OPENING BLURB

Thanks for taking the time to look at my work. As a freelancer who works predominantly from home, I try and make life as easy as possible for my clients. It means I don’t hassle already-stretched creative teams for final artwork so that my portfolio looks pretty. If they’ve been happy enough with my words, I’m content with that.

In the pages that follow, I’ve given a snapshot of the kind of work I’ve done. Over the years I’ve worked with private, public, small, large, ego-driven, humble, pleasant and downright difficult companies across almost every sector. I’ve enjoyed every single minute.

If you’re interested in working with me, there’s a bit more about rates and all that practical stuff towards the rear. I look forward to hearing from you.

JOB POSTING

NATIONWIDE

Customer Service Consultant

Take on a role where personality makes all the difference. Our contact centre needs people who are

confident, focused, full of initiative and, above all, able to build rapport with customers over the

phone. And if you bring us these skills, we’ll develop you with some of the best training around.

About the role

As one of our Customer Service Consultants, and the first point of contact for customers, you’ll be

much more than a friendly voice. You’re happiest on the phone and in your element trying to help

our customers. You’ll easily balance the desire to over promise with a more pragmatic approach –

managing customers’ expectations, whilst still giving them everything they need and more. That can

mean taking care of anything from giving out account information to handling an overdraft request.

Just as importantly, you’ll spot opportunities for our Sales Consultants by identifying whether

customers would benefit from any other products. Equally, you’ll be equally comfortable working to

achievable targets – even more so once you’ve had our bespoke training and benefit from ongoing

support.

About you

Each customer is an individual with their own specific needs and the way you communicate with

them directly affects how they think and feel about us. So, rather than financial services experience,

you’ll need the ability to listen, empathise and inspire confidence, whilst still remaining friendly and

natural. If customer focus is at the heart of all you do, selling is also in your soul and you’ll also have

basic PC skills. Add a bit of determination and our training will teach you the rest.

About us

We’re the world’s biggest building society. And, in today’s economic climate, our reputation for

being open, honest and trustworthy is benefiting our customers. Underpinning it all is a commercial

operation that’s keenly competitive and constantly evolving. Right now, right across our business,

we’re aiming higher, thinking smarter and acting faster than ever before. And we’re looking for

people who are proud of what we stand for, and who have the talent and drive to boost our

performance still further.

About your rewards

We have big ambitions for our business – and high expectations of the people who’ll help us achieve

them. In return we’ll offer you plenty of scope for personal development, recognition, a great

working environment plus a generous rewards package that includes pension, life assurance,

healthcare and bonus scheme.

JOB POSTING

MANCHESTER UNITED

Job title: Conference and Events Sales Co-ordinator

Location: Old Trafford, Manchester

Salary: Commensurate with relevant experience

The organisation

Behind every great club is a great supporting team. Ours is no exception. As one of the world’s most

successful sporting organisations and a highly professional, commercially astute business, we now

boast over 25 restaurants, 166 boxes, eight super suites and a vast choice of bars to some 8,500

executive members. This makes our match day and non-match day offering a hospitality experience

that’s in a league of its own.

The role

To keep the Club at the top of the international football arena and meet our fans expectations, we’re

always looking at ways to optimise our performance – both on and off the field. As a Conference and

Events Sales Co-ordinator you’ll work with the operational team to make sure that our customers’

every wish is met and exceeded – whether it’s for an AGM, business meeting or wedding. You’ll

handle all events enquiries and sell-in appropriate services that maximise profit – cross selling where

you can – to give them an experience they’ll never forget and want to repeat.

What we’re looking for

Planning and organising events is your passion. You happily do what needs to be done, because you

believe in what we have to offer. Your background in hospitality conference and/or events is

impeccable, but as important is your meticulousness, organisation, customer-focused sales and

negotiation skills and creativity. A natural communicator, you’re committed to excellence and your

outgoing personality will inspire those that work with you and result in memorable events and

conferences.

BLOGGING – GHOST WRITING

Redrow

Living up to our name

When you’ve been building award-wining homes for 40 years, you’re definitely doing something

right. From the quality of the design and the construction, to the customer service that runs

alongside ensuring customers have homes, not houses, Redrow are serious about their business. But

they’re serious about their people too. They have around 1,300 people working from 10 regional

divisions. Planning, design and construction are naturally at the heart of the business. But as they’ve

grown so it goes they need the people to support the business and keep it performing at its best. As

such there are also careers in support functions such as finance, IT, HR, health and safety and

administration.

They’re progressive in all they do. And nowhere is that more noticeable than in their purpose built

training centre in Tamworth, where they tailor their induction and training to the individual so that

they’re fulfilling their potential. So it should come as no real surprise that a company that’s this

committed to quality would want to apply that to their recruitment process too. So we went to talk

to them about how HARBOUR ATS could help.

Our original brief was to build an ATS to support the nice new slick website they were developing

and to work with their agency to make sure it all happened. To start, the brief was pretty

straightforward. Granted, there were some additional pieces they wanted so that the system

matched how they worked, such as a vacancy and offer authorisation functionality. They also

wanted their job postings in HARBOUR ATS to ‘live feed’ to their website. Naturally we were more

than happy to oblige.

However, as we learned a bit more about them, and they learned a bit more about us… they realised

we might be able to help them with some other aspects that would add value to their process. But,

as is often the case, changing requirements don’t always come with a change in deadlines. They’ve

got a business to run after all. Add to the mix that we’re trying to back it all into the website their

agency is building and it all adds up to an exhilarating ride.

In fact, it’s where our new strapline ‘The flexible ATS’ really had to live up to its name. However

thanks to a great relationship with the team at Redrow, we all realised that if you work together

pretty much anything’s achievable. So we did exactly that. We changed the site structure to

accommodate different business areas. We adapted the vacancy authorisation functionality so that

they could choose either from a drop down of existing users or dynamically enter additional

authorisers to the database. And we did the same for the offer process too.

We’re no push over. Yet we listen to our clients’ needs and we discuss them – drawing on our

expertise to decide where we bend and where we respectfully challenge. It’s a way of working that is

productive for both our clients and for us. Redrow gets an ATS that’s time-saving, accelerates the

candidate process and provides speedy vacancy posting (we’re also scheduled to discuss with them

our OnBoarding capability and a potential integration with E-learning suppliers so watch this space).

And in return we get great satisfaction from making our clients happy and pushing HARBOUR ATS to

be even better. And as we evolve to accommodate ever-changing website needs, we get the chance

14

to live up to our name, making us one of the most flexible ATS around. Redrow are even happy to

tell you how they feel about it.

“Thanks for all your wonderful and very prompt help! It’s a fantastic system – I love it!” Ruth

Watson, Redrow.

RATES

My core hours are 9am to 3pm and I work from home for the most part. All the work you see in this

document was done from home, with the aid of a good brief (phone or written) . That said, I do work

on-site if needed for specific projects, I just need a little advance warning to arrange childcare. I’d

also consider a more permanent arrangement working 2-3 days per week.

Hourly rate: £40ph

Short day rate: £225

9am to 3pm (I don’t take a lunch hour so you get 6 hours for your money)

Long day rate: £300

9am to 5pm (I eat at my desk so you still save a bit!)
