USA Today/NFCA Top 25Minnesota: Georgia earned a 5-2 win over Minnesota when the Gophers came to Athens in 2012. The Bulldogs used a three-run first inning to propel them to victory, notching six hits in the game. Minnesota totaled four hits while committing two errors. It was the third-straight win in the all-time series for Georgia after recording two shutout victories in 2010.

CORTNI SETS NEW CAREER HIGH FOR RBI WITH TRIPLE VS. UCLACortni Emanuel set a new career high with three RBI against No. 10 UCLA. One swing of the bat brought in all three scores, as Cortni hit her first triple of the season and second of her career. The sophomore notched a three-base hit last year in game one of a doubleheader against Savannah State.

PUAILOA POSTS TRIO OF MULTI-HIT GAMESKaylee Puailoa hit the ball well back in her home state, notching three games with two hits in each. The senior opened the weekend going 2-for-3 against LIU Brooklyn and Cal State Fullerton where she scored the winning run off of an Alyssa DiCarlo triple. She then added two hits in the comeback win over Northwestern, hitting .500 with two RBI. Puailoa now has seven multi-hit games this season and 46 in her career.

GRAND SLAM FOR IOSEFAAfter LIU Brooklyn decided to intentionally walk Alex Hugo to load the bases with two outs, Tina Iosefa made them pay for their decision, sending a long ball over right field for her first career grand slam. It was the third home run of the year for the senior, tying the team high, while No. 35 of her career. It’s the second grand slam the Bulldogs have hit this season, as Hugo sent one over left field against Winthrop.

MCGUIRE STEPS UP IN CALI GAMESConsistently solid behind the plate, Maeve McGuire was just as stellar at the plate in California, leading the team with a .643 average. With nine hits and five runs, the junior sparked a comeback against Cal State Fullerton, hitting a leadoff home run in the fourth for her first of the season. The Illinois native had two perfect batting games, going 3-for-3 versus LIU Brooklyn before posting a career-best four hits in the finale against San Jose State. McGuire leads the team with eight multi-hit games this year.

BULLDOGS TOP IN NATIONAL STATSGeorgia has held the top spot as the nation’s best batting average and on-base percentage the past two weeks. The Bulldogs hit .377 last weekend while posting an on-base percentage of .464, moving their season averages to .411 and .524, respectively. Four Bulldogs rank in the top 100 for batting average while five are in the top 100 nationally for on-base percentage.

BULLDOGS MOVE IN NATIONAL POLLSWith one loss in its record last weekend, Georgia moved in this week’s national polls. The Bulldogs are now No. 9 in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 while down to No. 11 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball List. Georgia is one of nine SEC teams in the top 25 while one of five in the top 10 of the NFCA poll. Minnesota will be the second ranked opponent Georgia faces this season, as the Bulldogs fell to then-No. 10 UCLA in California.

MINNESOTA COACH ALLISTER FORMER BULLDOG ASSISTANTAt the helm of Minnesota softball for six seasons, Jessica Allister got her start in the coaching world in the Classic City. Allister served as an assistant coach under Georgia head coach Lu Harris-Champer for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. The Bulldogs recorded over 50 wins in both of those years while winning the SEC Regular-Season Championship in 2005 and East Champs in 2006. In 2005, Georgia advanced to Super Regionals, falling a game short of the Women’s College World Series.

TRIO OF BULLDOGS NAMED TO USA SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR WATCH LISTGeorgia softball’s seniors Alex Hugo and Chelsea Wilkinson along with sophomore Cortni Emanuel were each selected to the Top 50 “Watch List” for the 2016 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. Georgia is one of eight SEC schools with a student-athlete on the list, as 15 conference players were named. The three honorees are also tied for the most among all schools with Michigan and LSU.

The Top 25 Finalists for the 2016 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced April 13. While an athlete does not have to be on the “Watch List” to be considered for the Top 25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the Top 25 Finalists. The Top 10 Finalists will be announced May 11 and the Top 3 announced May 25. The 2016 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed May 31.

CHALLENGING 2016 SCHEDULEThe challenges will come in plenty in the Bulldogs’ schedule with 12 foes claiming a spot in a 2015 NCAA Regional along with five of the eight teams in last year’s Women’s College World Series, including Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee and UCLA. Of the 36 opponents on the slate, 23 ranked in the top 100 RPI by the end of the 2015 season, including 14 in the top 50 and five in the top 10. With nine ranked or receiving votes in the final national polls, 14 teams finished the year with 35 or more wins, including eight with 40 or more.

MILESTONE WINSGeorgia hit its 850th program win after going 4-0 in the season’s opening weekend. The Bulldogs hold a .688 all-time winning percentage with an 859-389 mark now in its 20th season of play. Once the SEC slate begins, Georgia will need two wins to earn its 300th league victory.

HEAD COACH LU HARRIS-CHAMPERHead coach Lu Harris-Champer is entering her 20th season of coaching while her 16th at Georgia. Overall, Harris-Champer has accumulated 953 career wins, including 744 with the Bulldogs. She has guided the squads in her career to four Women’s College World Series, eight Super Regionals and 18 Regional berths. Harris-Champer has reached 40 or more wins in 18 of 19 seasons coaching and has never had a losing overall record.

NEW COACHESGeorgia welcomes two new coaches to its staff in assistant coach Rachele Fico and volunteer assistant coach Nick French. Fico was a two-time All-American pitcher at LSU and comes to Athens after serving as pitching coach at top-25 program South Alabama. Spending the last four years at Holy Cross, French comes to Georgia with experience from coaching at Arizona and Memphis as well.

Series HistoryWINNING TRADITIONSince the opening season in 1997, Georgia has accumulated 859 wins, including 298 in SEC action. A majority of those wins have come under the helm of Lu Harris-Champer, 744 to be exact in her 16 years in the Classic City. The Bulldogs have had 14-straight seasons with 40 or more wins, including seven of those with 50 or more victories.

Over the last 10 years, Georgia has posted 472 wins, which ranks as the eighth most in the nation, putting the Bulldogs with a .732 winning percentage. The team’s 229 wins over the last five years also ranks among the top 10 nationally.

POSTSEASON STAPLEThe Bulldogs have made themselves a mainstay in NCAA Championship action, making it to a NCAA Regional in each of the past 14 seasons. Its stellar track record into the postseason slate puts Georgia as one of 11 teams in the nation to appear in a Regional for 14 or more straight years. Within that realm, Georgia is one of three Southeastern Conference teams to produce such success.

Georgia isn’t just a staple in Regional fields, but also into the next round, appearing in eight Super Regionals since 2005. The Bulldogs have made it to Super Regionals the last two seasons, just one of 12 teams to do so.

The pinnacle of college softball is in Oklahoma City, and Georgia made back-to-back showings at the Women’s College World Series in 2009 and 2010, finishing as one of the last four teams standing in both.

JACK TURNER STADIUMThe Bulldog softball team will play its 13th season in the multi-million dollar Jack Turner Stadium in 2016. The grandstands hold close to 1,400 fans with additional standing room while outfield seating was added in 2015. The Jack Turner Stadium, named for the late Jack Turner thanks in part to gifts from himself and his son Jimmy Turner, has been chosen to host eight NCAA Regionals and four NCAA Super Regionals since its inception in 2004. Georgia is 360-77 since Jack Turner Stadium opened while 493-138 in all home games. Jack Turner Stadium saw its top crowd of 1,986 against Tennessee in 2013 while its top attendance in 2015 was versus Florida with 1,848 fans in the stands.
