• Students protested against government– Called for Democracy

• 1,000 students were killed by the government

• 10,000 were arrested and many were executed

• Most people farm– Labor intensive

• Have to use hand tools because machinery is too expensive

• Has improved in recent years– Villages have community centers that provide

opportunities for citizens

electricity, and running water
