N.T.6. 42-B-7

SHERLOCK 1-83

LOCATION AND ACCESS

The property is situated within the Kapuskasing Structural Zone in the north central Sherlock Township, N.T.S. 42-B-7, within the Porcupine Mining Division, in Northeastern Ontario. The nearest community in the area is Elsas, a small hamlet located on the C.N.R. mainline approximately 60 km northwest of Foleyet, Ontario. Access to the property can be gained by rail or float-plane from Foleyet.

CONCLUSIONS ; . t

The claims area is devoid of outcrop except for the extreme east boundary, where a prominent ridge exposes mafic to intermediate ortho-gneiss and intercalated metasediments. A thin, 4 to 6 cm band of disseminated pyrrhotite within a 10 - 20 cm wide siliceous unit occurs within the mafic gneiss at the extreme south end of the property.

PROPERTY STATUS

The property consists of six unpatented mining claims numbered P-725930 to P-725933 inclusive, P-725936 and P-725937. Staking was carried out July 2, 1983 and claims were recorded August 3, 1983. A 6.025 km grid and baseline was cut and mapping was carried out on August 5, 1983 over the six claims.

TOPOGRAPHY

The property straddles a height of land between the Nemegosenda River to the east and the south end of Kapuskasing Lake to the west, attaining a maximum of 75 feet of relief. The area is covered by overmature stands of poplar with interspersed birch, spruce and cedar. Undergrowth of alder and hazel is very thick.

Page 5: GEOL SHERLOCK 1-83 PROPERTY€¦ · extreme south end of the property. PROPERTY STATUS The property consists of six unpatented mining claims numbered P-725930 to P-725933 inclusive,

PREVIOUS WORK

There is no recorded work in the vicinity of the claims. Considerable work has been carried out to the east of the property by Genesco Resources and Kennco Explorations Ltd. during the period of 1968-1970, on a 56 claim group which straddles the Sherlock-Shenango Township boundary. The claims covered a regional oval magnetic anomaly and the property was surveyed by ground magnetometer, E.M. -16 (V.L.F.) and I.P.surveys. One hole drilled on the northwest flank of the magnetic anomaly showed nothing of interest.

REGIONAL GEOLOGY

The Oatland project area is situated within the Kapuskasing Structural Zone, a northeast trending zone of high grade-metamorphic rocks. The structure appears to be fault bounded on the southeast but displays a gradational contact to the west into low grade volcanic rocks of the Michipicoten-Wawa greenstonebelt.

The Kapuskasing Structural Zone comprises generally northeast-striking, northwest dipping belts of mafic, intermediate and felsic volcanic gneisses and broad areas of sedimentary gneiss. The southern part of the Oatland project area "has been intruded by the Shenango alkali intrusive complex.

The Shenango complex is composed of a monzonitic core and a peripheral unit of syenodiorite and hornblende syenite. Numerous offshoots-of hornblende syenite occur to the northwest of the main intrusive body.

The orientation of gneissosity and lithological contacts make up the prominent east-northeast structural grain of the structural zone. The gneissosity in all rock types is folded about gently plunging northeast trending axes. Plunge reversals are common and can be related to a gently southeast plunging warp axis.

Faulting in the area is predominantly northeast with diabase dykes occupying many of the fault zones. Locally cataclastic gneissic breccias are recognized.

Overall metamorphism in the structural zone is granulite facies with local areas of retrograde metamorphism to upper greenschist facies.

PROPERTY GEOLOGY

Outcrop is limited to the extreme south boundary of the property, where a sequence of mafic to intermediate gneisses with intercalated metasedimentary gneiss form a prominent east-west trending ridge.

MAFIC GNEISS

Mafic units within the sequence are l to 3 meters thick and are composed of coarse amphibole and plagioclase. Garnets are sometimes common as bands within the mafic units.

INTERMEDIATE GNEISS '

Mafic gtTeisses grade into less amphibolitic intermediate gnesses with abundant plagioclase and 5-10 percent free quartz. Garnets are more" common, occuring throughout the units and as bands concentrated in areas of abundant amphibole.

SEDIMENTARY GNEISS

Sedimentary gneisses are characterized by a granoblastic texture and an abundance of free quartz. Mafic minerals consist of black to brown amphibole and biotite. Plagioclase and quartz are present in roughly equal proportions and make up 60 to 80 percent of the rock. Garnet is ubiquitous in the sedimentary gneisses.

MINERALIZATION

A thin, 4 to 6 cm wide band of disseminated pyrrohotite occurs within a deeply weathered, granular'siliceous unit 10 to 20 cm thick at the extreme south end of the property. This siliceous unit occurs within a sequence of mafic gneisses on the south flank of the ridge cutting across the property.

The rock units making up the ridge strike north to northwest and dip 15 to 55 degrees southeast.

Notice of Intent

for Technical Reports

1984 10 15

2.7187/311/84

An examination of your survey report indicates that the requirements of The Ontario Mining Act have not been fully met to warrant maximum assessment work credits. This notice is merely a warning that you will not be allowed the number of assessment work days credits that you expected and also that in approximately 15 days from the above date, the mining recorder will be authorized to change the entries on his record sheets to agree with the enclosed statement. Please note that until such time as the recorder actually changes the entry on the record sheet, the status of the claim remains unchanged.

If you are of the opinion that these changes by the mining recorder will jeopardize your claims, you may during the next fifteen days apply to the Mining and Lands Commissioner for an extension of time. Abstracts should be sent with your application.

If the reduced rate of credits does not jeopardize the status of the claims then you need not seek relief from the Mining and Lands Commissioner and this Notice of Intent may be disregarded.

If your survey was submitted and assessed under the "Special Provision-Performance and Coverage" method and you are of the opinion that a re-appraisal under the "Man-days" method would result in the approval of a greater number of days credit per claim, you may, within the said fifteen day period, submit assessment work breakdowns listing the employees names, addresses and the dates and hours they worked. The new work breakdowns should be submitted direct to the Land Management Branch, Toronto. The report will be re-assessed and a new statement of credits based on actual days worked will be issued.

Dear Sir:

Enclosed are two copies of a Notice of Intent with statements listing a reduced rate of assessment work credits to be allowed for a technical survey. Please forward one copy to the recorded holder of the claims and retain the other. In approximately fifteen days from the above date, a final letter of approval of these credits will be sent to you. On receipt of the approval letter, you may then change the work entries on the claim record sheets. For further information, if required, please contact Mr. R.J. Pichette at 416/965-4888.
