1.To reverse the Treaty of Versailles

2.To create a “Greater Germany” by uniting all German people.

3.To gain Lebensraum-living space for the German people.

Austria, 1934Austria was Hitler’s birthplace and German speaking state.

Hitler wanted union of all German people under Germany.

In 1934, Austrian Chancellor Dollfuss was murdered by Austrian Nazi.

The Nazis then invited Hitler to become the ruler of Austria.

Mussolini sent Italian troops to the Austrian border to prevent a German take-over.

Hitler backed down.
