Capelliad_June_2013_resize.indd 1 13-05-21 8:45 AM

June was jam packed with fundraisers and community events, once again. I can’t imagine ever getting bored in this neck of the woods! Whether you were slinging mud at Metcon Blue or drinking margaritas in the valley, I hope you enjoyed a fun-filled month with friends and family. This issue is a whoppin’ 36 pages of smiling faces and stories about the interesting people who live, work, and play here in the Georgian Triangle.

July is going to be a hot one I’m sure! Whether you are a fan of the heat or not, there will be plenty of things to do this month to keep you entertained.

It will be a very busy summer in all of our communities for people who come here seeking the hot sand and cool water of Georgian Bay, the adreneline rush of the many outdoor activites or the hip-shakin’ tunes of Elvis!

Check out page 34 for the Summer Essentials List. Get your family active this summer with this selection of kid friendly ways to have fun together. (Even if you don’t have kids - this could be a “bucket list” for young at heart adults too!) As well, page 12 has a full page of events happening in our communities.

This issue went to print on the 28th of June so we were not able to capture Canada’s biggest birthday party and all the festivities that happened, but be sure to watch for the red & white in the August issue.

With summer in full swing and long and warm days ahead, slap on the sunscreen, jump in the bay and enjoy!

Have a wonderful July! Stay cool and see you out there! Selena

The Big Red Bike Rides Into Collingwood

for it’s annual fundraiser in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. As in years, past a good number of teams participated and, once again greatly needed dollars were raised for this very deserving cause... and of course, as always, participants had a blast riding around town both raising awareness for Heart & Stroke and receiving ‘honks of support’ from local motorists and passersby. Job well done organizers and teams! Photos/Story: Dave West Photography

Blue Mountain BBQ Championships

Hot! The weather and the awesome barbequed offerings at the 2nd Annual Blue Mountain BBQ Championships. Judging must have been terribly difficult and based on the satisfied smiles from the sauce covered faces of the crowd, there was no doubt that each team prepared mouthwatering entries but as in all competition a winner must be declared. While several teams were recognized for their ‘grill skills’, Cam Dyment and his team from TheSmoke in Collingwood took home the overall Grand Champion trophy and along with it an automatic entry into the World Food Championships this coming November in Las Vegas. Very impressive as this was their first time in a sanctioned BBQ contest and they were up against very experienced teams with many championships under their belts. Sam Roberts Band at the New Farm

New Farm owners, Brent Preston and Gillian Flies, hosted the Sam Roberts Band, winners of six Juno awards. Their Rock and Roll style music has done well on Canadian music charts. Chefs from 11 different restaurants and food establishments, both Toronto-based and local, served up delectable delights before the show. Like previous shows at the New Farm, this event was a fundraiser for Grow for the Stop, a Toronto-based organization that serves local, quality, organic food to people in need. An evening of great food, good music and family fun in a rural setting. Photos/Story: Bryan Davies Photography

Big Brothers Big Sisters Annual Awards

We are blessed to have so many wonderful charitable organizations within Collingwood and the Southern Georgian Bay region, but I have to admit while I love, support and applaud the efforts of all of them, I have a particular ‘soft spot’ in my heart for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters. I think it has to do with the smiles on the faces of the ‘littles’ as they share their joy and appreciation for the time spent, the adventures shared and the fun that they have experienced with their ‘bigs’ that they might otherwise not had the opportunity to enjoy. It is indeed a very wonderful and heartwarming experience. Among many recognized at this year’s awards dinner, Little Sisters Savvy, Gabby, Megan and Kyla, received the annual Jim Otterson Recognition Awards from Suzanne (widow of the late Big Brother Jim Otterson). A tremendous evening as always and even more remarkable organization! Photos/Story: Dave West Photography

Hiking for a great cause!

On Sunday May 26th, Hospice Georgian Triangle (HGT) held three Hikes in the area to help raise funds for Hospice’s New Palliative Care Residence for which construction is scheduled to start this summer on property located between the G&M Hospital and Sunset Manor. The hikes were held at Scenic Caves with 150+, Collingwood Curling Club with 250+ and the RecPlex in Wasaga Beach where there were 150+ participating. The hike was followed by a BBQ lunch and recognition of the top teams and individuals. Hospice wishes to recognize the Rotary Club of Wasaga for their partnership in organizing the Hike in their community. This was the third year for the event in the Georgian Triangle and with the solid support of corporate sponsors and the community’s generous donations, over $80,000 was raised. 100% of the money raised stays in our community and will go to the building fund. Habitat For Humanity South Georgian Bay Celebrates Their 10th Anniversary

I know that ‘time flies’ but I still find it hard to get my head around the fact that Habitat For Humanity has already been an integral and vital part of our community for a decade. Perhaps it’s the fact that they have accomplished so much in such a short period of time. Over and above the success of their very popular ReStore conveniently located at 155 Sandford Fleming Drive in Collingwood’s East End for your home renovation needs ... plug :) they are about to begin their 10th ‘build’ in as many years! Their vision: “to work in partnership with low income working families in need, by providing basic, affordable housing” has more than been accomplished and with the support of local businesses and the community their mission carries on. A nice touch for the evening of celebration was the inclusion of the Miller Family as they were the grateful homeowners of the first ‘build’ in our region! Thanks to all for your ongoing support and keep up the great work! Photos/Story: Dave West Photography

All About the GTHS

When you are looking to adopt your next furry friend, where would you look? When you find a sick, stray animal, who would you turn to for help? If you lost

your pet, who would you call? The answer: The Georgian Triangle Humane Society.

The Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS) is a registered charity and Ontario SPCA Affiliate, dedicated to helping animals in need and finding them their forever homes. They do not receive any provincial or federal funding, but

instead rely on the generosity of their supporters and annual fundraising events. The organization serves the Georgian Triangle area, including the communities of Stayner, Creemore, Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Town of the Blue Mountains, Thornbury, Clarksburg and Meaford.

Founded in 1999, the organization was first named the Collingwood and District Humane Society. In later years, the name was changed to Georgian Bay Animal Rescue, and then ultimately, the Georgian Triangle Humane Society, which it remains today. In 2012, GTHS celebrated the official grand opening of their shelter, located at 549 Tenth Line in Collingwood.

For anybody that has visited the shelter, they immediately recognize that it is not your average animal shelter. Gone are the days of individual cages and sad little eyes peering at you from behind bars – instead this nearly new building boasts a more modern layout, including communal cat rooms and individual dog runs, keeping the four-legged kind extremely happy! For those looking to adopt their next pet, GTHS

is definitely the place to find them. At any given time, the shelter has up to 100 kittens/cats and up to 15 puppies/dogs.

Can’t have a cat or dog at home? There are MANY ways to support GTHS! Stop by their retail store, Treasure Tails, located at 186 Hurontario Street – the stores’ proceeds help to care for more animals in need. You can also volunteer at the Shelter or Treasure Tails, participate in one of GTHS’ fundraising events, become a member or make a donation. For more information and a list of upcoming events, please visit www.gths.ca today! The GTHS is an Affiliate of the Ontario SPCA.

PS. Dog lovers are reminded to check out GTHS’ website for more information on their 1st Annual Dogfest and Walk-a-thon taking place on Sunday August 18th at the GTHS Shelter. Join them for a fantastic day of “all things dog” - from agility demonstrations, to doggy vendor booths, an “ask the Expert” table, and a low-cost microchip clinic – the day is bound to be a hit with both the two and four-legged kind!

EXPOLARATIONS GREEN DAY CAMP

A day at Explorations Green Summer Day Camp is filled with cycling, team games, outdoor adventures and learning about our environment! Camp drop off is at sunset point where opening ceremonies take place. Each week the counselors have great adventures and educational games planned based on the weekly themes Water Works, Energize This, Wasteland Warriors, Envirosurvivor and Food Frenzy. The adventures then begin as the groups gear up on their bicycles and ride off to a variety of destinations all using the Collingwood Trails Network. Collingwood has many public places and parks to offer where the campers enjoy games and discover the different types of relationships between people and the environment. Campers also get to enjoy swimming at our local pool twice a week along with river trekking in Pretty River.

Explorations Green Summer Day Camp offers campers a unique experience to explore, challenge themselves, collaborate with others, leadership, stewardship and to discover in a fun and safe environment. We invite your child to come and experience the wonder of nature while learning how to care for our environment and ourselves for today and on into the future!

Camp Day an amazing success!

Each year, the first Wednesday in June is Tim Hortons Camp Day. Camp Day is the one day each year when Tim Hortons restaurant owners donate 100 per cent of the proceeds from coffee sales to the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation (THCF), making it the Foundation’s largest fundraiser each year. Thanks to the generous support of Tim Hortons Restaurant Owners and their loyal guests, Camp Day 2013 was a huge success, raising an incredible $11.8 million for the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation. The funds raised on Camp Day will positively impact over 16,000 economically disadvantaged who attend camp with the Foundation in 2013. Photos: Dave West Photography

The New Blue Artists raise funds for the Collingwood G&M

The young artists of the New Blue Artists Group held a Spring Art Show. Each entry was framed and hung on display and parents, family, friends were invited to view and bid on the pieces. The show generated $1100 for the Collingwood G&M Hospital Foundation. The artists, ages 6+ were able to use any type of medium to create their masterpieces. The show was held on May 9th in the Collingwood Library. The group also offered a New Blue Jr.’s wall for ages 1 to 5 yrs. “We have some budding artists in our community” say show organizers, Kathy Keating, Loo McNulty and Gigi Worts, “and we thought their work needed to be shared and enjoyed. Our kids see the target fundraising signs for the hospital around town and they want to know how they can contribute. It was the perfect way for them to give back”.The group hopes to host the show bi-annually or annually to highlight the children’s work and to help give back to their community.

Here is a list of some easy things to do to help keep your garden under control and looking good throughout the summer season.

• Prune back your rose bushes after the fi rst bloom. You can either dead head the spent blooms or do a major cutting back to keep them tame and under control. Cut back all weak and dead wood as well. Lastly, clean up all spent leaves—especially if they suffered from black spot.

• Continue to pinch back all late summer and fall perennials to keep them bushy and healthy and to stagger blooming times.

• Finish pruning all spring blooming bushes such as azaleas, rhododendrons, lilacs by mid-summer so that they can begin their new growth for next spring.

• It is still not too late to plant summer blooming bulbs like dahlias or cannas. It’s also not too late to plant quick-blooming summer seeds such as sunfl owers, nasturtiums and cosmos.

Enjoy and have patience during the ensuing hot summer months!

‘Goblin’ Blanket Flower Photo: (cc)Far Out Flora/Flickr

Red ValerianPhoto: (cc) Clatie K/Flickr

‘Moonbeam’ Threaded CoreopsiPhoto: (cc) Tom Beck/Flickr

‘Pink Jewel’ Daisy FleabanePhoto: (cc) Ceasol/Flickr

Plant these flowers for a garden that blooms during summer’s hottest weather. Only the toughest perennials can endure summer’s long, hot, sunny days. But tough perennials can still be beautiful and charming—like these four recommended by Jeff Cox.

‘Goblin’ Blanket Flower Blanket flower is a durable plant, too, with a toughness that comes from its origins in western North America. It can survive in hot, dry soil, in poor soil, and even in seaside conditions. The lifespan of any individual ‘Goblin’ is variable, and this is perhaps its only flaw. Some may die out after 2 years; others may live on for many more. In cold regions where snow cover is chancy, a layer of leaf mulch will help it through the winter. ‘Goblin’ has 3-to-4-inch-wide flowers with dark purplish maroon centers and ray petals of rich red tipped with bright golden yellow. ‘Goblin’ begins blooming in June and continues through the summer. ‘Goblin’ is a supremely useful plant on south-facing banks, in thin soils, and in other trouble spots where more finicky perennials won’t grow. Its low habit and masses of warm-coloured flowers make ‘Goblin’ just right for growing at the front of a planting of taller perennials in other warm shades or in cooler blue tones.

Red Valerian If every perennial were as easy to grow as red valerian, we could plant up a garden and forget it. Red valerian’s thousands of tiny florets cluster in dense showy heads held above bushy, fleshy, gray-green foliage. The flowers have a nice but not strong fragrance, and the flowerheads will last a full week when cut for an arrangement in the house. Red valerian thrives in just about any soil and conditions except wet, boggy shade. It is drought-tolerant to the point where it naturalizes in many parts of the West where summer water is sparse. Use red valerian to bring easy, long-lasting colour to steep banks, on rough slopes, or along the roadside. Some people might describe its growth habit as “floppy,” but I prefer to call it “relaxed.” Either way, red valerian looks lovely growing where it can cascade gracefully—over a wall, for instance.

‘Moonbeam’ Threaded CoreopsisThe first thing you notice about this all-star is the beautiful, pale yellow colour of its wide, daisylike flowers. The colour looks good with just about any other colour in the garden. The flowers are neat and tidy with dark, golden centers and are produced in upright, wiry-stemmed sprays that cover the tops of the foliage from late June all the way to the frost. In addition to its galaxy of golden flowers, ‘Moonbeam’ has fine, ferny, threadlike foliage. Given all the large-leaved plants in the perennial garden, what a relief to have an all-star with foliage that can provide some contrast. The pale yellow ‘Moonbeam’ flowers contrast beautifully with rich purples and blues, and is one of the few yellow shades that sets off pink hues to advantage. Create drifts of ‘Moonbeam’ to tie together stronger flower colours and bolder foliage textures in your perennial garden. ‘Moonbeam’ makes a great container plant, too, and is tough enough to fill a hanging basket in a sunny spot.

‘Pink Jewel’ Daisy FleabaneThey are truly garden workhorses, blooming from June right through the hot summer into September. The flowers reach 2 inches across, with prominent centers that change from green to yellow. A profusion of slender ray petals, resembling finely cut fringe, surrounds the centers. The petal colour is a bright, striking pink with a hint of blue in the hue. This plant is tough enough for full, hot sun, but also tolerates light shade. ‘Pink Jewel’ is a true low-maintenance plant. ‘Pink Jewel’ is a first-class border plant. It looks good in front of stone walls, and has a definite place in the sunny perennial garden. The plants hold their flowers atop long stalks that lend themselves to cutting for arrangements in the house.

County of Simcoe’s half-million dollar investment in two Georgian College campuses supports residents across region.Warden Cal Patterson and members of County Council visited Georgian College on Wednesday to present a $500,000 cheque to support learning opportunities that benefit students from across the entire region.

The gift is part of the County’s $4-million multi-year pledge to the college, which has four campuses within Simcoe County in Barrie, Orillia, Midland and Collingwood.

To date, the County has invested $2.2 million in local postsecondary education at Georgian, primarily in support of the Sadlon Centre for Health and Wellness at the Barrie Campus and the John Di Poce South Georgian Bay Campus.

“Our students, the surrounding community and employers all benefit because these facilities exist,” says MaryLynn West-Moynes, President and CEO of Georgian College. “It is because of education champions like the County of Simcoe that Georgian College has increased enrolment by 83 per cent over the past 10 years, offering more space, a technology-enhanced learning environment, and relevant, hands-on work experience, all designed to prepare the region’s future workforce.”

Both the Sadlon Centre for Health and Wellness and the John Di Poce Campus are equipped with modern technologies such as videoconferencing equipment that allows students to access lectures and workshops hosted elsewhere without having to leave Simcoe County.

“County Council recognizes the importance of continually enhancing access to postsecondary education. We want our residents to be able to study, train and work locally,” says Warden Patterson. Submitted by Amanda Lucas

Share the Road - It’s Everyone’s Responsibility

As the summer season gets underway, the Southern Georgian Bay Share the Road Coalition, which represents a number of area municipalities, local cycling groups and several not for profit organizations is urging motorists and cyclists to take a responsible approach when using local roads and highways.

Despite what some may think, motorists aren’t always the bad guys. There are plenty of examples of thoughtless behaviour on both sides –drivers who overtake cyclists with just a hand’s width of clearance or inconsiderate cyclists who fill country roads with their lengthy training exercises. Remember The Highway Traffic Act applies to both groups of users.

Motorists; treat a bicycle as you would any slow moving vehicle. Expect to see cyclists on the road. Cyclists may ride one metre from the road edge but can occupy any part of the lane if it’s safe to do so. You may also see some cyclist riding two abreast or in groups. Remember to slow down when passing and give at least a one metre clearance. Bear in mind that cyclists are more vulnerable road users than motorists. They are smaller, quieter and have no “crumple zone.” A small mistake by a motorist can result in serious injury or death to a cyclist.

Cyclists; you have the same rights and responsibilities to obey all the applicable traffic laws as other road users. There are several sections in the Highway Traffic Act which clearly set out the rights and responsibilities of cyclists. These cover such topics as complying with traffic signals, lights and stop signs, equipment you should have on your bike – lights, bells, brakes – procedures for making turns and what to do if you are walking your bike. Remember to always ride in the same direction as traffic.

Perhaps the watchword for all road users is, “courtesy”; courtesy on the part of both cyclists and motorists. The old adage that “courtesy doesn’t cost anything” may be true but lack of courtesy on our roads can cost plenty, even lives.

Creemore Kitchen

Creemore’s newest dining experience attracted a lot of attention when it opened in June. The variety of cuisine will please anyone’s pallete. Prompt service and a warm, homey interior, made it feel like you were dining in a friend’s kitchen. Creemore Kitchen can be found across from Creemore Spring’s Brewery at 134 Mill Street. Grannies Helping African Grannies

It’s pretty neat that the Grannies in South Georgian Bay (okay, and their supporters as they’re not all Grannies) care enough about their counterparts in Africa that they continue to organize, volunteer and host various fund raising events throughout the year including the very successful annual walk ‘Stride to Turn the Tide’. Founded in 2010, this Canada wide organization has done a marvellous job in raising awareness, money and supplies, to help Grandmothers in Africa care for “millions of children orphaned by AIDS”. Quite simply, a wonderful initiative and all those who participate are to be commended and thanked for their caring and commitment to others less fortunate. Photos/Story: Dave West

Dianne’s Rose launches

Dianne's Rose is a small house/shanty/camp boat designed and built in Wasaga Beach. Roy Schreyer and his wife Dianne have been cruising Georgian Bay for many years on a small sailboat but Dianne never fully warmed up to the "tippy" side of sailing. One day she commented that she'd come out more often if they had a comfortable boat. This small houseboat, 17' x 8', is the result, and she deserves credit for the inspiration. Needing only 6" to float, it is perfect for sneaking into the shallows and pulling up to the shore. Roy designed it keeping in mind his bride's wish for comfort and the advantages they had experienced with the shallow draft their sailboat offered. Building it has taken the last two summers of weekends and the official launch was finally in Wasaga Beach on June 15th. About 30 friends came out to wish them well and they were rewarded with rides. Their intention is to use it as a cabin/cottage on land, or water. It will be docked on it's trailer most days until they're ready to explore the renowned waterways of Georgian Bay and the many surrounding lakes. The design is unique and articles have been posted on several boating web sites and printed in Small Craft Advisor Magazine. “This is a boat someone with carpentry skills can build but the main goal is to get on the water in our unique back yard, Georgian Bay.”

Performing Arts Childrens Theatre

A Town of Wasaga Beach Recreation program, run out of the Recplex, by instructor Laura LaChapelle, who has over 25 years experience as an actor and director in Community Theatre. Laura enjoys directing children because she had once started off as a child actor and still remembers the joy you get when the audience applauds for you and laughs at your jokes. Youth drama brings in so many other benefits too; it helps to build self-confidence and team strength. This Variety Show is the second production for the PACT program, last fall the group also performed “Lady & the Tramp”. The 12-week program focuses on strengthening theatre skills while blocking an entire 1-hour play. This summer, Laura will also be running a drama-themed camp program for ages 7-12 at the Recplex. Also, PACT will be back in the fall for another session. For more information contact the Recplex at 705-429-3321. Photos/Story: Bryan Davies Photography

How you think there might be something stopping you and not sure what it is? Success happens when we can move past our own limiting beliefs about what is possible. Our challenge is to move through

obstacles even when our inner voice is telling us we are not good enough and all the reasons why it will never work.

For many of us, the biggest obstacle is the person in the mirror. Too many of us have an inner dialogue that is quite often made up of statements and accusations we would never say to anyone else. Our schools are full of campaigns to stop bullying and yet the worst kind of bullying is our own inner conversations.

Most of us have grown up and spent a lifetime in these secret conversations. Are you a critic or are you a champion? Here are 5 Keys to Changing your Self Talk:

1. Listen to everything you say – to yourself and those around you and make everything you say positive 2. Be grateful – practice and embrace gratitude each and every day 3. Encourage yourself – be your own cheerleader regardless of the outcome 4. Focus on the positive – in every situation even if you have to dig to find it 5. Say to yourself what you would to someone else – go with the flow, no one is perfect all the time

Are you wondering why you should change your self talk? Meanness doesn’t motivate anyone, it beats us up until one day we say to ourselves why bother and give up in despair.

Change the talk and you change the results!

Hit the trails!

International Trails Day was celebrated in Creemore this year and was organized in partnership with the Clearview Township, Creemore BIA and the Creemore Farmers’ Market. There was a three-kilometre fun run, walk or ride to an area where a new section of trail will be built on the outskirts of the village in September. Activities on Caroline Street included a performance by Clearview Community Theatre and String Theory, a local band that covers a variety of groups. The group is comprised of Sherri Jackson (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Glenn Hoag (bass), Todd Funston (lead guitar and vocals) and Paul Popovich (drums). Students from The Danceroom, a dance school in Stayner, performed some of their dance routines. There were also arts, crafts and games for children, an OPP bike rodeo – and an appearance by Ayden Green, the young man who will ride his Catrike across Canada this summer for the United Way. Givers and Takers...

As Grand Dad once said “the world is made up of basically two kinds of people, givers and takers…” What are you going to be? You see the world is full of people who are big hearted, full of love and share it regularly with everyone they come in contact with. Then, there are those who stumble in and out our lives taking whatever they can, from whomever they come in contact, without any thought of leaving anything in return.

As I have discovered and observed, it really isn’t about being rich or poor either. I have met those who have very little in financial means and give generously of their time, energy and smiles. There are those who are well off financially, who remain miserly, tight fisted and unpleasant. They rarely have anything good to say about anything or anyone. You see, it isn’t about money but how we choose to look at life… is it about Giving or Taking? Who would you rather be around?

I have met many, like my aunt for instance, who came from a very tough background scratching by to eke out a living and put food on her table. Yet despite her meager circumstances, some of my fondest memories while growing up was her generosity. She would send us home with fresh corn, peas and other vegetables from her well attended garden each time we visited. She would always take time to make us feel loved and appreciated. You can reflect on those special souls who brighten each day, they are the givers… their legacy is in the positive difference they choose to make while enriching the lives of others each day. I have met many people, and the happiest people, rich or poor, are the ones who commit themselves to serving others first with the attitude that the world owes them nothing. I suspect they get up each day spend their own gas and drive their own car to a volunteer job just to make a difference. For some, they make a genuine personal sacrifice to serve others and in choosing to give rather than take they are truly happy.

You want to make a difference in your own life? Start by giving to others… especially those that can’t repay the favour. Phone, visit and drop by someone who is shut in or has been feeling ill. My hat goes off to all of you who choose to be givers!

Ayden Green is riding across Canada!

At the age of 5, Ayden was diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy. Although mild, he spent a lot of time in occupational therapy, physical therapy and botox therapy having to wear plastic leg braces and leg castings. At the age of 8, he was diagnosed with a non-verbal learning disability and asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism.

While Ayden was navigating all this, he never paused or forgot to smile. He had to figure out how to live in a world that expects him to adapt to it and he had some struggles.

Now he’s 14 years old and wants to give back. He still has to figure out his way in this world, but he knows he couldn’t have come this far without the support of all the doctors, nurses, therapists and organizations. Each one of them have been supported in some way by the United Way of Canada. So, you can see how proud he is to support United Way.

The new age of care campaign total jumps again!

There is no one who truly understands the cost of medical equipment and its impact on patient care more than a physician. Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Olivia Cheng, and her husband Chiropractor, Dr. Todd Starr, see firsthand the faces of the patients who are directly impacted by the New Age of Care at our local G&M Hospital.

“Todd and I live, work and play in this beautiful area and each day we meet new people who share our love of the recreational lifestyle. We also meet people who rely heavily on the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital for care. We have an incredible group of physicians here at the G&M but our medical team needs the equipment to care for our patients,” said, Dr. Cheng. “In orthopaedic surgery I use a lot of

the new equipment including the CT scanner, X-ray and ultrasound but we also take portable units directly into the operating rooms and this equipment is very costly.”

Dr. Starr shares his wife’s sentiment. “We are thrilled to be a part of this great community and Olivia and I believe that it is important that we support it as well. The G&M is our Hospital and the patients we see are very important to us. They deserve the best equipment and the best medical team to make sure they get back to their active lifestyle as quickly as possible.”

Jory Pritchard-Kerr, Executive Director of the CGMH Foundation was thrilled to hear that Olivia and Todd were making a pledge to the New Age of Care in the amount of $100,000. “This gift is such a boost to our campaign and we are so pleased that our physicians share our vision. This leadership gift brings the New Age of Care to $7.6 million which is impressive for a community of our size. Our doctors and medical staff all live in this region and are a large part of the community. In this case, Todd and Olivia work directly with our patients and see the impact this new technology is having for themselves. We are so grateful for this most generous donation to the New Age of Care.” To read more about the campaign please visit www.cgmhf.com.
