INTRODUCESelectratherm
ElectraTherm partnered with the US Department of Energy and Florida Canyon Mine to generate geothermal power in Imlay, Nevada.
Until recently, geothermal power plant development focused on multi-megawatt opportunities that required deep drilling, large capital expenditures, and multi-year time lines to implement. However, ElectraTherm’s heat-to-power technology employs easily accessible, low-temperature geothermal flows to make electricity. ElectraTherm is the world leader in low-temperature, heat-to-power technology.
The majority of geothermal resources produce low temperature hot brine flows (less than 210˚F / 100˚C), and ElectraTherm’s Green Machine can operate on resource temperatures as low as 170˚F / 77˚C.
Additionally, tens of thousands of oil & gas wells co-produce millions of barrels of hot water per day, at temperatures ideal for making power with ElectraTherm’s Green Machine. That hot water has value as a free, renewable “fuel” source to generate clean power.
The Green Machine generates power from low temperature geothermal in Oradea, Romania.

District heatinGEnergy efficiency measures on district heating and cooling applications have become increasingly important in Europe where heating represents the largest energy end-use. According to the Euro Heat and Power Association, heating represents approximately 50% of final energy consumption in Europe.
The Green Machine innovative solution replaces dated technologies with the best clean, renewable efficiency option for district heating systems in the world today.

Diagram 1 shows that with sufficient flow, two or more Green Machines can make power from a single geothermal resource.

Diagram 2 shows that two or more Green Machines can be placed in series, with residual heat from the first ORC feeding heat to the next in line.
comBination confiGUration
Diagram 3 below shows a combination of parallel and serial configurations which optimize resources for maximum electrical output.
Multiple Green Machines offer redundancy and flexibility. Capable of following a variable heat load, Green Machines can turn on or off and use variable working fluid phases to optimize power produced from fluctuations in available heat. As one machine receives maintenance, the balance of Green Machines continue to produce clean, renewable power.

District heatinG confiGUrations
As a byproduct at oil and gas wells, hot water has previously been considered a nuisance. Green Machines use co-produced water as fuel to make clean, renewable power.
After removing geothermal brine from oil and gas, hot water is readily available to produce electricity in a Green Machine ORC - for on-site use or for sale to the grid. Feed-in tariffs for renewable energy enhance the revenue opportunity in many locations.

Use feeD or retUrn lines in District heatinG networks to ProDUceelectricity
A Green Machine can produce electrical power from a district heating network with minimal impact to the temperature.
Diagram Seven shows how the Green Machine can take heat from the main stream to produce electricity while keeping the district heating network in almost identical condition.
The Green Machine can use the heat for electricity production when there is less heating demand, thereby optimizing the overall network profitability.

how it worksElectraTherm’s waste heat-to-power system uses a closed loop Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC).
Steps in the Process1) Working fluid is pumped to higher pressure and transferred to the evaporator.
2) Heat captured by the evaporator boils the working fluid into pressurized vapor.
3) The vapor flows through the twin screw expander, spinning an electric generator to produce power.
4) The vapor is cooled and condensed back into a liquid in the condenser to repeat the cycle.
