Handling the appliancePutting it into usePlace the accessories into the appliance then plug to themains socket. The thermostat knob is on the light box in the refrigerator. You can switch the appliance on and set the temperaturewith it by turning the knob clockwise. The next paragraph will give instructions for setting.

Controlling the temperature, settingThe thermostat interrupts the operation of the applianceautomatically for more or less time depending on the set-ting then restarts it assuring the required temperature. The closer it is set to maximum position the more inten-sive the refrigerating will be. When the thermostat knob isset to a medium position (between minimum and maxi-mum), in the freezer a temperature colder than -18°C, inthe refrigerator around +5°C can be reached. Setting it toa medium position is adequate for everyday use.The temperature coming about in the refrigerator iseffected by not only the position of the thermostat but theambient temperature, frequency of door openings andthe quantity of food put into it newly, etc.

In the maximum position - in case of increaseddemand e.g. during heatwaves - the compres-

sor may operate continually. This does not causedamages to the appliance.

How to use the refrigeratorFor adequate cooling developing interior air circu-lation is necessary. For this reason you are asked

not to cover the air circulation gaps behind the shelves(e.g. with tray etc.).

Do not put hot food into the refrigerator. Allowit to reach room temperature naturally. In this

way the unnecessary frost building up can be avoid-ed.

Foods can take over odours from each other. So it is essential to put foods in closed dishes

or wrap them in cellophane, aluminium foil, grease-proof paper or cling film before placing them into therefrigerator. This way foods will keep their moisturee.g. vegetables will not dry out after some days.

Storing in the refrigeratorWhen placing the different kinds of food take into consid-eration the sketch below in figure:1. Butter, cheese2. Eggs3. Tubes, cans, sour cream, small bottles4. Drinks in big bottles, soda-water and mousse siphon5. Fruits, vegetables, salads6. Fresh meat, cold cuts, sausages, etc.7. Milk, dairy products8. Ready-cooked foods, confectionery, foods in dishes

covered, opened cans, bottles laid, etc.

57

GB

Storage time and temperature offoodsThe storage time chart at the end of the instruction bookgives information about storage time. The storage time can not be determined exactly inadvance, as it depends on the freshness and handling ofthe cooled food. That is why the storage time madeknown is only informative. If you do not want to use up deep-frozen foods boughtimmediately they can be stored for about 1 day (until dis-solving) in the refrigerator.

How to use the freezerFreezingIn the compartment various fresh food can be frozen athome. Mind the following to get thorough result.Freeze fresh and faultless food only. Before starting freezing set the thermostatic control knobto position "3-4" and put the wire shelf in the frozen foodcompartment to the highest position. Then put in thequantity to be frozen, directly on the wire shelf. Freezingis completed in approx. 24 hours. After 24 hours set thethermostatic control knob back to "Medium" (3-4) posi-tion, or leave that in position "4" which is usually adequatefor everyday use. It is practical to store the frozen food onthe cooling plate or on each other under the wire shelf inthe froozen food compartment.

Avoid opening the door of frozen food compart-ment during freezing if possible. It is not expedient to set the termostat knob to high-er (e.g. "6") position. Freezing time could be

reduced this way, but the temperature of the fresh foodcompartment would go beyond 0°C permanently, whichwould cause freezing to foods and drinks stored there.

Never freeze food in bigger quantity than givenin the "Technical data" at the same time, other-

wise freezing will not be thorough and after dissolv-ing various deterioration may take place (losingtaste and aroma, lysing, etc.).

Do not make ice during freezing preferably, bacause making ice reduces freezing capacity.

Storing in the freezerAfter finishing freezing it is practical to put the frozen foodfrom the wire shelf in the frozen food compartment to theplace undar that making room for a next possible freez-ing. Adjustment of the wire shelf in the frozen food com-partment ("2" positions) can be used only during storing,as freezing can be done only at the highest position of thewire shelf. Food already stored is not damaged by anoth-er freezing.(The goods when are put directly on the cooling platefreeze too fast!)

Do not forget to keep to the storage time given onthe packaging of frozen products if you buy them

frozen. It is safe to store quick-forzen, frozen foods only ifthey have not dissolved even for a short time until

placing them into freezer. If the deep-frozen food has already dissolved, refreezingis not recommended, it has to be used as soon as possi-ble.

58

GB

How to make ice cubesTo make ice cubes fill the enclosed ice cube tray withwater and put it to the frozen food compartment. Wettingthe bottom of the tray and setting thermostatic controlknob to maximum position can shorten preparing time. After finishing do not forget to reset the thermostatic con-trol to the suitable position.Ready ice cubes can be taken out of the tray under run-ning water then twist or hit it. If the ice tray freezes to thecompartment, avoid using metal tools or knife to take it outas the cooling system can be damaged.

Some useful information andadvice

The variable shelves are worth paying attention to,which increases the usability of the fresh food compart-ment considerably. Rearranging the shelves is alsopossible when the door is open at an angle of 90 .After opening and closing the door of freezer vacuumwill rise inside the appliance because of the low tem-perature. So wait 2-3 minutes after closing the door - ifyou want to open it again - while inner pressure equalis-es.Take care of operating the freezer at a position of ther-mostatic control so that the inside temperature cannever be warmer than -18 C.It is practical to make sure of faultless operation of theappliance daily so as to notice possible failure in timeand prevent deterioration of frozen foods.Normal operating sounds:

A thermostat controls the compressor and you willhear a faint click when thermostat cuts in and out.You may hear faint gurgling or bubbling soundwhen the refrigerant is pumped thorough the coilsat the rear, to the cooling plate/evaporator.When the compressor is on, the refrigerant isbeing pumped round and you will hear a whirringsound or pulsating noise from the compressor. The fridge evaporator (this part cool down thefridge section) is foamed into the cabinet. The tem-perature of this part changing during its work, andparallel with this its dimensions are slightly chang-ing, too. These changes might cause a crackingnoise, which is natural, harmless phenomenon.

Should you want to check the temperature of foodstored in the refrigerator, set the thermostat knob into amedium position, place a glass of water centrally in thecabinet, and put a proper thermometer with an accura-cy of +/- 1°C into it. If after 6 hours you measure avalue between +3°C and +8°C, the refrigerator worksproperly. The measuring shall be performed understeady-stated conditions (without changing the load). If the freezer temperature is measured using a ther-mometer, put it between the products since this willreflect the real temperature in the frozen products.

Hints and ideasIn this chapter practical hints and ideas are given abouthow to use the appliance to reach maximum energy sav-ing and there is environmental information about the appli-ance as well.

59

GB

How to save energyAvoid putting the appliance in a sunny place and nearanything that gives off heat.Be sure that the condenser and the compressor arewell ventilated. Do not cover the sections where venti-lation is.Wrap products in tightly closing dishes or cling film toavoid building up unnecessary frost.Do not leave the door open longer than necessary andavoid unnecessary openings.Put warm foods into the appliance when they are atroom temperature.Keep the condenser clean.

The appliance and environmentThis appliance does not contain gasses which could dam-age the ozone layer, in either its refrigerant circuit or insu-lation materials. The appliance shall not be discardedtogether with the urban refuse and rubbish. Avoid damag-ing the cooling unit, especially at the rear near the heatexchanger. Information on your local disposal sites maybe obtained from your municipal authorities. The materials used on this appliance marked with the sym-pol are recyclable.

MaintenanceDefrostingBleeding part of the moisture of cooling chambers in formof frost and ice goes with the operation of the appliance.Thick frost and ice has an insulating effect, so it reducescooling efficiency as the temperature increases in thecooling chambers and they need more energy. At this type of appliance defrosting the cooling plate of therefrigerator is automatic without any external intervention. The thermostatic control interrupts the operation of com-pressor at regular intervals for more or less time - duringthis cooling is interrupted - the temperature of the coolingplate goes above 0°C due to interior heating load of thecompartment, so defrosting occurs. When the surfacetemperature of the cooling plate has reached +3 - +4°Cthe thermostatic control restarts operation of the system.Melting water flows through defrost water outlet leadedthrough the back into the evaporative tray maintained onthe top of compressor and evaporates due to its warmth.

Check and clean the outlet of melting watercoming during defrosting regularly - a label

inside the appliance warns you for this. If it is cloggedthe melting water gathered can cause earlier failureas it can go to the insulating of the appliance.Clean the melting water outlet with the supplied pipescraper that can be seen in the figure. The pipe scraperhas to be stored in the outlet. The most typical case of clogging up in the melting wateroutlet when you put food wrapped in some paper into theappliance and this paper contacts back plate of the refrig-erator and freezes to it. If you remove the food right at thismoment the paper will tear and it can cause clogging upin the outlet by getting into it.So you are asked to be careful - because of the above - when placing foods wrapped in paper into theappliance.

60

GB

In case of increased demand e.g. during heat-waves, the refrigerator temporarily happens to

operate constantly. During this the automatic defrosting isineffective.Remaining small ice and frost stains on back plate of therefrigerator after defrosting period is not abnormal. The freezer can not be equipped with automatic defrost-ing set since the deep-frozen and frozen foods do notendure melting temperature. When small frost and ice occurs scrape off and removefrost and ice coating with the supplied plastic scraper. The tray in figure is not a piece of accessories to the appli-ance!When ice coating is so thick that it cannot be removedwith the plastic scraper, the cooling plate has to bedefrosted. Frequency of defrosting depends on usage(generally 2-3 times a year).Take the frozen foods out of the appliance, and put theminto a basket lined with paper or cloth. Store them in apossibly cool place or replace them into another refriger-ator.Pull out the mains plug from the mains socket, so bothparts of the appliance are out of operation.Open the doors of both parts of the appliance and cleanthe refrigerator according to 'Regular cleaning'. Maintainand clean the freezer as following:Sweep the melting water with a cloth or sponge off thecooling plate. The melting water swept down gathers inthe bottom of the appliance and can be removed with ahygroscopic cloth or a sponge.Wipe the surfaces after defrosting.Put the mains plug into the mains socket and put foodstaken out back to their places. It is recommended to operate the appliance at the highestposition of the thermostatic control for some hours so thatit can reach the sufficient storing temperature as soon aspossible.

Regular cleaningIt is recommended to wash the inside of the refrigerator in3-4 weeks time using lukewarm water then wipe it (it ispractical to clean the inside of the freezer and defrost it ata time).Household cleaner or soap must not be used. After breaking the circuit wash the appliance with luke-warm water then wipe it. Clean the door gasket with cleanwater. After cleaning apply voltage to the appliance. It is recommended to remove the dust and dirt collectedon the back of the refrigerator and the condenser and toclean the evaporative tray on top of the compressor onceor twice a year.

When the refrigerator is not in useIn case the appliance will not be used for a long time fol-low these steps:Break the circuit of the appliance.Remove foods from the refrigerator.Defrost and clean it as written before.Leave the door open to avoid a build up of air inside.

61

GB

Trouble shootingHow to change the bulbShould the light fail to work you can change it as below:Break the circuit of the appliance.Press the rear hook (1) and at the same time slide thecover in the direction indicated by arrow (2). So the bulbcan be replaced. (Bulb type: 230-240 V, 15 W, E 14thread)After changing the bulb replace the cover, snap it in placeand apply voltage to the appliance.

If something does not workDuring operation of the appliance some smaller butannoying trouble can often occur, which does not requirecalling a technician out. In the following chart informationis given about them to avoid unnecessary charges onservice. We draw your attention that operation of appliance goeswith certain sounds (compressor- and circulating sound). This is not trouble, but means normal operation.

We draw it to your attention again that the applianceoperates discontinuously, so the stopping of com-

pressor does not mean being no-current. That is why youmust not touch the electrical parts of the appliance beforebreaking the circuit.
