 10 or 25-hou lamp but the lO-hour lamp puts 10% to 15% more lighton the screen. In 1000-watt lamp designs the 10-hour lamp is most commonly used since maximum

screen brightness is usually required. These lamps are also available in 25-hour design wherelonger life is desirable and less screen brightness can be tolerated.

S u b s t i t u t in g H i g h e r W a tt a g e L a m p sMotion picture and slide projectors are designed to give best cooling and performance withlamps of specific wattage, The design wattage will be found on the name plate of every pro-jector. Higher wattage lamps may result in film damage, severe lamp distortion, and evenpossible damage to the projector's lenses and housing.
