Georgia Minority SupplierDevelopment Council

2017Annual Report

To certify, develop and connect minority businesses with corporate and government

partners. To ensure mutual success by assisting minority business enterprises to achieve

a level of competency and capacity that enables them to compete as viable suppliers in

globalized supply chains, thereby enabling corporations to accelerate efficiencies including

growing their corporate business.

Certify – the GMSDC verifies the business documentation and the ethnic minority

ownership of companies that want to do business with corporate partners. The most

well known brands in corporate America turn to the GMSDC for reliable and trustworthy

suppliers. There are free pre-certification sessions to provide information to small businesses

interested in certification.

Develop – the GMSDC enhances the opportunities for MBE success by delivering a full

slate of educational programs and other activities that build capacity and increase MBE

competitiveness. The GMSDC Academy develops curriculum and customizes programs

designed to meet the needs of both the MBE community and the corporate partners.

Connect – the GMSDC introduces certified MBEs to corporations and governments that

look to the Council for qualified minority suppliers. Through a series of Signature Events,

conferences, workshops, matchmaking sessions and networking opportunities, the GMSDC

provides to the small business owner a level of access that is unmatched in any other forum.

Advocate – the GMSDC is actively engaged in promoting inclusive procurement,

communicating the value of supplier diversity and helping corporate partners to improve

and expand their programs. As the state of Georgia’s leading advocacy organization for

supplier diversity and small business development, the GMSDC exerts influence in the halls

of government and all segments of the business community.

The GMSDC Board of Directors and your leadership team are proud to present to you the 2017 Annual Report. The GMSDC remains one of the nation’s top supplier diversity and small business development organizations, and we have you to thank for that. We challenged you to Own The Moment in 2017, and did you ever respond! Thank you for your time, your talent, your engagement and your support – our community came together for business partnerships that produced a record year for our Council. The economy of the great state of Georgia continues to grow and expand, which creates many opportunities for the GMSDC family to prosper in the years ahead. This Annual Report will provide a summary of the many accomplishments, milestones and achievements that made 2017 such a phenomenal year.

To Own The Moment required us to embrace the disruptions of a rapidly evolving marketplace and utilize them to our advantage. With an economy that is growing in so many sectors, a business owner must be laser focused and fully intentional about who his customers are, what they require and how his company stands out from the crowd. The GMSDC family accepted the challenge and thrived, as the numbers for 2017 will attest. We restructured our annual conference format into a Business Opportunity Exchange, where the sessions and activities were more targeted and specific to the needs of our constituents. We made changes to our programming in response to feedback from you, resulting in a new look for the GMSDC that was even more responsive. 170 new MBEs and 10 new corporate partners joined our Council in 2017, continuing the strong pattern of growth from the year before. We increased our revenues by 10 percent and saw Georgia MBEs win 2 of the 4 NMSDC Supplier of the Year categories at the national conference. The GMSDC is on a roll, and we thank you for your contributions in 2017.

As you review our recent accomplishments, let’s not lose focus on the wonderful mix of opportunities that exist here in Georgia. We are looking forward to great things from you, as our Council continues to rise to the top. If you commit to Own the Moment and set the bar high, we will sustain our strong performance for the foreseeable future. Let’s be intentional about pushing the envelope for long term success and prosperity.

Thank you again for your engagement.
