    Components of the Therapy

Heal ing Your Body with the Gerson Therapy

The Gerson Therapy uses a whole-body approach to healing thatboosts your body’s own immune system and other defenses to healcancer, arthritis, diabetes and autoimmune disorders, as well as manyother chronic conditions.

Metabolism is stimulated through the addition of natural thyroid hor-mone, potassium and other supplements, and by avoiding heavy animalfats, excess protein, sodium and other toxins.

With generous, high-quality nutrients, increased oxygen availability, detoxification, and improved metabolism enable the cells, and thus thebody, to regenerate, become healthy and prevent future illness.

When you have been diagnosed with a life-threatening ailment, choos-ing the best strategy can be a bewildering task. No treatment works for

    every person every time.

Most conventional therapies, and evenmany alternative therapies, treat only theindividual symptoms while ignoring what isultimately causing the disease.

The Gerson Therapy is effective with somany different ailments because it restoresthe body’s incredible ability to heal itself, with no damaging side effects. Rather

than treating only the symptoms of a par-ticular disease, it treats the underlying causes of the disease: toxicity andnutritional deficiency.

    Juices

The Gerson Therapy regeneratesthe body by flooding it with nutrientsfrom almost 20 pounds of organic fruitsand vegetables daily, most of which isused to make fresh raw juice, one glassevery hour, 10 to 13 times a day.

Patients suffering from degenera-tive diseases almost always have dif-

ficulty properly digesting and absorb-ing food. This digestive weakness is thesame reason that many patients havedifficulty digesting and absorbing vitamin and mineral supplements in pill orcapsule form.

Dr. Gerson’s clinical experimentation showed that fresh juice from rawfoods provided the easiest and most effective way of providing high quali-ty nutrition and most importantly, produce the best clinical results.

Dr. Gerson’s research indicates that it is imperative for cancer patientsto have a two-step juicer with a separate grinder and hydraulic press. One-step juicers generally do not produce the same quality of enzyme, mineralor micro-nutrient content.

In fact, some patients have failed to experience results simply by usingthe wrong juicer. We do not recommend the use of any centrifugal-type

     juicers for the Gerson Therapy.

    Diet

The Gerson diet is naturally high in many vita-mins, minerals, enzymes and micro-nutrients, lowin sodium and fats, and rich in fluids. The followingare the typical daily foods for a Gerson patient:

    • Three full vegetarian meals, freshly preparedfrom organically grown vegetables.

    • 10-13 glasses of fresh raw juices: primarily greenleaf apple and carrot/apple juices, bakedpotatoes, vegetable soup, fruit and juice.

    • Breakfast includes oatmeal, fruit and orange

     juice.

    • Fresh fruits and vegetables for snacking.

    Detoxif icat ion

Degenerative diseases render the body increasingly unable to excretewaste materials adequately. The Gerson Therapy uses intensive detoxifica-tion to eliminate wastes, regenerate the liver, reactivate the immune system

    and restore enzyme, mineral and

hormone systems.Coffee enemas help the liver

to detoxify the tissues and blood.Patients report that the enemasdecrease pain and hasten heal-ing. The scientific basis for theuse of coffee enemas is well doc-umented. Enzyme systems of the

gut wall and liver are stimulated, and bile flow is increased. Castoroil is used as an additional stimu-

lant of bile flow. This enhances the body’s ability to eliminate toxic residuesaccumulated from the environment, chemotherapy and other sources.

Detoxification also helps to eliminate tumors and other dead tissuemore rapidly after they are broken down by the body. In addition, diges-tive enzymes serve to enhance the absorption of nutrients and assist in the

    elimination of damaged tissue.

    Rest

Because the body is work-ing so hard to detoxify andheal, people on the GersonTherapy need a great deal of

rest. It is especially importantat this time to listen to yourbody. If patients overexertthemselves, it can underminethe healing process. Rest, restand more rest are essential.

    Gerson Recoveries

    Sarita Sud

    Breast Cancer

Sarita was diagnosed with breastcancer in 2001. She had breast sur-gery and some lymph nodes werealso removed. Her doctor called totell her she needed more surgeryto remove other “infected” lymphnodes two weeks later.

This dismal news convincedSarita that the medical treatmentswould never end. In the meantimeher husband did some researchon the internet, found the Gerson

Therapy and showed Sarita theinformation on how nutrition couldheal.

Sarita instinctively felt that thisapproach was right for her. She cameto the Gerson Basics Workshop soshe could learn to apply the GersonTherapy at home. Her effort paid off

and now Sarita is in good health andshares the amazing benefits of theGerson Therapy with many others.

    Carla Shuford

    Osteogenic Sarcoma

    (One of Dr Gerson’soriginal patients)

On September 4, 2011, Carlacelebrated her 53rd anniversa-ry. Fifty-three years earlier, she wasdiagnosed with osteogenic sarco-ma. On that same day, her left legwas amputated at the hip. Sincethe cancer had spread to herlymph system, she was given only sixmonths to live.

Radiation was not possiblebecause of the tumor’s location. In

desperation, the doctors decided todo radical surgery, offering a faintpossibility that her death could bepostponed by 30 to 60 days. Instead,Carla’s mother made arrangementswith Dr. Max Gerson for Carla tobegin the Gerson Therapy as soonas she was discharged from the hos-pital.

For the next five years, her par-ents devoted their lives to pre-serving Carla’s life, Gerson-style.Her father asked the neighborsto help supply the large quantities oflettuce and carrots required for daily

juicing, and some farmers agreed to

allocate portions of their gardens tobe pesticide free for her treatment. With pure, organic foods and dedi-caiton to ther Gerson Therapy requ-riements, Carla recovered.

    The doctors finally grew tired

of requiring Carla to have month-ly chest X-rays that were consis-tently clear. Sloan-Kettering CancerCenter sent out a yearly survey toask if she was still alive, and eachyear, to their amazement, it wasreturned. Carla is now an officialsenior, having turned 65 in April, 2008.

    Mary Harr ington

    Melanoma With LiverMetastasis

Mary was diagnosed with malig-nant melanoma in January, 1996,at age 39. Her original tumor wasremoved and she was given 25 radi-ation treatments along with four

months on the drug Interferon.During the treatments, it was

discovered that the cancer hadspread to the liver. Her oncologistsaid that she could possibly live upto nine months if she responded tothe right type of chemotherapy.

Mary decided to go to the

Gerson clinic. Her conditionimproved during the two weeks shespent at the hospital; she felt stron-ger, gained four pounds and hada new positive attitude. She contin-ued the treatment at home and 10

months later, in September 1997, herscan showed “clear.”

To this day, Mary’s oncologistrefers to her as his “amazing patient.”Mary remains well 12 years later withno recurrence. Her story is on theDVD Dying To Have Known.

    Mercedes LaPine

    Carcinoma

In 1970, Mercedes had a Papsmear which showed a malignancy:carcinoma in situ. She had a hyster-ectomy. Her ovaries were left intact, but one of them showed a spot. Thecancer recurred and metastasizedwithin a few years.

Despite much advice to thecontrary, Mercedes decided to fighther cancer “the natural way.” Shestarted the Gerson Therapy as bestshe could on her own, and also triedseveral other therapies.

By 1979 she had not mademuch progress so she came to the

Gerson Clinic for an in-depth expe-rience of the Therapy. Mercedesrecovered and has remained ingood health ever since as a resultof her commitment. She active-ly continues her Naturopathic

practice, teaching others aboutthe benefits of natural healing.

    Kilaya Cir iel lo

    Chronic Fatigue

For three years before beginningthe Gerson Therapy, Kilaya experi-enced debilitating fatigue, memoryand concentration difficulties, sorethroat, tender lymph nodes, muscle/

joint pain, insomnia and many othersymptoms. He had already been toa battery of doctors and had triedother juicing/fasting programs. Hedecided to research the theoriesof Dr. Max Gerson within the fieldof molecular and cellular biologybefore starting the program.

From what he learned, hebecame convinced that the GersonTherapy would work. And it did. Afternine months on the full program hehad not only recovered but hadreached a new level of physical, emotional and mental health thathe had never known before. He

credits the Gerson Therapy with pro-viding a level of contentment, calm-ness and strength that he had neverdreamed was even possible.

    I rene Stananaught

    Melanoma

In 1996 Irene was diagnosed withstage III melanoma. Her health con-tinued to decline. After reading ACancer Therapy: Results of 50 Cases, she decided to do the GersonTherapy. At first some of her familymembers thought it was a foolishidea, but after seeing the results,

they came to support Irene and thetherapy completely.

In 1997, Irene visited the Gersonclinic for two weeks. She did thestrict diet prescribed by Gerson doc-tors without wavering (13 juices perday and 5 coffee enemas) for two-and-a-half years.

In June 2001, Irene revisitedGerson doctors for a check-up andall the tumor markers were normal.A PET Scan showed her clear of anymelanoma. Twelve years after begin-ning the Therapy, Irene feels fine andstill continues eating healthy and only

    organic food.8

    Ned Wright

    Testicular Cancer

“Today, when I think back towhen the doctor said that I hadthree to six months to live, it seemslike a distant nightmare. His wordsstruck me like a fist in the stomach.I was given the proverbial cancerdeath sentence.”

Ned was diagnosed with tes-ticular cancer in 1999 and he wastreated with surgery, radiation andchemotherapy. After the first twoprocedures, the cancer came backwithin six months. After the chemo-therapy, which was a grueling expe-rience, the cancer was back after

just one month and was now in three

    areas of the liver.

The doctor provided him withanother option: a bone marrowtransplant followed by a high doseof chemotherapy that offered onlya 20% survival rate.

Ned had studied so many other

therapies that seemed to be “magicbullet” attempts at curing cancer. Hewent to the Gerson Clinic on April 3,2001. “The diet was tough and timeconsuming but I followed it just asthe Gerson doctor had prescribed.”

“As you can see by my testimony,I am alive by God’s grace and theGerson Therapy. I am now a Gersonperson, because of a little knownman’s passion for healing.”

    Lawrence KirkPancreatic Cancer

Lawrence was diagnosed withpancreatic cancer in 1993. Hisdoctor told him that conventionaltherapies would not help. Lawrencebegan treatment at the Gersonclinic in December 1994.

After completing 20 months ofthe Gerson Therapy, a CT scan foundno evidence of a tumor on his pan-creas and all his organs appearednormal. A subsequent CT scan andMRI performed six years later con-firmed that Lawrence remained freeof cancer.

Fifteen years after going to theGerson clinic, Lawrence continuesto feel great. He enjoys gardeningand playing with the grandchildrenthat he initially thought he mightnever see.

Max Gerson, M.D., was born onOctober 18, 1881, in Wongrowitz,Germany. He attended the Universitiesof Breslau, Wuerzburg and Berlin, even-tually graduating from the University ofFreiburg.

Suffering from severe migraines,Dr. Max Gerson initially focused hisdietary experiments on preventinghis debilitating headaches. In thecourse of treatment with the spe-cial “migraine diet” that Dr. Gersonhad originally developed for him-

self, one of his patients was cured of his skin tuberculosis as well. This discovery led to further studies of the diet and the success-ful treatment of many more patients suffering from tuberculosis.

Through his work with tuberculosis, Dr. Gerson attracted the friend-ship of Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Albert Schweitzer, M.D. In 1930,

Professor Schweitzer’s wife, Helene, who had suffered from tubercu-losis for seven years, was admitted to Dr. Gerson’s clinic and curedafter nine months. Even Schweitzer’s own advanced (type II) diabe-tes was cured by Gerson’s nutritional therapy. Schweitzer followedGerson’s progress over the years, seeing the dietary therapy suc-cessfully applied also to heart disease, kidney failure, and then final-ly cancer.

To escape Adolf Hitler’s reign in Europe, Dr. Gerson moved withhis family to America, where they took up residence in New York. In1938, Dr. Gerson passed his medical boards and was then licensedto practice medicine in the state of New York. For 20 years until hisdeath, he treated hundreds of cancer patients who had been given
