General Information 1. Participant Eligibility: Men and women 50 years and older (as of 12/31/18) who have resided in North
Carolina for a minimum of 3 consecutive months during the last 12 months may participate in Senior Games & SilverArts. A participant’s age on December 31, 2018 determines the age category in which they will compete.
2. Age Categories: Medals are awarded in each athletic event by age category (men/women separately): 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95-99, etc.
3. Entry: Complete OFFICIAL ENTRY FORMS and sign. Submit FORMS, with payment, including Athletic and SilverArts forms printed on YELLOW paper. Please save the remaining pages (printed on WHITE paper) for your reference. DISREGARD IF YOU DOWNLOAD AND PRINT FROM bcparks.recdesk.com. You may also enter online at bcparks.recdesk.com.
4. Fees: Payment of fees, including bowling and golf must accompany the OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM. Make checks or money orders payable to Brunswick County Gator Senior Games & SilverArts.
5. T-Shirt: One shirt is provided with each entry. Circle preferred size. Additional shirts are $12.00 each. 6. SilverArts Participants: Complete all entry information (title, sub-category, size, etc.) and verify that it
meets all applicable requirements (see attached “Specific Sub-Category Requirements for SilverArts”). 7. Confirmation letters: Entry confirmation letters will be emailed to each participant by March 30, 2018.
It is the participant’s responsibility to check for any errors in event choice and event partner listings. Report all corrections/changes to Khrystye Haselden, 910-253-2670 as soon as possible.
8. Medals/Ribbons: Ribbons will be awarded for SilverArts events (Performing Arts winners will receive medals) and winning artists recognized at the SilverArts Reception and Follies, held on Friday, May 4, 2018. There is no fee to attend, the public is invited to attend, and no RSVP required. Medals will be awarded for athletic events at the Celebration Social and Medals Ceremony, held Tuesday, May 15, 2018, although ALL PARTICIPANTS (Artists & Athletes) are invited to attend. There is no fee for this event and family/friends are invited to attend. YOU MUST RSVP FOR THIS EVENT BY MONDAY, MAY 7, 2018. If you fail to RSVP, you will not be allowed to attend. If you are not present to accept your medals/ribbons at the designated times, medals/ribbons packets will be available at the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation office Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-5:00 pm beginning May 16, 2018 through June 15, 2018. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PICK UP YOUR MEDALS/RIBBONS PACKET OR HAVE SOMEONE PICK UP THE PACKET ON YOUR BEHALF. PACKETS WILL NOT BE MAILED.
9. State Finals Information: The 2018 NC State Finals will be held in Raleigh, NC, September 17–23, 2018 (Bocce, Cornhole, Golf, Pickleball, Softball, Basketball are held at other venues/dates). Athletes who win 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in a Sanctioned Athletic Event are eligible to participate. SilverArts participants, who win 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in Visual and Heritage Arts, 1st, 2nd place in Literary Arts, and/or 1st place in Performing Arts are eligible to participate in NC State Finals SilverArts competition. An artist may only submit one entry per subcategory to State Finals; except in Performing Arts----an artist may only have one entry per size of act in each sub-category. SilverArts winners must submit an additional SilverArts Information form with their State Finals Official Entry form. State Finals Official Entry forms will be made available on May 15, 2018, at the Celebration Social and Medals Ceremony or you can register online at ncseniorgames.org. The deadline to enter State Finals is August 1, 2018 at 11:59 pm.

SilverArts Events Information (please refer to the 2018 Schedule of Events for additional info)
SilverArts Showcase (visual, heritage, and literary art entries display) will open for viewing at Leland Cultural Arts Center beginning Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 9:00 am through 9:00 pm and will close on Friday, May 4, 2018 with the conclusion of the SilverArts Reception & Follies. SilverArts Showcase is free and open to the public. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded in each category/subcategory of Heritage, Visual, and Literary Arts. Submission/check-in of Visual and Heritage Art Entries will be held at Leland Cultural Arts Center between 9:30 am and 10:30 am on Monday, April 30, 2018. Entries may also be submitted early to BC Parks and Recreation (20 Referendum Drive, Bolivia) Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm until Wednesday, April 25, 2018. A signed liability waiver will be required if entries are submitted early. These entries will be transported to Leland Cultural Arts Center on April 30, 2018 for display. Judging will be completed on April 30, 2018. All art work must be picked up following the Follies on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Leland Cultural Arts Center. Early pick up is not permitted. BC Gator Senior Games & SilverArts will not be responsible for art entries left after 12:00 pm on May 4, 2018. SilverArts Reception & Follies will be held at Leland Cultural Arts Center on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:00 am. This event is a talent extravaganza and the public is welcome to attend. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals will be awarded in the Performing Arts category to conclude the Show. 1st place winners qualify to represent Brunswick County in Raleigh at NC State Finals SilverArts Follies scheduled for September 21, 2018. All participants in Performing Arts must attend the SilverArts Follies performance rehearsal to be held on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 10:00 am at Leland Cultural Arts Center. SilverArts Reception & Follies will recognize 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place artists in each category/subcategory of Heritage, Visual, and Literary Arts.
Athletic Events Information (please refer to the 2018 Schedule of Events for additional info)
1. Entry: All participants and event partners must be entered. It is each participant’s responsibility to ensure event
partners are entered by deadline. 2. Event Check-In: Participants must arrive at the event site 15 minutes before the event begins or before your
scheduled event time. Each participant MUST have a photo ID available for check-in each day at each event. Upon arrival, please check-in with the event manager.
3. Rain Dates: In the case of inclement weather, participants should check the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation FACEBOOK page the morning of the event for up-to-date info on the rescheduling/venue changes of the event.
4. Bowling Fee: A fee of $6.00 per event is due in addition to the regular entry fee and must be submitted with entry. 5. Golf: A fee of $40.00 is due in addition to the regular entry fee and must be paid with entry. Participants are
required to supply their own clubs and balls. To qualify for State Finals, players must meet a minimum performance score (MPS) and finish in the top 3 in their age group. MPS is available from your Senior Games Coordinator. Golfers may indicate those with whom they would prefer to be paired. Dependent upon participation, golf participants may be paired with others by age category. Pairings at event start are final. Participants may also be given a tee time (to be included in confirmation letter) in lieu of a “shotgun” start.
6. State Finals Partners (Bowling/Tennis): Participants may substitute a partner if the qualifying partner from local games is unable to attend State Finals. The substitute must have qualified in that event to be eligible to participate in State Finals.
7. Swimming: Participants are limited to 6 swimming events. 25 yard events are not included in this count. 8. Tennis: Participants are required to supply their own racquet. Balls will be provided. 9. Table Tennis: Participants should wear solid colored clothing. No white or multi-colored clothing will be allowed.
Balls will be provided. REMINDER: To promote total health and physical fitness, events of longer durations and lower intensity are strongly recommended. High-intensity types of activities are offered primarily for the conditioned, trained athlete.
National Senior Games is offered every two years for NC State Finals qualifiers. 2018 is a qualifying year for the 2019 National Senior Games to be held in
Albuquerque, New Mexico. For more info, visit nsga.com.
2018 Specific Category Requirements for SilverArts The following are complete rules for SilverArts.
PLEASE NOTE: Requirements UNDERLINED are specific to STATE FINALS and NOT REQUIRED for BCGSG & SA. *All persons entering SilverArts must be 50 years of age or better as of December 31st, a N.C. resident for a minimum of 3
consecutive months of the calendar year, and must qualify through a Local Senior Games SilverArts program for State Finals. *Art entry/entries incorrectly categorized by the artist, or not in compliance with NCSG Guidelines and Requirements, will not be considered in the judging process.
·Performing entries may be one of the following: (a) soloists, (b) small
groups (2 - 4 performers), or (c) large groups (5 or more performers). Accompanist (s) will be counted to determine size of act. No one under age 50 as of Dec. 31st will be permitted on stage and an accompanist must
be a registered participant. · All performers for all acts must enter stage right and exit stage left or
begin and end on the stage. See the SilverArts Manual for a stage diagram. · If recorded music is used, it must be an mp3 file (submitted electronically
or on a flash drive) or a high-quality CD. Music must be sent with State Finals Entry Form and SilverArts Information Form. No recorded instruc-tion is permitted. This should be the only track on the CD/flashdrive or electronic file. Music may be picked up following the performance. It will not be mailed.
·At State Finals, NCSG can provide the following items: chairs, micro-phone(s), piano, and sound system. The act is responsible for all other props and equipment and must get NCSG advance approval for use at Show. Props must be small, few, light-weight and easy to set up quickly.
· Voice presentations must be a live performance by the artist. Background music can be recorded. Lip-synch is not permitted as a
performing art. · The Group Leader, who must be a participant, must complete the Silver-
Arts Information Form for the group and submit it with their State Finals Entry Form, and each member of the group must submit their own per-sonal State Finals Entry Form by the August 1st deadline.
· The performance at State Finals must be the same performance that won at the Local Games; i.e. same song, dance, music, etc.
· No live animals are allowed, except for service animals.
D. Visual Arts · All artwork, except sculpture, must be framed (or gallery wrapped),
securely wired, and ready to be hung (no serrated hooks or string). Art-work, except sculpture, not properly wired will not be displayed.
· Artwork, except sculpture, can be no larger than 36" x 42", including matting and frame. · Entries can be no heavier than 50 pounds. · Sculpture groupings (sets) may have no more than 3 pieces per grouping
(set). · Mixed media may be a freestanding piece. · Photography Film or Digital-determined by the medium on which the
image is recorded. · Freestanding entries must be able to be displayed in an area 3’(W) x 3’ (L)
x 5’ (Height). · Artists, or their representatives, must be able to deliver and pick-up the
entry at/during the designated times. · If on-site assembly is required, details must be specified on the information Form for NCSG prior approval. · The art piece must be an original work, not a print. · Artist's name and title of entry must appear on, or be attached to, entry
for identification. · Artist must send a photograph of entry with State Finals Entry Form and SilverArts Information Form. Photos cannot be returned. · The visual arts piece entered at State Finals must be the same piece that
won at the Local Games.
· An artist may only submit (1) entry per sub-category at State Finals.
A. Heritage Arts · Entries must be the work of the individual and not a group. · Heritage Art entries must be an original work. Patterns may be used, but no stamped pieces will be accepted. · Pottery must be hand built or thrown. · Entries from ceramic molds will not be accepted. · All framed work must be securely wired, ready to be hung
(no serrated hooks or string). Two-dimensional work not properly framed and wired will not be displayed.
· Framed works can be no larger than 36" x 42", including matting and frame. · Entries can be no heavier than 50 pounds. · All entries, except framed work, must be able to be displayed in an area 3'(W) x 3'(L) x 5’(Height). · Groupings (sets) shall have no more than 3 separate pieces per set. All objects within each piece of the set must be contained within or attached to one of the 3 pieces of the set. · Artist's name and title of entry must appear on, or be attached to, entry for identification. · Artist must send a photo of entry with State Finals Entry Form and SilverArts Information Form. Photos cannot be returned. · Artists, or their representatives, must be able to deliver and pick-up the entry at/during the designated times. · The heritage arts piece entered at State Finals must be the same piece that won at the Local Games. · An artist may only submit one (1) entry per sub-category at State Finals.
B. Literary Arts · All entries must be typed, double-spaced, on 8-1/2 x 11 paper and have a minimum of 1” margins. A minimum font size is 10-point type (preferably “times new roman or arial”). · Poems can be no longer than 40 lines. · Short stories, essays, and life experiences can be no longer than 8 pages. · All entries must have a title page, which includes title of work, sub-category, and name of artist. · Artist's name should not appear on the content pages. · A display-quality copy of the winning Literary Arts entries,
and two (2) additional copies, should be submitted to NCSG by the artist with their official State Finals Entry Form and SilverArts Infor-mation Form. No framed or matted entries will be accepted.
· The original and all copies will be retained by NCSG, Inc. · The literary arts piece entered at State Finals must be the same piece that won at the Local Games. · An artist may only submit one (1) entry per sub-category at State Finals
C. Performing Arts · An artist may only have one (1) entry per size of act in each sub-category. · Performing entries are limited to three (3) minutes of on-stage time.
Exceeding the time limit will result in automatic disqualification. Timing is the performer’s responsibility and begins with the first note of music or the first movement visible to the audience and ends with the exit of the last performer from the stage or final movement of the act.
