FIRE ALARM NOTES: 1. THE SCOPE OF WORK INCLUDES FURNISHING MATERIALS AND LABOR FOR ALL INSTALLATION, PHASING, TESTING AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM AS SHOWN IN THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. THE PROJECT SCOPE INCLUDES: A. INSTALLATION OF FIRE ALARM PANEL. B. INSTALLATION OF REMOTE BOOSTER POWER SUPPLY PANELS, INCLUDING ALL NECESSARY CONDUIT, WIRING, ASSOCIATED HARDWARE AND MATERIAL REQUIRED TO PROPERLY MOUNT THE PANELS AS INDICATED IN THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. C. INSTALLATION OF FIRE ALARM INITIATION DEVICES IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72, AS INDICATED IN THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, INCLUDING ALL CONDUIT, WIRING AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE. MANUAL PULL STATIONS ARE GENERALLY LOCATED IN THE PATH(S) OF EGRESS AND EXTERIOR EXITING DOORS. D. INSTALLATION OF FIRE ALARM NOTIFICATION DEVICES THROUGHOUT THE FACILITY AS INDICATED IN THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, INCLUDING ALL NECESSARY CONDUIT, WIRING AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE. FIRE ALARM NOTIFICATION DEVICES SHALL BE INSTALLED PER NFPA 72. FIRE ALARM NOTIFICATION DEVICES LOCATED WITHIN OFFICE OR SHELTERED SPACES ON EACH LEVEL, SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH THE BOTTOM OF THE STROBE LENS LOCATED AT 84 INCHES ABOVE THE FINISHED FLOOR. FIRE ALARM NOTIFICATION DEVICES LOCATED WITHIN THE WAREHOUSE SPACE, SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH THE TOP OF THE STROBE LENS LOCATED AT 90 INCHES ABOVE THE FINISHED FLOOR. DEPENDING ON NOTIFICATION DEVICE MANUFACTURER, THE HEIGHTS INDICATED ARE NOT THE MOUNTING HEIGHTS OF THE DEVICE ELECTRICAL BACKBOX. E. COORDINATION FOR NECESSARY 120 VAC DEDICATED CIRCUITS FOR POWER TO ALL ASSOCIATED FIRE ALARM SYSTEM PANELS AND SUPPORTING PANELS. F. INSTALLATION OF CIRCUITS FOR FIELD DEVICES AND SYSTEMS INTERFACES, PROGRAMMING, TESTING AND ACCEPTANCE FOR A COMPLETE AND OPERATIONAL FIRE ALARM SYSTEM. 2. THE PROJECT SHALL BE BASED ON THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE FOLLOWING CODES, STANDARDS, TESTING LABORATORIES AND UNDERWRITING AGENCIES: A. PHILADELPHIA UNIFORM CONSTRUCTION CODE (AMENDED INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE 2018 EDITION). B. 2018 CITY OF PHILADELPHIA BUILDING CODE (INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE 2018 AS AMENDED) C. 2018 CITY OF PHILADELPHIA FIRE CODE (INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE 2018 AS AMENDED). D. 2015 CITY OF PHILADELPHIA MECHANICAL CODE. E. NFPA 70, NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE 2017 EDITION. F. NFPA 72, NATIONAL FIRE ALARM AND SIGNALING CODE 2018 EDITION. G. ADAAG, ADA ACCESSIBILITY GUIDELINES FOR BUILDNGS AND FACILITIES, 2012 EDITION. H. UL LISTED PRODUCTS FOR FIRE ALARM USE CONSIDERING ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS. I. MANUFACTURER'S INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. J. PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS 3. AREA SMOKE DETECTION PER NFPA 72 SHALL COVER EACH MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT ROOM, EACH TELEPHONE / COMMUNICATIONS / LAN CLOSET, EACH ROOM CONTAINING FIRE ALARM CONTROL CABINETS AND THE TOP OF EACH STAIRWAY. 4. DUCT SMOKE DETECTION SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72 IN ALL HVAC SUPPLY UNITS IN EXCESS OF 2,000 CFM CAPACITY, ALL HVAC RETURN UNITS IN EXCESS OF 2,000 CFM CAPACITY, AT ALL FLOOR RETURN DUCTS / ENTRY TO RETURN SHAFT (EACH SHAFT / EACH FLOOR), WITHIN 5 FEET OF FIRE / SMOKE DAPERS, WHERE DUCT PASSES THROUGH REQUIRED SMOKE BARRIER AND WHERE DUCT / HVAC SYSTEM SERVES MULTIPLE SMOKE ZONES. 5. ADDRESSABLE INPUT MODULES (AIM) SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72 AT EACH WATERFLOW & TAMPER DEVICE (PROVIDED BY FIRE PROTECTION), AT EACH DRY - PIPE SYSTEMS FOR WATERFLOW, TAMPER, PRESSURE SWITCH/STATUS, AT EACH CLEAN AGENT SYSTEM FOR ALARM, TROUBLE & SUPERVISORY/STATUS, AT FIRE PUMP FOR PUMP RUN, PUMP FAIL TO START, PUMP LOW FUEL STATUS, AT REQUIRED HVAC CONTROLLERS TO INITIATE DIRECT FAN SHUTDOWN, AT FIRE/SMOKE DOOR RELEASE SYSTEMS, AT FIRE/SMOKE DAMPERS, AT SECURITY FAIL - SAFE DOOR SYSTEMS & STAIRWAY RE - ENTRY SYSTEM, AT BUILDING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR ADDITIONAL RELATED STATUS. 6. ADA COMPLIANT 75 CANDELA (MINIMUM) STROBES SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72 IN MECHANICAL ROOMS, WITHIN 10 FEET OF EACH EXIT ON EACH FLOOR, IN ALL TOILETS, CONFERENCE ROOMS, LOCKER ROOMS, WAITING AREAS, COPY/FILE ROOMS, PANTRIES, IN ALL COMMON AREAS IN EXCESS OF 1,000 SQFT, WITHIN 15 FEET OF THE END OF EVERY CORRIDOR (ADA/NFPA/ANSI) WITH 100 FEET MAXIMUM SPACING BETWEEN APPLIANCES (ADA/NFPA/ANSI), PROVIDE COMBINATION DEVICES AS SHOWN ON CONTRACT DRAWINGS. 7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DETERMINING THE EXACT CIRCUIT TIE - IN LOCATIONS, IN THE EVENT THAT THE CIRCUIT IS TO BE EXTENDED. LOCATIONS AND POINTS SHOWN ON THE PLANS ARE DIAGRAMMATICAL AND FOR REFERENCE ONLY. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SHOW THE FINAL INFORMATION ON THE SHOP DRAWINGS AND INSTALLATION SHALL NOT BEGIN UNTIL THESE PLANS ARE APPROVED. 8. THE FIRE ALARM CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE THE INSTALLATION OF ALL DEVICES WITH OTHER TRADES AND FIELD CONDITIONS AS PART OF THIS CONTRACT. 9. ALL WIRING SHALL COMPLY WITH PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS, AND ALL LOCAL AND NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODES. 10. SUBSTITUTIONS OF TYPE FIRE POWER LIMITED PLENUM (FPLP) OR CERTIFIED FIRE ALARM CABLES SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED. 11. ALL WIRE AND CABLE SHALL HAVE A WIRE MARKER ON EACH END, BRADY OR EQUAL. ALL MARKERS SHALL BE TYPED. 12. SHIELDS ON ALL SHIELDED CABLE SHALL BE CONTINUOUS, GROUNDED AT THE FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL ONLY, AND ISOLATED FROM GROUND ELSEWHERE. NON - POWER LIMITED FIRE ALARM (NPLFA) CIRCUIT CONDUCTORS INSULATION SHALL BE SUITABLE FOR 600 VOLTS. MULTI - CONDUCTOR NPLFA CIRCUIT CABLES, TYPES NON - POWER LIMITED FIRE PLENUM (NPLFP), NON - POWER LIMITED FIRE RISER (NPLFR), AND NON - POWER LIMITED SIGNALING FIRE ALARM CABLINING (NPLF), SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED EXPOSED IN DUCTS, PLENUMS OR HOISTWAYS (SHAFTS). 13. NON - POWER LIMITED FIRE ALARM (NPLFA) CIRCUIT CONDUCTORS INSULATION SHALL BE SUITABLE FOR 600 VOLTS. MULTI - CONDUCTOR NPLFA CIRCUIT CABLES, TYPES NPLFP, NPLFR, AND NPLF, SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED EXPOSED IN DUCTS, PLENUMS OR HOISTWAYS (SHAFTS). 14. INSTALLATION OF FIRE ALARM SYSTEM RACEWAYS, BOXES, ENCLOSURES, CABINETS, AND WIRING SHALL CONFORM TO THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS: A. COVERS OF BOXES, ENCLOSURES AND CABINETS SHALL BE PAINTED RED AND PERMANENTLY IDENTIFIED AS TO USE. B. PENETRATIONS THROUGH RATED WALLS, CEILINGS AND FLOORS SHALL BE PROPERLY FIRE STOPPED. C. RACEWAYS OR WIRING SHALL NOT PENETRATE THE TOP OF ANY CONTROL EQUIPMENT CABINET OR ENCLOSURE. D. RACEWAYS INSTALLED UP TO 8 FT. IN STAIRWAYS SHALL NOT REDUCE OR OBSTRUCT REQUIRED STAIRWAY RADIUS OR EGRESS PATH. E. CABLES SHALL BE SECURED BY CABLE TIES, STRAPS OR SIMILAR FITTINGS DESIGNED AND INSTALLED SO AS NOT TO DAMAGE THE CABLES. SUCH FITTINGS SHALL BE SECURED IN PLACE AT INTERVALS NOT EXCEEDING 5 - FT ON CENTER AND WITHIN 1 - FT OF ASSOCIATED CABINET OR BOX. F. JUNCTION BOXES SHALL BE PROPERLY LABELED "FIRE ALARM JUNCTION BOX" PER SPECIFICATIONS. 15. ALL FIRE ALARM SYSTEM NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES SHALL BE SYNCHRONIZED PER NFPA 72. ALL HARDWARE, EQUIPMENT, PANEL MODIFICATIONS AND LABOR NECESSARY TO PERFORM SYNCHRONIZATION SHALL BE PART OF THIS CONTRACT. 17. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM VISUAL NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES SHALL BE SET TO THE CANDELA RATING ASSIGNED ON IN CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, AS A BASE SETTING. CANDELA SETTINGS MAY BE ADJUSTED IN THE FIELD AS PART OF ACCEPTANCE TESTING FOR COVERAGE. 18. MINIMUM DECIBEL AMBIENT RATING WITHIN OFFICE AND SHELTERD SPACES, OTHER THAN THE WAREHOUSE SHALL BE 55db. MINIMUM DECIBEL AMBIENT RATING WITHIN THE BODY OF THE WAREHOUSE SPACE(S) SHALL BE 70db. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM AUDIBLE NOTIFICATION DEVICES SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 15db ABOVE AMBIENT LEVELS. 19. CIRCUIT MODIFICATIONS, TERMINATIONS AND SPLICES SHALL BE MADE WITH TERMINAL BLOCKS AND IN LISTED FITTINGS, BOXES, ENCLOSURES, FIRE ALARM DEVICES OR UTILIZATION EQIPMENT. SPLICES SHALL BE LIMITED TO LOCATIONS WHERE THE CONDITIONS OF INSTALLATION REQUIRE THE USE OF SPLICES. SPLICES AND TERMINATIONS IN RISER CABLES ARE PROHIBITED EXCEPT WHERE MADE IN FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT TERMINAL CABINETS. MECHANICAL CONNECTIONS LISTED UNDER UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES ("UL") 486 - 03, A & C SHALL BE USED FOR THE CONDUCTORS, OR IF SOLDERED, FIRST JOINED SO AS TO BE MECHANICALLY AND ELECTRICALLY SECURE PRIOR TO SOLDERING. TEMPERATURE RATING OF THE COMPLETED SPLICES SHALL EQUAL OR EXCEED THE TEMPERATURE RATING OF THE HIGHEST RATED CONDUCTOR. 20. FIRE ALARM CONDUITS SHALL BE LABELED AND IDENTIFIED PER THE PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS. ALL JUNCTION BOX COVERS SHALL BE PAINTED RED AND LABELED "FA". "EXPOSED" FIRE ALARM CONDUIT IN SPACES OTHER THAN WITHIN THE WAREHOUSE, SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH FINISHES. 21. INSTALLATION SHALL NOT BEGIN WITHOUT APPROVAL OF THE FIRE ALARM SHOP DRAWINGS BY THE ENGINEER. REFER TO THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR REQUIREMENTS. 22. IN THE EVENT THAT A DEVICE IS LOCATED ON A SURFACE THAT IS UNSUITABLE FOR PROPER MOUNTING, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER DURING THE SHOP DRAWINGS PHASE FOR APPROVAL OF AN ALTERNATE LOCATION. THIS NOTIFICATION SHALL OCCUR PRIOR TO INSTALLATION FOR CONDUIT AND JUNCTION BOX ROUGH - IN. 23. POWER - LIMITED FIRE ALARM CIRCUIT CABLES AND CONDUCTORS SHALL NOT BE PLACED IN ANY CABLE, CABLE TRAY, COMPARTMENT, ENCLOSURE, MANHOLE, OUTLET BOX, DEVICE BOX, RACEWAY, OR SIMILAR FITTING WITH CONDUCTORS OF ELECTRIC LIGHT, POWER, CLASS 1, NON - POWER - LIMITED FIRE ALARM CIRCUITS, AND MEDIUM - POWER NETWORK - POWERED BROADBAND COMMUNICATIONS CIRCUITS. 24. THE SYSTEM WILL REPORT THE DATE, TIME, DEVICE TYPE, DEVICE ID, LOCATION AND TYPE OF ALARM(S) THAT ARE RECEIVED. THE REMOTE ANNUNCIATOR PANEL WILL INCLUDE REMOTE STATUS ZONE ALARM INDICATION AND TROUBLE SIGNALS AND WILL INCLUDE A STRIP PRINTER. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM POWER SHALL BE DERIVED FROM A DEDICATED BRANCH CIRCUIT OF THE MAIN ELECTRICAL SERVICE. THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL HAVE AS THE SECONDARY POWER, BATTERY BACKUP SIZED FOR 24 HOURS OF SUPERVISORY FOLLOWED BY 45 MINUTES OF FULL SYSTEM ALARM. ALL WORK SHALL BE COMPLETE (INCLUDING TESTING AND FINAL APPROVAL BY AHJ) IN ACCORDANCE WITH MASTER SCHEDULE. FIRE ALARM WORK SHALL COMMENCE IN THE FOLLOWING PHASES: 1. SHOP DRAWING SUBMITTAL: DEVELOP AND COORDINATE SHOP DRAWINGS FOR APPROVAL BY THE ENGINEER. 2. SYSTEM INSTALLATION: UPON APPROVAL OF SHOP DRAWINGS PERFORM INSTALLATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH MASTER SCHEDULE AND COORDINATE INSTALLATION WITH ALL OTHER TRADES. 3. FINAL INSPECTION: UPON COMPLETION OF ACCEPTANCE TESTING CONTRACTOR SHALL REQUEST, COORDINATE AND PERFORM ALL NECESSARY INSPECTIONS WITH ALL OTHER TRADES AND PHILAPORT NECESSARY FOR A SUCCESSFUL INSPECTION. ADDITIONAL INSPECTIONS DUE TO CONTRACTOR ERROR SHALL BE PERFORMED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO MASSPORT. 4. CLOSEOUT DOCUMENTS: SUBMIT ALL REQUIRED CLOSEOUT DOCUMENTATION TO THE ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL. FIRE ALARM PHASING NOTES: GENERAL NOTES: 1. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL REGULATIONS & LAWS OF AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION. 2. ALL MATERIALS, MEANS AND METHODS SHALL COMPLY WITH APPLICABLE CODES, ORDINANCES, REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS. 3. CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM A SITE SURVEY TO VERIFY ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS AND NOTIFY THE ENGINEER AT ONCE OF ANY DISCREPANCIES. 4. EACH CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW PROJECT DOCUMENTS OF ALL TRADES FOR A THOROUGH UNDERSTANDING OF PROJECT AND ANY CROSS REFERENCING OF WORK. REVIEW ALL PROJECT REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO BIDDING. DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN DOCUMENTS SHALL BE REPORTED TO THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO BIDDING. IN THE CASE OF ANY DISCREPANCIES, THE MOST STRINGENT REQUIREMENT SHALL GOVERN. 5. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS AND REFUSE ON A DAILY BASIS. 8. ALL PENETRATIONS, THROUGH DESIGNATED FIRE RATED WALLS, CEILINGS AND FLOOR SLABS SHALL BE PROPERLY SEALED WITH AN APPROVED RATED FIRE STOPPING MATERIAL. ALL FIRE STOPPING MATERIAL SHALL BE SUPPLIED AND WORK PERFORMED AS PER PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS AND MANUFACTURERS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. 10. CONTRACTOR SHALL REPLACE IN - KIND ANY EQUIPMENT OR ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS DAMAGED BY WORK OF THIS PROJECT AT NO ADDITIONAL COSTS. 11. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLETE ALL CUTTING AND PATCHING REQUIRED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE WORK. CUTTING AND PATCHING SHALL BE COMPLETED IN A NEAT AND WORKMANLIKE MANNER. PATCHING MATERIALS SHALL MATCH MATERIALS TO THE GREATEST EXTENT POSSIBLE. PROVIDE TOUCH UP PAINT AS REQUIRED TO MATCH PAINT FINISH AND COLOR OF ADJACENT AREAS. CONTRACTOR SHALL SALVAGE MATERIALS FOR RE - USE IN AREAS WHERE SUBSTRATES / SURFACES ARE TO BE PATCHED/REPAIRED (I.E. TILES, WALLS, CEILING TILE). 12. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL GUARANTEE THE ENTIRE INSTALLATION FOR A MINIMUM PERIOD OF ONE YEAR (EXCEPT WHERE EXTENSIONS OF THIS ONE YEAR PERIOD ARE NOTED) FROM THE DATE OF BENEFICIAL USE AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE SYSTEM AS A WHOLE. ANY DEFECTS IN WORKMANSHIP, MATERIALS, MALFUNCTION OF EQUIPMENT OR UNSATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND ALL OTHER WORK OR PARTS OF THE BUILDING DAMAGED THEREBY, AS A RESULT OF WORK OF THE PROJECT BY THE CONTRACTOR, SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR. CONTRACTOR SHALL PAY ALL REPAIR COSTS ACCORDINGLY. 13. IN ADDITION TO SPECIFICATIONS, AS MAY BE DEFINED HEREAFTER, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROTECT THE WORK SITE AND ALL HIS OR HER WORK AGAINST ANY DAMAGE UNTIL FINAL COMPLETION AND ACCEPTANCE BY THE OWNER. 14. PRIOR TO DELIVERY OF ANY MATERIALS TO THE SITE, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS FOR ALL ITEMS AND MATERIALS USED IN THE WORK TO THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR. 16. PERCUSSIVE FASTENING SYSTEMS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO POWDER, GAS AND PNEUMATIC ACTUATED ANCHORS, WILL NOT BE PERMITTED ANYWHERE ON THE PROJECT. PRIOR TO ACCEPTANCE OF THE SPACE, ALL SYSTEMS SHALL BE INSPECTED, TESTED AND OPERATED TO DEMONSTRATE TO THE OWNER, OR HIS DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE, THAT THE INSTALLATION AND PERFORMANCE OF THESE SYSTEMS AND/OR PARTS THEREOF CONFORM TO THE DESIGN INTENT. 18. THE BUILDING IS A WORK OF A COMPLEX NATURE WHICH WILL REQUIRE ACCURATE PLANNING, CAREFUL PREPARATION AND EXECUTION. ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND CLOSE SUPERVISION BY THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE A REQUIREMENT. DUCT SMOKE DETECTION SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72 IN ALL HVAC SUPPLY UNITS IN EXCESS OF 2,000 CFM CAPACITY, ALL HVAC RETURN UNITS IN EXCESS OF 2,000 CFM CAPACITY, AT ALL FLOOR RETURN DUCTS / ENTRY TO RETURN SHAFT (EACH SHAFT / EACH FLOOR), WITHIN 5 FEET OF FIRE / SMOKE DAPERS, WHERE DUCT PASSES THROUGH REQUIRED SMOKE BARRIER AND WHERE DUCT / HVAC SYSTEM SERVES MULTIPLE SMOKE ZONES.

    5. ADDRESSABLE INPUT MODULES (AIM) SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72 AT EACH WATERFLOW & TAMPER DEVICE (PROVIDED BY FIRE PROTECTION), AT EACH DRY-PIPE SYSTEMS FOR WATERFLOW, TAMPER, PRESSURE SWITCH/STATUS, AT EACH CLEAN AGENT SYSTEM FOR ALARM, TROUBLE & SUPERVISORY/STATUS, AT FIRE PUMP FOR PUMP RUN, PUMP FAIL TO START, PUMP LOW FUEL STATUS, AT REQUIRED HVAC CONTROLLERS TO INITIATE DIRECT FAN SHUTDOWN, AT FIRE/SMOKE DOOR RELEASE SYSTEMS, AT FIRE/SMOKE DAMPERS, AT SECURITY FAIL-SAFE DOOR SYSTEMS & STAIRWAY RE-ENTRY SYSTEM, AT BUILDING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR ADDITIONAL RELATED STATUS.

    6. ADA COMPLIANT 75 CANDELA (MINIMUM) STROBES SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72 IN MECHANICAL ROOMS, WITHIN 10 FEET OF EACH EXIT ON EACH FLOOR, IN ALL TOILETS, CONFERENCE ROOMS, LOCKER ROOMS, WAITING AREAS, COPY/FILE ROOMS, PANTRIES, IN ALL COMMON AREAS IN EXCESS OF 1,000 SQFT, WITHIN 15 FEET OF THE END OF EVERY CORRIDOR (ADA/NFPA/ANSI) WITH 100 FEET MAXIMUM SPACING BETWEEN APPLIANCES (ADA/NFPA/ANSI), PROVIDE COMBINATION DEVICES AS SHOWN ON CONTRACT DRAWINGS.

    7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DETERMINING THE EXACT CIRCUIT TIE-IN LOCATIONS, IN THE EVENT THAT THE CIRCUIT IS TO BE EXTENDED. LOCATIONS AND POINTS SHOWN ON THE PLANS ARE DIAGRAMMATICAL AND FOR REFERENCE ONLY. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SHOW THE FINAL INFORMATION ON THE SHOP DRAWINGS AND INSTALLATION SHALL NOT BEGIN UNTIL THESE PLANS ARE APPROVED.

    8. THE FIRE ALARM CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE THE INSTALLATION OF ALL DEVICES WITH OTHER TRADES AND FIELD CONDITIONS AS PART OF THIS CONTRACT.

    9. ALL WIRING SHALL COMPLY WITH PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS, AND ALL LOCAL AND NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODES.

    10. SUBSTITUTIONS OF TYPE FIRE POWER LIMITED PLENUM (FPLP) OR CERTIFIED FIRE ALARM CABLES SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED.

    11. ALL WIRE AND CABLE SHALL HAVE A WIRE MARKER ON EACH END, BRADY OR EQUAL. ALL MARKERS SHALL BE TYPED.

    12. SHIELDS ON ALL SHIELDED CABLE SHALL BE CONTINUOUS, GROUNDED AT THE FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL ONLY, AND ISOLATED FROM GROUND ELSEWHERE. NON-POWER LIMITED FIRE ALARM (NPLFA) CIRCUIT CONDUCTORS INSULATION SHALL BE SUITABLE FOR 600 VOLTS. MULTI-CONDUCTOR NPLFA CIRCUIT CABLES, TYPES NON-POWER LIMITED FIRE PLENUM (NPLFP), NON-POWER LIMITED FIRE RISER (NPLFR), AND NON-POWER LIMITED SIGNALING FIRE ALARM CABLINING (NPLF), SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED EXPOSED IN DUCTS, PLENUMS OR HOISTWAYS (SHAFTS).

    13. NON-POWER LIMITED FIRE ALARM (NPLFA) CIRCUIT CONDUCTORS INSULATION SHALL BE SUITABLE FOR 600 VOLTS. MULTI-CONDUCTOR NPLFA CIRCUIT CABLES, TYPES NPLFP, NPLFR, AND NPLF, SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED EXPOSED IN DUCTS, PLENUMS OR HOISTWAYS (SHAFTS).

    14. INSTALLATION OF FIRE ALARM SYSTEM RACEWAYS, BOXES, ENCLOSURES, CABINETS, AND WIRING SHALL CONFORM TO THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:A. COVERS OF BOXES, ENCLOSURES AND CABINETS SHALL BE PAINTED RED AND PERMANENTLY

    IDENTIFIED AS TO USE.B. PENETRATIONS THROUGH RATED WALLS, CEILINGS AND FLOORS SHALL BE PROPERLY FIRE

    STOPPED.C. RACEWAYS OR WIRING SHALL NOT PENETRATE THE TOP OF ANY CONTROL EQUIPMENT CABINET

    OR ENCLOSURE.D. RACEWAYS INSTALLED UP TO 8 FT. IN STAIRWAYS SHALL NOT REDUCE OR OBSTRUCT REQUIRED

    15. ALL FIRE ALARM SYSTEM NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES SHALL BE SYNCHRONIZED PER NFPA 72. ALL

    HARDWARE, EQUIPMENT, PANEL MODIFICATIONS AND LABOR NECESSARY TO PERFORM SYNCHRONIZATION SHALL BE PART OF THIS CONTRACT.

    17. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM VISUAL NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES SHALL BE SET TO THE CANDELA RATING ASSIGNED ON IN CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, AS A BASE SETTING. CANDELA SETTINGS MAY BE ADJUSTED IN THE FIELD AS PART OF ACCEPTANCE TESTING FOR COVERAGE.

    18. MINIMUM DECIBEL AMBIENT RATING WITHIN OFFICE AND SHELTERD SPACES, OTHER THAN THE WAREHOUSE SHALL BE 55db. MINIMUM DECIBEL AMBIENT RATING WITHIN THE BODY OF THE WAREHOUSE SPACE(S) SHALL BE 70db. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM AUDIBLE NOTIFICATION DEVICES SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 15db ABOVE AMBIENT LEVELS.

    19. CIRCUIT MODIFICATIONS, TERMINATIONS AND SPLICES SHALL BE MADE WITH TERMINAL BLOCKS AND IN LISTED FITTINGS, BOXES, ENCLOSURES, FIRE ALARM DEVICES OR UTILIZATION EQIPMENT. SPLICES SHALL BE LIMITED TO LOCATIONS WHERE THE CONDITIONS OF INSTALLATION REQUIRE THE USE OF SPLICES. SPLICES AND TERMINATIONS IN RISER CABLES ARE PROHIBITED EXCEPT WHERE MADE IN FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT TERMINAL CABINETS. MECHANICAL CONNECTIONS LISTED UNDER UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES ("UL") 486-03, A & C SHALL BE USED FOR THE CONDUCTORS, OR IF SOLDERED, FIRST JOINED SO AS TO BE MECHANICALLY AND ELECTRICALLY SECURE PRIOR TO SOLDERING. TEMPERATURE RATING OF THE COMPLETED SPLICES SHALL EQUAL OR EXCEED THE TEMPERATURE RATING OF THE HIGHEST RATED CONDUCTOR.

    20. FIRE ALARM CONDUITS SHALL BE LABELED AND IDENTIFIED PER THE PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS. ALL JUNCTION BOX COVERS SHALL BE PAINTED RED AND LABELED "FA". "EXPOSED" FIRE ALARM CONDUIT IN SPACES OTHER THAN WITHIN THE WAREHOUSE, SHALL BE PAINTED TO MATCH FINISHES.

    21. INSTALLATION SHALL NOT BEGIN WITHOUT APPROVAL OF THE FIRE ALARM SHOP DRAWINGS BY THEENGINEER. REFER TO THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR REQUIREMENTS.

    22. IN THE EVENT THAT A DEVICE IS LOCATED ON A SURFACE THAT IS UNSUITABLE FOR PROPER MOUNTING, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER DURING THE SHOP DRAWINGS PHASE FOR APPROVAL OF AN ALTERNATE LOCATION. THIS NOTIFICATION SHALL OCCUR PRIOR TO INSTALLATION FOR CONDUIT AND JUNCTION BOX ROUGH-IN.

    23. POWER-LIMITED FIRE ALARM CIRCUIT CABLES AND CONDUCTORS SHALL NOT BE PLACED IN ANY CABLE, CABLE TRAY, COMPARTMENT, ENCLOSURE, MANHOLE, OUTLET BOX, DEVICE BOX, RACEWAY, OR SIMILAR FITTING WITH CONDUCTORS OF ELECTRIC LIGHT, POWER, CLASS 1, NON-POWER-LIMITED FIRE ALARM CIRCUITS, AND MEDIUM-POWER NETWORK-POWERED BROADBAND COMMUNICATIONS CIRCUITS.

    FIRE ALARM WIRING CHART:

    COMBINATION HORN/STROBE CIRCUITS

    THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COORDINATING THEIR SCHEDULE WITH THE MASTER PROJECT AND COMMISSIONING SCHEDULE. THE SCHEDULE SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH ALL OTHER TRADES AND SUBMITTED TO THE GENRERAL CONTRACTOR OR DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE EVERY TWO WEEKS. ALL CONTRACTORS SHALL BEAR THE COST OF ANY SCOPE IMPACTS CAUSED BY CHANGES TO THE MASTER PROJECT SCHEDULE.     3. FINAL INSPECTION: UPON COMPLETION OF ACCEPTANCE TESTING CONTRACTOR SHALL REQUEST, COORDINATE AND PERFORM ALL NECESSARY INSPECTIONS WITH ALL OTHER TRADES AND PHILAPORT NECESSARY FOR A SUCCESSFUL INSPECTION. ADDITIONAL INSPECTIONS DUE TO CONTRACTOR ERROR SHALL BE PERFORMED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO MASSPORT.

    4. CLOSEOUT DOCUMENTS:SUBMIT ALL REQUIRED CLOSEOUT DOCUMENTATION TO THE ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL.

    FIRE ALARM PHASING NOTES:

    GENERAL NOTES:

    1. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL REGULATIONS & LAWS OF AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION.

    2. ALL MATERIALS, MEANS AND METHODS SHALL COMPLY WITH APPLICABLE CODES, ORDINANCES, REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS.

    3. CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM A SITE SURVEY TO VERIFY ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS AND NOTIFY THE ENGINEER AT ONCE OF ANY DISCREPANCIES.

    4. EACH CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW PROJECT DOCUMENTS OF ALL TRADES FOR A THOROUGH UNDERSTANDING OF PROJECT AND ANY CROSS REFERENCING OF WORK. REVIEW ALL PROJECT REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO BIDDING. DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN DOCUMENTS SHALL BE REPORTED TO THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO BIDDING. IN THE CASE OF ANY DISCREPANCIES, THE MOST STRINGENT REQUIREMENT SHALL GOVERN.

    5. ALL CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC SHALL ENTER AND EXIT THE PROJECT AREA THROUGH DESIGNATED ACCESS POINTS AS DETERMINED BY THE OWNER OR THEIR DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE.

    6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED ANY STORAGE AREA OTHER THAN THAT AVAILABLE WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE STAGING AREA OR CONFINES OF THE WORK AREA.

    7. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS AND REFUSE ON A DAILY BASIS.

    8. A COPY OF THE CURRENT SET OF CONTRACT DOCUMENTS (WITH AS-BUILT INFORMATION) SHALL BE KEPT AT THE JOB SITE AT ALL TIMES BY THE CONTRACTOR.

    9. ALL PENETRATIONS, THROUGH DESIGNATED FIRE RATED WALLS, CEILINGS AND FLOOR SLABS SHALL BE PROPERLY SEALED WITH AN APPROVED RATED FIRE STOPPING MATERIAL. ALL FIRE STOPPING MATERIAL SHALL BE SUPPLIED AND WORK PERFORMED AS PER PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS AND MANUFACTURERS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.

    10. CONTRACTOR SHALL REPLACE IN-KIND ANY EQUIPMENT OR ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS DAMAGED BY WORK OF THIS PROJECT AT NO ADDITIONAL COSTS.

    11. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLETE ALL CUTTING AND PATCHING REQUIRED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE WORK. CUTTING AND PATCHING SHALL BE COMPLETED IN A NEAT AND WORKMANLIKE MANNER. PATCHING MATERIALS SHALL MATCH MATERIALS TO THE GREATEST EXTENT POSSIBLE. PROVIDE TOUCH UP PAINT AS REQUIRED TO MATCH PAINT FINISH AND COLOR OF ADJACENT AREAS. CONTRACTOR SHALL SALVAGE MATERIALS FOR RE-USE IN AREAS WHERE SUBSTRATES / SURFACES ARE TO BE PATCHED/REPAIRED (I.E. TILES, WALLS, CEILING TILE).

    12. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL GUARANTEE THE ENTIRE INSTALLATION FOR A MINIMUM PERIOD OF ONE YEAR (EXCEPT WHERE EXTENSIONS OF THIS ONE YEAR PERIOD ARE NOTED) FROM THE DATE OF BENEFICIAL USE AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE SYSTEM AS A WHOLE. ANY DEFECTS IN WORKMANSHIP, MATERIALS, MALFUNCTION OF EQUIPMENT OR UNSATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND ALL OTHER WORK OR PARTS OF THE BUILDING DAMAGED THEREBY, AS A RESULT OF WORK OF THE PROJECT BY THE CONTRACTOR, SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR. CONTRACTOR SHALL PAY ALL REPAIR COSTS ACCORDINGLY.

    13. IN ADDITION TO SPECIFICATIONS, AS MAY BE DEFINED HEREAFTER, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROTECT THE WORK SITE AND ALL HIS OR HER WORK AGAINST ANY DAMAGE UNTIL FINAL COMPLETION AND ACCEPTANCE BY THE OWNER.

    14. CONTRACTOR SHALL, UPON COMPLETION OF THE WORK, SUBMIT AS-BUILT RECORD DRAWINGS SHOWING ALL CHANGES FROM THE CONTRACT DRAWING MADE IN THE INSTALLATION, AND SHOWING DIMENSION LOCATIONS OF CONCEALED EQUIPMENT.

    15. PRIOR TO DELIVERY OF ANY MATERIALS TO THE SITE, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS FOR ALL ITEMS AND MATERIALS USED IN THE WORK TO THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR.

    16. PERCUSSIVE FASTENING SYSTEMS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO POWDER, GAS AND PNEUMATIC ACTUATED ANCHORS, WILL NOT BE PERMITTED ANYWHERE ON THE PROJECT. CONTRACTORS ARE PERMITTED TO USE MECHANICAL TYPE UNISTRUT FASTENING DEVICES ONLY.

    17. PRIOR TO ACCEPTANCE OF THE SPACE, ALL SYSTEMS SHALL BE INSPECTED, TESTED AND OPERATED TO DEMONSTRATE TO THE OWNER, OR HIS DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE, THAT THE INSTALLATION AND PERFORMANCE OF THESE SYSTEMS AND/OR PARTS THEREOF CONFORM TO THE DESIGN INTENT.

    18. THE BUILDING IS A WORK OF A COMPLEX NATURE WHICH WILL REQUIRE ACCURATE PLANNING, CAREFUL PREPARATION AND EXECUTION. ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND CLOSE SUPERVISION BY THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE A REQUIREMENT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE REQUIRED TO DO THIS WORK IN FULL COOPERATION WITH ALL CONSTRUCTION TRADES AND SUBJECT TO SCHEDULING ARRANGED TO MINIMIZE DISRUPTION OF NORMAL ACTIVITIES FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE BUILDING.

    19. JUNCTION BOXES, VALVES, DAMPERS, OR ANY CONCEALED EQUIPMENT REQUIRING ACCESS SHALL ONLY BE PERMITTED / LOCATED IN ACCESSIBLE TYPE AREAS (I.E. LAY-IN TYPE CEILING, ETC.) OR SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH ACCESS PANELS.

    20. WHERE UTILITIES AND/OR SERVICES REQUIRE SHUTDOWN FOR THE WORK TO BE PERFORMED, NOTIFY THE PORT AUTHORITY PROJECT ENGINEER. REQUESTS FOR UTILITY AND/OR SERVICES SHUTDOWNS SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE PORT AUTHORITY PROJECT ENGINEER, IN WRITING, A MINIMUM OF ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED SHUTDOWN.

    21. ALL PAINT SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE NFPA FOR FLAME SPREAD AND SMOKE DENSITY. PAINT PROCESS SHALL MEET ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS FOR VENTILATION AS ESTABLISHED BY OSHA. ALL PAINTS, SOLVENTS, RAGS AND OTHER PAINTING REFUSE SHALL BE DISPOSED OF PROPERLY OFF SITE IN ACCORDING TO STATE AND FEDERAL ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS. EVIDENCE OF SUCH COMPLIANCE SHALL BE FURNISHED TO THE OWNER PRIOR TO THE START OF PAINTING WORK.

    1. THE SPEAKER STROBE UNIT ATTACHES DIRECTLY TO A STANDARD 4" SQ., ELECTRICAL BOX (NOT SUPPLIED), SEMI-FLUSH OR SURFACE MOUNTED.

    2. THERE ARE TWO (2) HOLES FOR ELECTRICAL BOX MOUNTING. SECURE THE HOUSING TO SINGLE-GANG BOX USING 2 MOUNTING SCREWS (#6/32-INCH x 1 1/8-INCH LONG SUPPLIED) LINE THE MOUNTING TABS OF THE STROBE UNIT TO THE HOUSING SLOTS AND SNAP INTO PLACE.

    3. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE STROBE ADDRESS BE SET BEFORE THE APPLIANCE IS SNAPPED TO THE HOUSING.
