interest in a group of mining claims,in the southwest section of CassonMining Division in the District of
The services of this author were retained to write a report on the results of a VLF Electromagnetic survey which was completed over a portion of two claims of the group.
The field work was completed by Mr. C. R. Beaudin during the latter part of September 1992.
This report will deal with the results of the EM Survey which were completed to test the ground for electrically charged units which may be favourable areas for gold or base metal deposition.
LOCATION AND ACCESS
The Mayer Block of claims are located in the southwest portion of Casson Township which is approximately 35 Km north-northeast of the Town of Thessalon. More specifically the group is located immediately west of Wakomata Lake. Refer to figure l and 2 of the report .

The unit i s a one man portable unit which operates off of a set frequency transmitting from a number of locations across the continent.
For this particular survey, a frequency of 24.0 Khz was used which transmitts from Cutler, Maine. This Survey is a quick yet efficient means of testing an area for electrically charged units. However, one should keep in mind that this unit is also susceptible to geological noise, outcrop to swamp contacts, creeks and lakes, as well as conductive zones. Therefore, one should be careful when interpretating just VLF data.
SURVEY PROCEDURE
The western section of claims SSM1024374 and SSM1024383 were covered by the VLF survey. Four grid lines were read across the claims commencing on the south boundary and running north for 800 meters to the north boundary. In all, approximately 3.2 Km of lines were read.
The four lines were spaced 50 meters apart and were chained at 25 meter intervals from 0+00 to 800MN Dip angle measurements were recorded at each station.
The field procedure is as follows. At each station the VLF unit is rotated to obtain a null which orientates the unit to the transmission station. The unit is then tipped north or south until a null is obtained once again. a reading is then taken in degrees and recorded.
For this particular survey, a true cross over would be north dips to south dips or positive to negative when traversing south to north.
The collected data was then plotted onto a basemap at ascale of 1:2500 and profiled at 1CM to = /- 2 0 ife. This map isincluded in the back pocket of this report.
SURVEY RESULTS
The VLF survey was successful in outlining several responses on the grid. The strongest response is located on Grid line A at 112 MN. Here the response is quite uniform and may continuewest off of the grid. This feature should be followed up further.
A second zone strikes across lines A, B and may extend as far as line D. The feature is situated at 450MN to 510MN. The feature is representative of a narrow, weak source somewhat spotty. Perhaps prospecting the zone may locate the source.
Page 3
The third feature is a short zone striking across lines A and B at 700 to 730MN. Again this feature appears to be moderate to weak which may however relate to the angle of the zone with respect to the survey lines. The zone may parallel the grid somewhat. Again prospecting may locate the sources.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The VLF survey was successful in locating 3 areas of interest. However, as is the case when just interpreting the VLF data, it is difficult to be more exact with the interpretation.
The single line response on line A at 112N does have moderate to good strength and may extend to the west. It should be followed up further.
The remaining zones should also be followed-up to test their validity.
a follow-up program should consist of a detailed magnetic survey as well as an HLEM survey to test each feature for dip, depth, conductivity and continuity. Prospecting of each zone may locate the zones source.
Respectfully Submitt

APPENDIX A
CRONE GEOPHYSICS LIMITED
RADEM VLF EM RECEIVER
An EM receiver measuring the FIELD STRENGTH,
DIP ANGLE and QUADRATURE components of the VLF
communications stations.
This is a rugged, simple to operate, ONE MAN EM unit. It can be used without line cutting and is thus ideally suited for
GROUND LOCATION OF AIRBORNE CONDUCTORS and RECONNAISANCE SURVEYS of MINERAL SHOWINGS.
This instrument utilizes higher than normal EM frequencies and is capable of detecting poorly conductive sulphide deposits
and fault zones. It accurately isolates BANDED CONDUCTORS and operates through areas of HIGH POWERLINE NOISE
The method is capable of deep penetration but due to the high frequency used its penetration is limited in areas of clay and
conductive overburden.
The DIP ANGLE measurement detects a conductor from a considerable distance and is used primarily for locating conductor.
The FIELD STRENGTH measurement is used to define the shape and attitude of the conductor.
