GHWN Gender Equity Hub • Purpose: Accelerate large-scale gender-transformative progress to address gender inequities and biases in the health and social workforce
• One thematic hub under the GHWN umbrella, time limited, reporting to WHO
•Co-chaired by WHO and Women in Global Health. Meets fortnightly.
• Established at 4th Global Forum on Human Resources for Health, Dublin, Ireland
Priority areas for the health workforce
•Equal representation women/men in management/ leadership
•Equal pay for work of equal value
•Employment free from harassment, discrimination and violence
What we do •Mapping: eg evidence on good practice, what works
•Data and Evidence: current data and evidence, and gaps
•Policy Tools: capture and develop policy briefs
•Disseminate: evidence, policy tools, advocacy kits, accountability scorecards, guidance to other GHWN hubs
•Implementation: policy labs, business solutions, public – private sector engagement
Working For Health Deliverables
• Development of gender-transformative global policy guidance
• Support to build implementation capacity to overcome gender biases and inequalities in the education and labour market.

Key messages • Women health workers deliver care to around 5 billion people. Empowering & enabling them is everybody’s business.
• Not just an issue for low & middle income countries.
• Pandemics, anti microbial resistance etc don’t respect national borders. We all need robust health systems everywhere.
• Smart to invest in health workers now – don’t wait till you need one
• Gender equity essential to Health for All & Universal Health Coverage
