COURSE OBJECTIVES & TOPICS:This course introduces the theories, methodologies & applications of Remote Sensing.

Topics will include;

1. principles of electromagnetic radiation.

2. interactions of solar radiation with the Earth's atmosphere.

3. characteristics of sensor systems.

4. types of data

5. applications of R. S. to vegetation, soil and water.

6. basic skills development in ERDAS Imagine.

A detailed schedule including topics, readings, and assignments will be posted online with the progress of the class (see calendar page).

ASSIGNMENTS/QUIZZES (25%): There will be a variety of

exercises due weekly or every other week, these may

include in and out of class exercises, written and

computational exercises, and software and internet based

exercises. Quizzes will be in class only.

EXAMS (50%): Two exams will be given, midterm (25%),

final (25% - cumulative).

Landsat Project (25%): The project will involve

downloading Landsat data of the LA basin area and

analyzing it using ERDAS Imagine software.

ATTENDANCE: An attendance sheet may be passed

around or a pop quiz given at some class meetings, each

missed class will result in a 1% deduction in final grade.
