ICON SELECTOR
The ICON choice is an index for the CANBus control console which explicitely requires it in a bigger generator
environment such as PROGRAM H.F. US3 device.
In monoblock environment, working station is only one and identified as WS1.
In US3 environment, workinstation are 4
In order to select an appropriate image to be displayed on CANBus control console select it pressing the icon:
TUBE SETTING
GENESI monoblock has only one tube features, so must always
be “1”, US3 can be single tube, or dual tubes; WS must be associate to the correct tube
this parameter is used to keep the tube into rotation at the end
of an exposure, or a run in fluoroscopy, for n seconds.
It is used in fluoroscopic systems to avoid consequent acceleration of the anode by continuously switching
Fluoro to Radio to Fluoro.
This prevents heat production in tube stator
A good starting value is 10 seconds.
those features are used in US3 when equipped with High Speed
Starter in order to force High Speed when sequences are used.

Used in previous generator to automatically print the emission label, no more used, in
stable release revision of the service software will be removed.
RADIO SECTION
In GENESI monoblock, emission commands are present only as terminal input, so
will be hidden in stable release. It must be “Ext only”
emission timing are here displayed for
development reason, will be removed in stable release: the meaning is: MINIMUM TIME THE EMISSION IN
COURSE SIGNAL MUST BE ACTIVE in order to inform external slow device that emission is ON
used in US3 to stop hardware the emission by external devices. Not Used in GENESI
used in US3 to delay emission until Injector Ready Input is present, not used in GENESI
Developer variable to make CANBus console beep after BETOX timeout to
avoud beeping during fast sequences.
600ms will grant that CANBus control console will beep only from 1 frame per second or lower frequency
sequences.
Serial link do not use this parameter.
it is used in US3 to describe for every workingstation which output to be used to
advise external device that generator is ready to emit, and which imput to wait from external device before
emitting.

Pressing this key: is open
GENESI has a simple interface, Potter reply input is always the II STEP (emission) for both pulsed fluoro and
radio, so this configuration is not used in GENESI.
US3 can build a potter chain in term of BUCKY CALLS and BUCKY Replies which drives relays or optocouplers on
Terminal Boards and senses the reply through optpcouplers.
TWO POINT TECHNIQUE PARAMETRIZATION
It is possible to select on control console (CANBus) or over serial link the two point radio technique:
!RET2
To return back to 3 pints technique use !RET3
In this technique, for a choosen mAs value (!RHXn) computer takes current kV value and select mA according
to the table selected belowe.
Than it computes emission time.
And reply on Serial Link !RHXn with current mA value, or ERROR in case mAs value sent through serial link is
wrong (!SER213)
This is used to best fit the kV/mAs technique according to filament power.
It uses curves to be select, or a custom curve to be draw.
Right clicking over the index, a graphic representation of the mA selected while kV are selected is shown:
GENERATOR SETUP NAVIGATOR STM for generators
V1 R2
28/04/2014
24
Higher the index, higher the mA the computer will choose to compute selected mAs.
TOMOGRAPHY SETUP
GENESI do not have a prebuild tomography technique, this section is not used.
In US3 generator, here you can set the way to inform generator that Tomography is select
(SLOW / FAST bit plus 1 Tomo Angle select OR Bit encoding time)
Than time setup according to the timing combined on inputs:

of the 16 combination in 4 angles decoder in Bit Encoding Time combination.
Than the sequence of external input to wait before starting emitting, in .
EXPOSET
In US3 it is possible to automate the EXPOSET mode while sequencing in ANGIOGRAPHIC MODE (radiography
sequence mode controlled in time by Automatic Exposure device).
Once enabled it, it is possible to select the frame delay between time freeze.
DSA
In US3 generator it is possible to enable DSA dose multiplier using an external input and the multiply factor.

AUTOMATIC EXPOSURE SETUP
When generator is connected to an AEC camera through the AEC amplifier it is possible to ENABLE it and set
the AEC related parameters.
It is possible, if configured, to access the AEC mode through command !RET1

1 Point technique: Operator selects kV, from a table similar to the two points technique it is select the mA for
next radiography and AEC will interrupt time when integraded dose riches the calibrated value according to
next criteria.
2points technique: Operator selects kV and mA and AEC modulate time. In this technique it is possible to set
mA parameter according to patient / organ under exam.
This information is static, so there is no possibility to change through CANBus or Serial link.

29
In case AEC is set to 1 point technique the request to change mA (!RHCn)will be ignored.
Detectors number depends on generator’s type: on GENESI only 1.
Detector type will be removed from service software (we’re developing a common interface).
Here is possible to set a minimum signal coming from AEC camera in order to see if radiation is arriving on
camera while exposing (generally 20mV)
Than it is possible to set the saturation voltage (0 mins control excluded, good value are from 4500 from 4,5
volt up).
This is important in US3 to avoid selecting a camera while tube is oriented on a different camera
In a GENESI environment where WS is only #1 it is possible to set all to zero to exclude controls.
Here it is described the AEC camera.
In GENESI generator permitted filed are as follow: .
Here it is possible to describe camera as three field or only central field, removing the lateral checks:
.
When three field camera is connect, it is possible to switch ON or OFF the dominant sending following serial
command:
!RAF7 to enable all the three fields
!RAF2 to enable only the central field
Or the other combination.
1 POINT TECHNIQUE

30
As already seen for kV/mAs technique, here it is possible to select a curve to describe the system which value
of mA to be select when kV is set.
It is not used if AEC 2pt is select.
GAIN ADJUST
Here it is possible to adjust the ZERO DENSITY ADJUST point:
The setup is divided into 4 columns because 4 FILM/SCREEN combination are possible:
!RAS0 set the usage of the parameters in the left colums
!RASn set the usage of the parameters in nth column starting from left
There is a FILM vs ENERGY adjust (every 20kV) and it is already setup for GREEN/BLUE screen.
( )
This should NOT be changed on field unless different screen are used.
The parameter to change when optical density is adjusting on the field is , doubling this
value, exposure time will be doubled.
Fixed this point during system setup, it is possible to dynamically, and temporary, change this parameter from
50% to 200% on operator’s control console.
!RAD0 set Density to GAIN/2 (50% of stored value) !RAD3 set Density to GAIN !RAD6 set Density to GAIN*2 (200% of stored value) than, intermediate values are on R10’ scale.
is used only in R&D and will be hidden in Stable Revision.

CONTINUOS FLUOROSCOPY
Continuous Fluoroscopy in US3 can be either selected by Serial Message or “IPF” signal. In GENESI the input “SEQUENCE” is OPEN when Continuous Fluoroscopy is to be selected.
this voice, in STABLE release, will be changed in ENABLE pr DISABLE, and selection will be made only through External Digital Input.

CHAINED PARAMETERS
It is possible to describe the way Fluoroscopy will chain kV and mA. In R&D system a lot of curves are possible:
but in STABLE production will be reduced to following:
notice: Also values labeling will change This curve is the most flexible on the ones tested and acts in this way:
Point A: MIN DOSE POINT: defined as 40kV @ min mA Point B: STARTING POINT: defined as [min kV]@[def mA] Point C: MAX DOSE POINT: defined as [def kV] @ [max mA] Point D: MAX ENERGY POINT: defined as [max kV] @ [WATT(Point C)].

DOSE REGULATOR
Control Type:
Selection is done through following items:
means that Dose is changed changing Fluoro kV through Control Console.
parameters are changed using:
in Program US3 there is the possibility to drive kV in digital input mode
present on both US3 and GENESI,
In US3 class the input signal can be both ERROR signal (Zero Balance) or REFERENCE SIGNAL (Actual Dose).
In this case, the regulator controller parameter in next paragraph have to be set.
In GENESI monoblock, reference signal is only a POSITIVE DOSE REFERENCE.
Switching from AUTOMATIC REGULATION to MANUAL REGULATION
!FAM0: Remove ABS control (Manual Mode) in this condition it is possible to adjust dose sending, also during
emission, following command:
!FHV+ to increase dose
!FHV- to decrease dose
!FAM1: If automatic drive is select, this command will introduce the reference signal drive mode.
When kV are regulated in automatic mode ?FHV and ?FHC packet are to be assert by control console every
second to check the set point changed by automatic regulator.
Note:
!FHV+ to increase dose and !FHV- to decrease dose DURING STAN-BY (!GST2) are usable also in case
fluoroscopy is in automatic mode (!FAM1)
CONTROLLER PARAMETERS
this is the dose sampling period.

34
It depends on fluoroscopic chains refresh delay.
In an analog system, a value of 100ms let have 4 frame averaged signal in input. A good starting point, and it
can be reduced to 50ms.
In digital system it depends on computation time of computer which produces the dose reference signal.
In case it produces the DAC refresh every frame, the values described for analog system are a good starting
point.
This is the correct dose level followed by controller.
DOSE REFERENCERS produces a POSITIVE signal which is proportional to the incident dose: the equilibrium
point is described in fluoroscopic system documentation, or can be obtained in manual mode evaluating the
image and measuring the voltage output of this signal.
When dose is in target point, generator do not move kV until dose signal exit from the interval here specified,
to avoid signal un-stabilization due to slight noise.
100mV is a good starting point, in case signal cables are driven closed to power cable, NOT SUGGESTED, maybe
this value have to be increased.
Here the balance value can be temporary changed through Serial Protocol in order to adapt the dose to exam,
in case external control consol uses Anatomic Driven exams. !FABnnnn will change it
The first (20) is the proportional coefficient: as High as FAST, more probability to have unstable regulation
The second coefficient is a future expansions, and in stable version will be hidden.
In case of GENESI monoblock this must be marked, the meaning is this: In case the signal rise over the balance
point, actual kV must decries. In case dose reference is lower than balance value, kV must go up.
TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS
it is possible to preset radio /cine data using fluoroscopies actual values, describing with a table the transfer
policy:
This can transfer kV, or kV & mA data using a table drawn pressing .
Using Serial link it is possible to set this ON / OFF through commands: !F2R0 – No transfer from tables
!F2R1 – Activate transfer from tables
GENERATOR SETUP NAVIGATOR STM for generators
V1 R2
28/04/2014
35
It is also possible to set a mAs limit when transferring also mA in
order to set the correct backup time when next Radiography will be in AEC mode.
In US3 two table are present:
FLUOROSCOPY to RADIO
FLUOROSCOPY to CINE
In GENESI monoblock FLUOROSCOPY to RADIO is the table used to transfer data in both SINGLE or SEQUENCE
mode.
HIGH CONTRAST (PULSED) FLUOROSCOPY
GENERATOR SETUP NAVIGATOR STM for generators
V1 R2

36
In US3 generators Pulsed fluoroscopy can be either associated to workingstation or select on current using a
digital input .
In GENESI monoblock Pulsed Fluoroscopy is selected using SEQUENCE input ACTIVE, followed by FLUROSCOPY
COMMAND input ACTIVE.
Basic parameters of Pulsed fluoroscopy are: kV, mA policy (fixed / chained), Pulse time (ficed/chained)
Those basic parameters are described here: .
There are a lot of chaining method in R&D program, but final system will have the most flexible curve similar to
Continuos Fluoroscopy.
The way to draw this curve is different:
this information will be fixed and hide in stable version
pressing this key it is accessed a special panel where it is possible to describe the chaining
between HIGH VOLTAGE and PULSE POWER:
GENERATOR SETUP NAVIGATOR STM for generators
V1 R2
28/04/2014
37
Green curve is POWER output chained to kV
Yellow curve is PULSE TIME chained to kV
A linear policy, like FIXED mA and FIXED time can be described in this way:
Classic variable kV,fixed mA, fixed pulse time
A typical angio/cardiac curve can be described in this way:
40kV to 60kV: Peripheric Exam, Low Dose
60kV to 90kV: Peripheric High Density, “High variable dose and Energy for High Contrast”
90kV to 120kV: Central exam “Quasi-fixed High Power output, variable Beam Energy for very high density”

OTHER PARAMETERS
This data is used as starting point to compute a pre-indication of run,
nevertheless, generator is synchronized with starting incoming pulses.
In future expansion, as in factory test, this data will be used to make asynchronus pulses for analog
receptors/tests
This is used to emit after “n” pulses on Bucky reply input.
Some devices accept the pulse division (SLAVE DEVICE which grabs image on “Emission” digital output from
generator)
Other devices do not accept it(MASTER DEVICE) and when request emission want to see emission. In this case
this number must be 1.
NOTE: in case of automatic control, if it is set a value of division different from ONE, the system will use all the
pulses (maximum frequency) to adjust the dose, than will start dividing according to this parameter when dose
is inside balance interval.
BUCKY CHAIN
In US3 generator, synchro signal can be select pressing .
In GENESI monoblock, synchro signal is II step

Description is exactly the same as per Continuos Fluoroscopy.
CINERADIOGRAPHY Cineradiography is a sequence of radiography in which it is possible to regulate dose using a dose reference

In GENESI monoblock, regulation type is only the curve descrived before, driven by analog dose reference
signal “iec” as already seen for High Contrast Fluoroscopy.
