Description:
Welcome to one of the most historic 75 acres in the United States - the GE Realty Plot. Known simply as "The Plot," this planned 19th-20th century community is symbolic of the rise of Schenectady's historical importance as the center of early 20th century advancements in technology. The plot was the home of several of America's most brilliant scientists and inventors. It is the place where the first transatlantic fax (1924) and first television broadcast (1927) occurred and where the first all electric house was demonstrated for the first time (1903). While the Plot was the inspiration and creation of leaders from General Electric Company in 1899, it by no means only housed GE personnel, as you will learn from this tour. In addition to wonderful human history, there exists today some of the finest examples of American architecture to admire - from Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Tudor, to Vernacular and other styles.
