GENERAL.

Before Installing the Pana40+/194 door safety system the following must be taken in to consideration.

IMP

D 1. Although the Pana40+/194 has excellent penetrating power with regard to dust and dirt etc., it could eventually be triggered by a sufficiently dense cloud of smoke. It is therefore recommended that it be treated similarly to any other optical device under fire service conditions. All optical detectors should be disabled under fire service conditions, and therefore, it is necessary to have appropriate circuitry (nudging) on the controller to bypass the detector and close the doors with an acceptably safe kinetic energy (reduced speed). 2. It is obviously important that the two antennas must have an unobstructed view of each other at all times. This having been said, the alignment of one antenna to the other, is not critical, except when the two edges come into contact. If this is the case, alignment should be within +/-0.5”, otherwise +/-2 or 3 inches is quite acceptable.

3. The Pana40+/194 is designed to have a very high resistance to bright ambient light, however, if one edge is more likely to be brightly lit than the other (such as by bright, early morning sunshine) than it is advisable to fit the transmitter in the more brightly illuminated position.

4. Prior to commencing installation please check the bill of materials to ensure that all the parts required for installation have been supplied.

5. On completion of the installation remove the protective plastic strip on the front of the edges.

I N S T A L L A T I O N

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the installer to ensure that having installed a Avire/Janus safety edge, the completed installation complies with all national and local codes and regulations that pertain

to Infra-red and photo-electric door protection devices.

INTRODUCTION.The standard Pana40+ edge has been designed for door or strike post mounting. For door mounted applications the edge may be mounted either flush with the leading edge of the door, or recessed to protect it against vandalism. If the edge is to be recessed then care should be taken to avoid interference with the clutch.

Fit flat tipped set screws to blocks.

Fit base plate to bottom block using flat tipped set screw (for left hand door).

Fit base plate to bottom block using flat tipped set screw (for right hand door).

Fit the mounting blocks to the edge.

1. Fit flast tipped set screws to the remaining four mounting blocks and tighten them until the tips are almost flush with the surface of the mounting blocks, but not protruding.

2. For handed doors fit the base plate to the bottom mounting block, as shown, using a flat tipped set screw, and tighten to secure.

3. For right handed doors fit the base plate to the bottom mounting block, as shown, using a flat tipped set screw and tighten to secure.

4. Check edge for hand (the groove in the front plastic cover should be on the hoistway door side with the antenna cable at the top). Then fit the five mounting blocks to edge, spaced evenly from the top to the bottom, as shown. Secure ground wire to the door using Tek screw.

Installation continued.

Edge installation complete. Now go to cable installation section.

Space edge from sill and secure with TEK screws through slotted holes to door.

Note: For side opening instal-lations confirm whether there is a pocket in the strike. This will determine where the edge can be mounted on the door. (See strike post installation).

Fit the bondene cover, bearing in mind the cable routing, and secure with TEK screws to door.

5. Alignment is not critical with the Pana40+ edges. Hold the edge against the door, flush or recessed form the leading edge, as required. Ensure that the bottom of the edge is flush with the bottom of the door. An object may be used to support the edge above the sill while securing the edge to the door. Secure the edge to the door, through the slotted holes in the mountings, using the TEK screws supplied. If the correct TEK hex driver is not available, drill 1/8” pilot holes and secure the TEK screws using a flat blade screw driver.

6. Consider the cable routing at this time. The cable can be taken directly from the top of the edge over the top of the clutch or it may be routed to exit from a lower position on the edge (see cable routing section). If the latter is preferred then prior to fitting, a slot should be cut in the bondene cover to allow the cable to exit. Locate the bondene cover in the groove in the plastic cover. The cover should shield all of the mounting blocks, and rest on the base plate fitted to the bottom block. Secure the cover, through the back lip to the door, with 3 TEK screws, one at the top, the middle, and the bottom. If the correct TEK hex driver is not available, drill 1/8” pilot holes and secure the TEK screws using a flat blade screw driver.

INTRODUCTION.The standard Pana40+ edge has been designed for door or strike post mounting. For strike post mounting the edges can be mounted on the surface pf the strike post. If a pocket for the mechanical edge return was provided in the strike post then the edge may be recessed in the pocket. If there is no pocket then the door mounted edge must be recessed by at least 5/8” to prevent the edges from striking each other when the door closes.

Drill 4 holes in the strike post.

Fit the Hex bolts to the edge.

Fit the edge to the strike post.

Secure the edge using custom plastic thumb nuts.

1. Drill four 1/4” holes in the strike post at approximately 4”, 24”, 48”, and 70” from the sill.

2. Slide the Hex bolts into the aluminum channel on the rear of the edge so that they are at the approximate heights of the holes in the strike post.

3. Space the edge from the sill to the same height as the door mounted edge, adjust the posi-tions of the bolts and fit the edge to the strike post.

4. Secure the edge using the cus-tom plastic thumb nuts provided.

Edge installation complete. Now go to cable installation section.

INTRODUCTION.

The slimline Pana40+ edges have been designed for installation to the car door in applications where the running clearance is too narrow for the standard edge, or where the edge is required to be used alongside an existing mechanical safety edge. If the edge is being used alongside a mechanical safety edge then it should be spaced from the door to allow a clear line of sight between the edges.

Space edge from sill and mark the mounting hole positions.

Remove the edge and drill the mounting holes.

Fit the edge and secure with sheet metal screws provided.

1. Alignment is not critical with the Pana40+. Hold the edge against the door, flush or recessed from the leading edge, as required. Ensure that the bottom of the edge is flush with the bottom of the door. An object may be used to support the edge above the sill while marking the position of the mounting holes.

2. With the edge clear of the door, drill 1/8” pilot holes at the marked positions.

3. Secure the edge to the door using the self tapping screws provided.

NOTE: Unless the running clearance is extremely critical the edge should be spaced from the door using plastic spacers provided.

Edge installation complete. Now go to cable installation section.

INTRODUCTION.With any door safety edge the most vulnerable part of the system is the cable as it is subjected to continual flexing during normal operation. The Pana40+ extension cables have been designed specifically for use on elevator doors and have been tested to over 3 million operations for resistance to failure due to flexing. The cables are UL registered for use on elevator doors.

Connect the extension cable to the edge cable and secure to the door.

Route the cable to the controller avoiding any tight bends and sharp edges, and secure in position.

IMPORTANTEnsure that the short edge cable is stationary on the door.

Ensure that there are no tight bends on the cable.

Do not over tighten wire ties as this could damage the cable.

Connect the black cable with blue plugs to the edge cable, ensuring that the arrows on the connectors are aligned, and secure them to the door with the supplied P-clamps fitted on either side of the joint.

Route the extension cable to the controller avoiding any tight bends and sharp edges, securing with wire ties and P-clamps as necessary. Avoid excessive tension on the wire ties as this may damage the cable.

Cable installation complete. Now go to controller installation section.

INTRODUCTION.Before installing the controller on the car top, consideration should be made to the location of the unit. The unit should be mounted in a position where the antenna cables can be easily plugged in, and the 110/240V AC supply and the door operator wires (removed from the original mechanical edge/photo eyes) can be easily routed to the unit.Note: All 840 controllers are set up for 110V AC. Applications that require 240V AC must be specified upon ordering.

MECHANICAL INSTALLATION.Locate a suitable position for the controller on the car top. With controller lid fitted, fasten in place using TEK screws through thefour mounting holes.

STANDARD CONTROLLER WIRING.NOTE: ONLY ONE POWER SOURCE SHOULD BE USED.Damage from incorrect wiring is not covered under warranty. The terminal strip may be removed for easier access. When plugging strip in, care should be taken to ensure correct orientation.

If running from an AC supply- Fit live, neutral and ground connections.

If running from a DC supply - Fit positive, negative and ground con-nections.

1. If running from an AC supply - connect the LIVE wire to the terminal marked ‘L’. Connect the NEUTRAL wire to the terminal marked ‘N’. Connect the GROUND wire to the terminal marked ‘E’. Alternatively the ground may be made by connecting a ground wire from a stud on the rear panel of the unit to the car top. (See picture above).NOTE: Do not work with hot wires.

2. If running from an DC supply - connect the POSITIVE wire to the terminal marked ‘+’. Connect the NEGATIVE wire to the terminal marked ‘-’. Connect the GROUND wire to the terminal marked ‘E’. Standard Controller Set Up.

Set tone on and time-out off.

Apply power and check: Scanning bars should be present.

By obstructing the edges check for correct operation of the system.

1. For Pana40+ installations set the test switch to off.

Note: Pana 194 controllers can be identified by markings on the lid of the control box.

2. Set the tone switch to the ‘ON’ position, and the time out switch to the ‘OFF’ position.

3. Apply power to the unit and check the following: The tone does not sound, the scanning bars are present on the diagnostic display.

Note: if any of the above conditions are not true, refer immediately to the standard fault finding instructions.

4. Place an obstruction between the edges, anywhere from the bottom of the edges to a height of 6 feet. Make certain that the beeper sounds, the relay clicks, and the 0 trigger code is present on the diagnostic display.

Note: If the doors close while the obstruction is in place, and retract when the obstruction is removed, then the door open wires need to be rewired. The N/O connection should become the N/C connection or the N/C connection should become the N/O connection.

NOTE: Do not follow this procedure unless edge, cable, and controller installations are complete

The time out facility is designed to assist in trouble shooting the system. If a fault occurs with the system due to a damaged beam, and a 0 fault code is not present on the diagnostic display, then the failed beams can be determined after a preset time by using this facility.

This facility must remain OFF under normal operation. It is recommended that it is only used for fault location, and for temporarily overcoming a fault prior to obtaining replacement parts and after determining that the system is still providing a safe level of operation.

The time out is now set. If a beam has been damaged, after the time period set, the faulty beam will be ignored and the doors will close. Unblocked beams remain active. Refer to troubleshooting guide on pages 15-16.

Set the time out switch.

Set the time out control pot.

1. Set the time out switch to the ‘ON’ position for a timing period of 10 to 70 seconds.

2. Set the time out control pot (VR1) to the required position. 1=10 seconds, 7=70 seconds.
