She Figures represents the main source of data in Europe on gender equality in research and innovation. Let’s have a look at the most prominent findings.
http://ec.europa.eu/research/swafs
There’s an overall gender balance among PhD graduates EU 27- 2010: 46 % - 2012 : 47.2 %
Health and welfare : 2010: 56 % - 2012 : 59% Life science – 2012 : 58 %
A third of EU researchers are women
Higher Education Sector- Medical sciences In 2012 : from 23 % in LU to 67% in FI > 50 % in 15 Member States
Compound growth rate since 2005: + 4.8 % EU 27: 2010 and 2012 : 33%
By contrast, only one in five researchers is a woman in the business sector
C21: manufacture of pharmaceutical products & preparations: 47.3%
Women researchers are still increasingly underrepresented as they move up the stages of
an academic career.
Career advancement

Proportion of women heads of higher education institutions in the EU-28 reached 20% in 2014, having risen from just over 15% in
the EU-27 in 2010.
Women make up 28% of scientific and administrative board members
and 22% of board leaders
Boards of national research organisations 2014
Keyword-based query Web of Science TM data (Thomson Reuters)
New indicator : proportion of scientific publications which mention explicitly the gender dimension in their subject
matter
Explicit mention of a gender dimension in scientific publications
(biological characteristics, social and cultural futures of both women and men)
Web of Science TM data (Thomson Reuters) Medical sciences : only humans, only articles with both gender
