It is the first week of December and that means a fresh start for all of our
students. This week, we kicked off the start of the second trimester.
Throughout the week, we have encouraged our students to take advantage
of the clean slate. This applies for attendance, grades, homework, and just
about anything else you can imagine. Encourage your children to start
anew and do their absolute best this trimester.
This edition of the Logger Monthly is packed with information from past
accomplishments to upcoming events. Our students have been busy during
the first trimester and we are proud of all that they accomplished. From
our “Students of the Week” who are displaying great character and leader-
ship in the classrooms to our Spelling Bee champions who have proven that
hard work definitely pays off. Our students are rising to the challenge both
in and out of the classroom.
In addition, be sure to look at the list of Honor Roll students and Accelerat-
ed Readers. These students persisted and stayed the course throughout
the trimester and we will honor them with a special assembly. I hope that
it is evident that we are proud of all our student accomplishments so
please look through this entire edition and read all about it.
Finally, we have three short weeks before Christmas break is upon us.
Please encourage your student to stay focused and finish the calendar year
in good fashion. If our paths do not cross before Christmas break, I wish
you and your entire family a very
Merry Christmas!
Go Loggers!

EDDIE ESSAY
WINNERS
The results are in for the 2015 Boyne Area Kiwanis Eddie Essay Contest, and the winners are Jordan Herman and Michael Whennen.
The Eddie Essay Contest is an essay competition open to all area 10th grade students, encouraging them to reflect upon service and volunteerism in the community. Participating students write to the following prompt: If you had one hundred dollars to give to your favorite charity, which charity would you give the contribution to and why? Both students presented checks to local charity organizations on December 3rd at the Annual Boyne Area Kiwanis Club Eddie Award Breakfast. Michael, who took first place for Boyne Falls High School, presented a check for two hundred dollars to Camp Quality, and Jordan the Boyne Area Silver winner, presented a two hundred fifty dollar check to Boyne Area Community Christmas. Both gentlemen were presented with a check for twenty five dollars from Huntington Bank. Congratulations! We are proud of you both!
WELCOME MRS. MALLORY!
Boyne Falls School is excited to welcome Stephanie Mallory as our new second grade teacher: Hello, my name is Mrs. Mallory and I am the new 2nd grade teacher! I grew up in Charlevoix and currently live with my husband in Petoskey. I come from a large extended family and I love spending time with them. My immediate family is made up of my mom and dad, two older brothers, and my husband. I have three nieces and two nephews and I love being an aunt! I attended school at Eastern Michigan University and graduated with my bach-elors in elementary education and reading. I love to teach reading and could teach it all day! I am so happy to be at Boyne Falls Elementary and am elated to be teaching 2nd grade. This first week has been great! I have an amazing class and the other teachers and staff have been so help-ful. I know it is going to be a great year. Sincerely, Mrs. Mallory
Recreation Day Program
The Boyne Falls Ski Program starts on Thursday, January 14. Third through eighth graders will be partici-pating in the program. We are looking forward to a great year out on the snow.
Participate and choose one of the following activities as this is part of the scheduled curriculum:
Skiing
Snowboarding (6th-8th AND 3rd-5th grades ONLY if they are already proficient snowboard-ers with their own equipment.)
Cross Country Skiing (6th -8th grades)
Snowshoeing/Outdoor Activities
Parents, please remind your child(ren) to dress appropriately for the cold while skiing. This means wear-ing proper layers, gloves, hats, coats, and ski pants. We are strongly suggesting that all children wear hel-mets because this has significantly improved the outcomes of head injuries. Children in 6th through 8th grades can snowboard, but helmets are required for this activity. Helmets can be rented at the mountain.
If you are a parent who would like to volunteer with the program, please contact Brittney Book as soon as possible at 231-622-1410 or [email protected].
Please complete and return the attached “Parent Permission Form” to school by Friday, January 8, 2016.
Recreation Day VOLUNTEERS Wanted
The Boyne Falls Recreation Day/Ski Program starts on Thursday, January 14. Third through eighth graders will be participating in the program.
We are in need of parent volunteers. Areas to volunteer include:
Student monitoring and attendance. This requires staying in or around the civic center in case any problems or needs arise.
Ski/snowboard/cross-country ski supervision with a group.
If you are a parent who would like to volunteer for the program, please contact Brittney Book as soon as possible at 231-622-1410 or [email protected]. Thank you!
