STZ’UMINUS FIRST NATION Employment Counsellor STZ’UMINUS FIRST NATION – Ladysmith, BC Stz’uminus First Nation is a progressive Nation with a membership of 1,300 people located on beautiful Vancouver Island in Western British Columbia. Stz’uminus is led by forward thinkers and is situated among an extensive array of urban amenities, making it an excellent place for a career and raising a family. As an ideal candidate and reporting to the Senior Community Manager, you will bring proven abilities in working with clients, assisting them with their career decision making process and helping them overcome barriers to employment. Personally you will be a role model for the Stz’uminus First Nation values of leadership, integrity, collaboration, inclusiveness, and diversity. Rounding out your traits will be a strong desire to protect and promote our cultural heritage. Core responsibilities of the position include:
Case Management including interviewing clients, conducting vocational assessments and counselling
Identifying barriers to employment and helping clients acquire job readiness skills, undertake job searches, write resumes and prepare for job interviews
Liaising with government and industry agencies to promote employment opportunities for band members
Collecting statistical information from all members for input into the employment database for analysis to determine community needs
Providing referrals to various local Municipal resources, internal and other external agencies/departments
Continually researching local and broader labour market conditions and trends Setting up systems and processes related to employment counselling and programs
Education, Skills and Qualifications:
A Diploma/Certificate in Career Management, Employment Services or Career Development is an asset
Must be able to pass a criminal record check with a venerable sector check Must have and maintain a Valid BC Driver’s License

ThisEnhancedRoadBuildingFoundationprogramhasbeendevelopedwiththesupportoftheBCRoadBuilders&HeavyConstructionAssociationasapre-employmentprogram.Itgivesanoverviewoftheindustryincluding:
• Safeworkpractices• Environmentalrequirements• Orientationstoequipmentandtools• Introductiontoprinciplesofcivilengineering
TheFoundationprogramwillsatisfythepre-requisiterequirementsfortheITAHEOTechnician(Apprenticeship)program.Thefollowingcertificationsareprovided:
