Gen 9:1-7, This Week Be fruitful and increase in number.vs. 1 & 7 An imperative in Greek (7x;s) & Hebrew When God says it twice plhqu, nesqe verb imperative presentpassive 2nd person pluralincrease, multiply, 5. Be Fruitful And Increase In Number Gen 16:10 I will so increase your descendants [all are ellipses] Gen 17:2 I will and will greatly increase your numbers. Gen 17:20 I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase hisnumbers. Gen 26:24 I will bless you and will increase the number ofyour descendants Gen 28:3 May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitfuland increase Gen 35:11 I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase innumber. Gen 48:3 "God Almighty blessed me 4 and said to me, Iam going to make you fruitful and will increase your numbers. Lev 26:9 I will look on you with favor and make youfruitful and increase your numbers, Deut 1:11 May the Lord, the God of your fathers, increase you Deut 6:3 obey so that you may increase 6. Gen 9:1-7 Animal Capital Punish Ex 21:28-29 "If a bull gores a man or a womanto death, the bull must be stoned to death, andits meat must not be eaten. But the owner of thebull will not be held responsible. 29 If, however, the bull has had the habit of goring and theowner has been warned but has not kept itpenned up and it kills a man or woman, the bullmust be stoned and the owner also must be putto death. [Pit Bulls?] 7. Gen 9:8-11 8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons withhim: 9 "I now establish my covenant with youand with your descendants after you 10 and withevery living creature that was with you thebirds, the livestock and all the wild animals, allthose that came out of the ark with you every living creature on earth. 11 I establishmy covenant with you: Never again will all lifebe cut off by the waters of a flood; never againwill there be a flood to destroy the earth." 8. Local Flood? Gen 9:10-11 and with every living creature thatwas with you the birds, the livestock and allthe wild animals, all those that came out ofthe ark with you every living creatureon earth. 9. Universal, Unilateral Covenant This is a universal, unilateral covenant withevery living creature on earth What is required of the living creatures to keeptheir end of the bargain? The very nature and character of God are atstake here. Everything hangs in the balance. If God is notfaithful to absolutely keep His promises whathope do we have? We should cringe and cower atthe sight of every rain cloud, or local flood. 10. Universal, Unilateral Covenant Those in the amillennial camp seem to be willinglyignorant of this universal, unilateral covenant withall life, and especially the other unilateralcovenants with Israel. R.C. Sproul in his book The Truth Of The Cross onpage 122 says All covenants have stipulations..Gods covenant with Israel was no exception. An outright denial of Gods unilateral covenantswith Israel are required by their replacementtheology. 11. Unilateral Covenants Gen 12:7 The Lord appeared to Abram and said, "Toyour offspring I will give this land." So he built an altarthere to the Lord, who had appeared to him. Gen 13:16-17 I will make your offspring like the dust ofthe earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, thenyour offspring could be counted. Gen 15:4-5 a son coming from your own body will beyour heir." 5 He took him outside and said, "Look up atthe heavens and count the stars if indeed you cancount them." Then he said to him, "So shall youroffspring be." Gen 15:18 On that day the Lord made a covenant withAbram and said, "To your descendants I give this land 12. Unilateral Covenants Gen 17:7.I will establish my covenant as aneverlasting covenant between me and you and yourdescendants after you for the generations to come, Gen 17:21But my covenant I will establish withIsaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time nextyear. Gen 22:16and said, "I swear by myself, declaresthe Lord Gen 26:3For to you and your descendants I willgive all these lands Gen 28:13I will give you and your descendants theland on which you are lying. 13. Unilateral Covenants Gen 35:12The land I gave to Abraham andIsaac I also give to you, and I will give this landto your descendants after you." Gen 48:4I will give this land as an everlastingpossession to your descendants after you. 2 Sam 7:8-16Your house and your kingdomwill endure forever before me; your throne willbe established forever." 14. Unilateral Covenants Mal 3:6-7"I the Lord do not change. So you, Odescendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Eversince the time of your forefathers you have turnedaway from my decrees and have not kept them.Return to me, and I will return to you," says theLord Almighty. Please open your Bibles to Isaiah 54; Isa 54:5-10..."To me this is like the days of Noah Isa 55:3 Give ear and come to me; hear me, thatyour soul may live. I will make an everlastingcovenant with you, my faithful love promised toDavid. 15. Unilateral Covenants Please open your Bibles to Jeremiah 31; Jer 31:33"This is the covenant I will makewith the house of Israel after that time,"declares the Lord. "I will put my law in theirminds and write it on their hearts. Jer 33:12-22If you can break my covenantwith the day and my covenant with the night 16. Unbreakable Unilateral Covenants Ps 89:30-37 "If his sons [Davids] forsake my law and do not follow my statutes, 31 if they violate my decrees and failto keep my commands, 32 I will punish their sin with the rod, theiriniquity with flogging; 33 but I will not take my love from him, norwill I ever betray my faithfulness. 34 I will not violate mycovenant or alter what my lips have uttered. 35 Once for all, I havesworn by my holiness and I will not lie to David 36 that his linewill continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun;37 it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness inthe sky. Luke 1:32 -33the Lord God will give him the throne of his fatherDavid. 33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and hiskingdom will never end." Ps 94:14 For the Lord will not reject his people; he will neverforsake his inheritance. 17. Unbreakable Unilateral Covenants Lev 26:40-45 "But if they will confess their sinsand the sins of their fathers their treacheryagainst me and their hostility toward me, 41 whichmade me hostile toward them so that I sent theminto the land of their enemies then when theiruncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay fortheir sin, 42 I will remember my covenant withJacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenantwith Abraham, and I will remember the land. 43 Forthe land will be deserted by them and will enjoy itssabbaths while it lies desolate without them. 18. Unbreakable Unilateral Covenants They will pay for their sins because they rejectedmy laws and abhorred my decrees. 44 Yet inspite of this, when they are in the land of theirenemies, I will not reject them or abhor them soas to destroy them completely, breaking mycovenant with them. I am the Lord their God. 45But for their sake I will remember the covenantwith their ancestors whom I brought out ofEgypt in the sight of the nations to be their God.I am the Lord." 19. Unbreakable Unilateral Covenants Rom 9:4the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption assons; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receivingof the law, the temple worship and the promises. Rom 9:6It is not as though Gods word had failed. Fornot all who are descended from Israel are Israel Rom 9:27."Though the number of the Israelites be likethe sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved. Rom 11:1 I ask then: Did God reject his people? By nomeans!... Rom 11:11Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fallbeyond recovery? Not at all!... Rom 11:25-26Israel has experienced a hardening in partuntil the full number of the Gentiles has come in. 26 Andso all Israel will be saved, as it is written Rom 11:28-30they are loved on account of thepatriarchs, 29 for Gods gifts and his call areirrevocable. 20. Promise = Unilateral Covenant Gal 3:17-18 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside thecovenant previously established by God and thus doaway with the promise. 18 For if the inheritancedepends on the law, then it no longer depends on apromise; but God in his grace gave it to Abrahamthrough a promise. NIV [promise not a reward] Their unfaithfulness does not make God unfaithful! Romans 3:4 May it never be! Rather, let God befound true, though every man be found a liar, as it iswritten, "THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOURWORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU AREJUDGED." 21. Only The Remnant Will Be Saved Rom 9:27."Though the number of theIsraelites be like the sand by the sea, only theremnant will be saved. Romans 11:26 and so all Israel will be saved; justas it is written, "THE DELIVERER WILL COMEFROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVEUNGODLINESS FROM JACOB." 22. Amos 9:9-15, 755 B.C. Amos 9:9-15 "For I will give the command, and I will shake the house of Israel among all the nations as grain is shaken in a sieve, and not a pebble will reach the ground. 10 All the sinners among my people will die by the sword, all those who say, Disaster will not overtake or meet us. 11 "In that day I will restore Davids fallen tent. I will repair its broken places, restore its ruins, 23. Amos 9:9-15, 755 B.C. and build it as it used to be, 12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name,"declares the Lord, who will do these things. 13 "The days are coming," declares the Lord, "when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills. 14 I will bring back my exiled people Israel; they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit. 15 I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to beuprooted from the land I have given them," 24. James, TABERNACLE OF DAVID Acts 15:16-18 AFTER THESE THINGS I willreturn, AND I WILL REBUILD THETABERNACLE OF DAVID WHICH HASFALLEN, AND I WILL REBUILD ITS RUINS,AND I WILL RESTORE IT, 17 SO THAT THEREST OF MANKIND MAY SEEK THE LORD,AND ALL THE GENTILES WHO ARE CALLEDBY MY NAME, 18 SAYS THE LORD, WHO MAKES THESETHINGS KNOWN FROM LONG AGO. 25. Back to Genesis 26. Gen 9:12-17 And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am makingbetween me and you and every living creature with you, acovenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set myrainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenantbetween me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds overthe earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I willremember my covenant between me and you and all livingcreatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become aflood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears inthe clouds, I will see it and remember the everlastingcovenant between God and all living creatures of every kindon the earth." 17 So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant Ihave established between me and all life on the earth." 27. Genesis 9:16, Bow Or Rainbow? NAS ESV CSB KJV YLT NAU Genesis 9:16 "When thebow is in the cloud.... NKJ NIV NETGenesis 9:16 When the rainbow is inthe clouds... Hebrew, Greek, and English all use bow in lotsof ways, but rainbow is specific. 28. My Rainbow Only 3 other uses of rainbow; Ezek 1:27-28 I saw that from what appeared to be his waistup he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that fromthere down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surroundedhim. 28 Like the appearance of a rainbow [toxon] in the cloudson a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was theappearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When Isaw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking. Rev 4:3 And the one who sat there had the appearance ofjasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne. Rev 10:1 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down fromheaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above hishead; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fierypillars. 29. Hebrew Word For bow qesheth Meaning: a bow 30. Rainbow, Grk. = iris 2463 iris {ee-ris} Meaning: 1) a rainbow Revelation 4:3 And He who was sitting was like ajasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and therewas a rainbow [iris] around the throne, like anemerald in appearance. Revelation 10:1 I saw another strong angel comingdown out of heaven, clothed with a cloud; and therainbow [iris] was upon his head, and his face waslike the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire; 31. LXX, Genesis 9:13 I set My bow [toxon]; in thecloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenantbetween Me and the earth. 32. Gen 9:18-19 Gen 9:18-19 The sons of Noah who came out ofthe ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Hamwas the father of Canaan.) 19 These were thethree sons of Noah, and from them came thepeople who were scattered over the earth. The parenthesis is explanatory of vs.25 Scattered looks forward to ch. 11 33. Gen 9:20-23 Gen 9:20-23 Noah, a man of the soil, proceededto plant a vineyard. 21 When he drank some ofits wine, he became drunk and lay uncoveredinside his tent. 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his fathers nakedness and told his twobrothers outside. 23 But Shem and Japheth tooka garment and laid it across their shoulders;then they walked in backward and covered theirfathers nakedness. Their faces were turned theother way so that they would not see theirfathers nakedness. 34. Noah, Lets Reflect 2 Peter 2:5Noah, a preacher of righteousness Heb 11:7By faith Noah, when warned aboutthings not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark tosave his family. By his faith he condemned theworld and became heir of the righteousness thatcomes by faith. Ezek 14:20.declares the Sovereign Lord, even ifNoah, Daniel and Job were in it. Did Noah end well? 35. Ending Well Acts 20:24However, I consider my life worth nothing to me,if only I may finish the race and complete the task the LordJesus has given me the task of testifying to the gospel ofGods grace 1 Cor 9:27No, I beat my body and make it my slave so thatafter I have preached to others, I myself will not bedisqualified for the prize 2 Tim 2:15Do your best to present yourself to God as oneapproved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed andwho correctly handles the word of truth Rev 2:25-26Only hold on to what you have until I come. 26To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will giveauthority over the nations Heb 6:11We want each of you to show this same diligence tothe very end, in order to make your hope sure. 36. Noahs Finish Lets look ahead; Gen 9:28-29 After the flood Noah lived 350years. 29 Altogether, Noah lived 950 years, andthen he died. This is all thats said of his last 350 years ofministry. 37. Lets Go Back To Gen 9:24-25 Gen 9:24-25 When Noah awoke from his wineand found out what his youngest son had doneto him, awoke= evknh,fw , come to ones senses had done = evpoi, hsen verb indicative aoristactive Its an active verb 38. Gen 9:25 Gen 9:25 he said, "Cursed be Canaan! Thelowest of slaves will he be to his brothers." Cursed be Canaan, not Cursed be Ham. Its notabout dark skin, Egyptians & Babylonians wereHamitic. Ham had 4 sons (10:6). An angry father lashing out at his grandchild forthe action of his youngest son? Or a sinful act which triggered the Holy Spirit toprophesy through Noah about his two sons &one grandson for centuries to come. 39. Cursed be Canaan Bible Knowledge Commentary says, because ofthis incident Noah prophesied about his sonsdescendants. He began with the direct words,Cursed be Canaan! However, Noah was notpunishing Hams son for something Ham did.Instead, Noahs words referred to the nation ofCanaanites that would come from Ham throughCanaan. Hams act of hubris could not be leftwithout repercussions. 40. Consequence Of Not Punishment Jeremiah 31:29-30 "In those days they will notsay again, The fathers have eaten sour grapes,And the childrens teeth are set on edge. 30 "Buteveryone will die for his own iniquity; each manwho eats the sour grapes, his teeth will be set onedge. Ezekiel 18:4 "Behold, all souls are Mine; the soulof the father as well as the soul of the son isMine. The soul who sins will die. 41. And Also Afterward The sons of God could have sinned again andthat is why God wiped out all the Canaanites. Numbers 13:29 "Amalek is living in the land ofthe Negev and the Hittites and the Jebusites andthe Amorites are living in the hill country, andthe Canaanites are living by the sea and by theside of the Jordan." 42. Gen 9:25, Servants Gen 9:25The lowest of slaves will he be to hisbrothers." 1st. Mention of servant Josh 9:27 That day he [Joshua] made the Gibeoniteswoodcutters and water carriers for the community andfor the altar of the Lord at the place the Lord wouldchoose. And that is what they are to this day. Judg 1:28 When Israel became strong, they pressed theCanaanites into forced labor but never drove them outcompletely. 1 Kings 9:21these Solomon conscripted for his slavelabor force 43. Gen 9:26-27 "Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem. 27 May God extend the territory of Japheth[=enlarge, its a pun]; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be his slave." 44. The End Gods center iseverywhere. Hiscircumference isnowhere. Thomas Watson 45. WHY ARE HUMAN FOSSILS SCARCE? WHY ARE HUMAN FOSSILS SCARCE? Listen Psalm 18:30 "As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust inhim." One question we are often asked is why more human fossils are not found in older rocks. In order tobecome a fossil, a creature must be buried rapidly in sediment so that it does not decay. Aquatic animalswould be much more likely to produce fossils in, say, a worldwide flood than land animals, and, indeed, geologists universally use small marine creatures as their "index fossils."Usually, the smaller the creature is, the larger the population, and this is another reason why smallmarine fossils are so plentiful. They are found worldwide from almost the very lowest sedimentary rocksto those at the surface and even at mountaintops. Generally speaking, the birds and the larger mammals, including man, have much smaller populations and are, indeed, found much less frequently. If all thesedeaths resulted from the Great Flood, then as the valleys filled with water, the larger animals would runfor the safety of higher ground; small animals would be exhausted and drown, as would the birds whocould not fly in the heavy 40-days of rain. Mankind would have survived until exhausted on floatingvegetation. For the most part, the drowned bodies of birds and small mammals, including man, would decomposequickly in the swirling waters and not be trapped in sediment. The larger animals, such as the dinosaurs, would easily be trapped in mud and rising sediment and, thus, be good candidates for fossilization. The pattern of fossils actually found worldwide does not support the theory of evolution, but it does, indeed, support the biblical record of the Genesis Flood. 46. Scientists who believe in creation know that if human remains were found fossilized with dinosaur remains, evolutionists could not ignore the eThe layer is a 15- to 18-inch-thick layer of phosphate rock in the southeastern United States. According to the Bible, they could have. Now geology has PROOF OF HUMANS AND DINOSAURS TOGETHER Listen Genesis 1:31 "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good. And the evening and themorning were the sixth day." According to the story of life offered by evolution, dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years before manever set foot on Earth. According to the Bible, all living things were made during a six-day period of time. This means that humans and dinosaurs walked the Earth at the same time. If evidence that they livedtogether could be found, evolutionary history would be very seriously challenged. Scientists who believe in creation know that if human remains were found fossilized with dinosaurremains, evolutionists could not ignore the evidence. That evidence has been discovered in a giant fossilgraveyard that has even been described in the scientific literature. Textbooks on evolution neglect tomention it for obvious reasons. The layer is a 15- to 18-inch-thick layer of phosphate rock in the southeastern United States. The rock is65 percent phosphate, which means that the layer is made primarily of the bones of dead animals. Thebones were clearly deposited by a huge flood; the deposit is at least as large as the Everglades! And mixedinto the layer are bones of all sorts of animals that evolution says could not have lived together, includinghuman bones and Hadrosaurus bones. Did men of the generations recorded in the Bible see great herds of duckbill dinosaurs ranging thegrasslands of the Earth? According to the Bible, they could have. Now geology has finally caught up withthe Bible! 47. HUMAN DNA VARIATION LINKED TOBIBLICAL EVENT TIMELINE [Excerpts]September 7, 2012 HUMAN DNA VARIATION LINKED TO BIBLICAL EVENT TIMELINE [Excerpts] Each person is different, and each, except an identical twin, has unique DNA differences. These differences can be traced across global populations and ethnic groups. Furthermore, recent researchprovides interesting insight about the approximate time that these DNA differences entered the human race. A new study reported in the journal Science has advanced our knowledge of rare DNA variation associated with gene regions in the human genome. 1 By applying a demographics-based model tothe data, researchers discovered that the human genome began to rapidly diversify about 5,000 years ago. Remarkably, this data coincides closely with biblical models of rapid diversification ofhumans after the global flood. The vast majority of DNA base sequences between any two humans are nearly identical, so the few differences are traceable among people groups. The human genome project has continued toanalyze thousands of humans throughout the world for variation in their DNA sequence. Researchers link this variation with many human traits and heritable diseases.2 Typically, this variation is evaluated using single DNA base differences or single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) between individuals and populations. Because of the type of standardized "genechip" technology commonly used, most SNP analyses evaluate only the most variable parts of the human genome and, therefore, exclude the much less variable protein-coding regions. The recent Science study analyzed the DNA sequences of 15,585 protein-coding gene regions in the human genome for 1,351 European Americans and 1,088 African Americans. The data proved ideal for examining the course of human genetic variation over time, partly because protein-coding regions are less tolerant of sequence variation than other parts of the genome;these regions record more reliable, or less "noisy" historical genetic information. Typically, evolutionary scientists incorporate hypothetical deep time scales taken from paleontology or just borrowed from other authors to develop and calibrate models of genetic change overtime.3 In contrast this Science study used demographic models of human populations over known historical time and known geographical space. The resulting data showed a very recent, massiveburst of human genetic diversification. The authors wrote, "The maximum likelihood time for accelerated growth was 5,115 years ago." Old-earth proponents now have a new challenge: to explain why -- after millions of years of hardlyany genetic variation among modern humans -- human genomic diversity exploded only within the last five thousand years?
