The Club also sold 54 dinners! The improved attendance and number of dinners sold resulted in only a small, negligible financial loss to the Club. However, since the attendees seemed to enjoy the music by Norm Siess Band and all of the other activities, the small loss was funds well spent. There were a fair number of costumes vying for the prizes. The Club decided last year to no longer have three categories of costumes and all costumed attendees had to march at the same time. The winning costumes were quite imaginative and well deserving of the prizes. The winners were: 1st place “American Couch Potato” Gabriella Becker 2nd place “Cereal Killer” Joselito Yambao 3rd place “Geisha Girl” Sonja Papoutsis 4th place “Jaguar” Nelly Hobrath Important: The Frühlingstanz will be on Sunday, March 5, and not on Saturday due to a mix- up in reservations by the FOP. All other details are the same as in past years. For the Frühlingstanz on March 5 Norm Siess will provide the music for the dance enthusiasts. The meal for the dance will be Leberkäse with the customary side dishes. As always, when Hartmut buys Leberkäse for the Club, he will also buy it for members. More information about this is on page 2 of this Newsletter. The membership meeting on March 15 is “Pizza Night” and is also the meeting when the members can vote for the board of directors. Please make an effort to attend this meeting and vote for the Club representative of your choice. A number of longtime members have voiced their reluctance to drive at night to attend our dances. To try to accommodate our members, the Board of Directors has decided to change our April dance to a “Senior Sock Hop” during the afternoon hours as a test run to determine if members’ attendance would improve. To this end, the doors to the FOP for the Blumentanz on April 1 will open at 12 noon; lunch (Kalte Platte plus coffee and cake) will be served from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm, and the band (Bouncing Czechs) will play from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. Hopefully, this change will allow the reluctant drivers to attend and enjoy some of the festivities. If the Board sees a marked improvement in attendance, we may permanently change at least one dance to an afternoon affair. Members have expressed their interest in Club outings. We are planning a carpool trip to the Willcox Wine Festival on Saturday, May 20. The festival starts at 11 am and last to 5 pm. The members and guests who want to participate will meet at 9:30 am at a location to be determined and carpool to Willcox. The plan is to have dinner at a restaurant of the attendees’ choice after closing of the festival. Please let me know if you are interested in participating (13 members so far). There will be more detailed information about this planned trip in the next Newsletter. I look forward to seeing all of you at the Frühlingstanz on March 5. President’s Corner Liebe Mitglieder und Freunde, Dear Members and Friends,

Attendance at our Faschingstanz was 44 members

and 23 guests compared to last year’s 33 members and 28 guests – a great improvement. The Club also sold 54 dinners! The improved attendance and number of dinners sold resulted in only a small, negligible financial loss to the Club. However, since the attendees seemed to enjoy the music by Norm Siess Band and all of the other activities, the small loss was funds well spent. Leberkäse purchase for home use Anyone wanting Leberkäse for home use will not know the exact price until they pick up their purchase at the FOP on Saturday, March 4 at 2 pm; it will probably be about $5.00 per pound. The Leberkäse is made the day before the pickup date and is fresh and uncooked. The ordering and pickup rules are as follows:

1. Deadline for calling Hartmut for Leberkäse for home use was February 22; if you missed that date, it’s too late.

2. The loaf of Leberkäse comes only in 5 pound containers.

3. Cost approximately $25.00 (could be a little more or less) for 5 pounds.

4. Pickup time is Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 pm at the FOP. Please be on time.

5. Leberkäse cannot be kept at the FOP until Sunday – the refrigerator is full.

6. Payment by check made payable to Hartmut Hausler (NOT to the GACT) or cash.

7. Any questions, please call Hartmut at 299-5262.

Thinking of you as you face your health challenges: Don Amsden, Anna and Mike Bevz, Jean Brett, Josephine Boehm, Luise Hastings, Maria Kristofl, Walt Kubis, Aggie May, Frank Ohlig, Shirley

Springborn, and Arno Tepper. Please inform a board member of any members that are ill. Election of the new board on March 15 Even though everyone is busy, I urge all the members to attend the membership meeting on March 15 to elect the new board. We need to ensure a quorum of members to be able to elect the board in a timely manner. Also, please be prepared to submit your input for potential candidates. Anyone can run for any office they choose; let the membership choose who they want on the board.

Thanks for your contributions For any club to continue to prosper and be successful, the help of many volunteers is

required. The following members deserve a big “THANK YOU” for their contributions with either hands-on activity, donations to the Club, or both at the “Faschingstanz”. I realize that several other members also may have made contributions even though they were not on my list of volunteers. I apologize for any omissions and thank those contributors as well. Please, in the future, let me know about your contribution so I can properly recognize you in the name of the Club for your commitment. Thanks again. Wendell Heckele

Translation by Erna Heckele EVERY DAY IS A GIFT!

One worries a lot and forgets about today, only thinks of tomorrow; so life goes by too fast and has little meaning. That’s why one should think that every day is a gift! Do your duty and be content, then everything else will fall into place!

Our annual picnic will be at the Crisp Ranch on Sunday, April 23 at 2 pm. The Club will be furnishing brats, beer, water, wine and sodas. Please bring a dish to share, your own table service, silverware and chairs, as well as a table if you have

one. Attendance is free for members and children of members, but guests over 12 will pay a nominal fee of $10.00. Guest children under age 6 will be free and from age 6-12 will pay $5.00. We need to know how many brats to buy so please call Anne Esborn at 477-7447 by April 17 or a sign-up sheet will be circulated at the membership meeting on March 15 so we know how many members and guests are attending.
