College students continue to be at risk for gender-based violence, which includes domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. The Bureau of Justice Statistics indicates that women ages 20-24 are at the highest risk of dating violence, one in five women (20%) experience sexual assault in their college years, and young women aged 18-24 are at the highest risk of stalking. Additionally, women with disabilities, women of color and interna- tional female students, are estimated to be at a greater risk than the general population. Men as well as women can be victims of relationship violence. Although at a lower percentage rate, college men suffer from dating abuse, sexual violence and stalking. Victims of gender-based violence are more likely to suffer academically from depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, to abuse alcohol and drugs and to contemplate suicide.
