AccessAbility Resource Centre

The AccessAbility Resource Centre provides services and academic accommodations to students who have a documented learning, physical, sensory, or mental health disability. Volunteer opportunities include note taker, outreach & support assistant, and mentor.

Blackwood Gallery

The Blackwood Gallery is a contemporary art gallery situated on the Mississauga campus. The Gallery presents curated exhibitions featuring the work of local, national, and international professional artists. Blind Duck Pub

The Blind Duck Pub is the campus tavern serving breakfast and bar snacks in a contemporary space with outdoor seats. Campus Council: Governance

The Campus Council is a governance body established by and reporting to the Governing Council. It comprises representatives of the five estates - administrative staff, alumni, government appointees, students and teaching staff - with both governor and non-governor members. On behalf of the Governing Council, the UTM Campus Council exercises governance oversight of campus specific matters, as well as any matters assigned to it by the Governing Council.

Campus Police: WalkSafer

WalkSafer is a service for UTM community members, including students, employees and visitors, who prefer not to walk alone on campus at night. WalkSafers are student employees of the UTM Campus Police who can quickly contact the Campus Police via radio or cellphone in the event of a disturbance.

Career Centre

The Career Centre helps students and recent grads make career and academic plans, seek relevant experience and network connections, and learn the process of lifelong career management via individual appointments, workshops, programs, employment services, events, drop-in services, and resources. CFRE is UTM’s campus radio station, playing a diversity of music in all genres and hosting many events and concerts. Located in the Student Center, the station broadcasts live 24/7.

Clubs and Academic Societies

UTMSU’s recognized clubs are student bodies representing the interests of the student population. Whatever your interests are, you can either join or even start a club to represent fellow students who share those similar interests.

Academic Societies are student-led organizations with a specific academic focus. Almost every Academic Department at UTM has a representing academic society that unites and enriches student life and allows them to participate in accomplishing a set of academic objectives.

Community Engaged Service

Learning (Academic and Non-Academic)

Academic Community Engaged Service Learning is a method of teaching, learning and reflection that combines academic classroom curriculum with meaningful service in the community.

Community on Campus is designated to provide an opportunity for young adults who have an intellectual disability to participate in activities on campus, including auditing classes, enhancing literacy skills, exercising, developing computer skills, and socializing with friends.

Activities

The Co-Curricular Record (CCR) is designed to help students find opportunities on campus beyond the classroom and to have their skills and experiences captured on an official document. The Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI) is the centre for management education at UTM. This collaborative institute provides students with access to professional masters programs in biotechnology, accounting, innovation and sustainability, and undergraduate programs in accounting, finance, marketing and human resource management. Some of the professional masters programs offer co-op, internship or work-terms.

Environmental Affairs Office

The Environmental Affairs Office promotes and maintains a broad range of sustainability initiatives through the engagement of the UTM community. The office has a number of volunteer opportunities available, including tree planter, department liaison, supporter, and ambassador.

Erindale College Special Response Team (ECSpeRT)

ECSpeRT are a team of volunteer Medical First Responders who provide first aid coverage to all students, staff, and visitors of the UTM campus. ECSpeRT members also regularly assist with first aid duties of the Mississauga Division of St. John Ambulance. The team routinely provides first aid coverage for many UTM events and is looking for volunteer Active Responders.

Equity & Diversity Office

The Equity & Diversity Office provides advice, assistance, programming, and complaint resolution to students, staff, and faculty to ensure equity and inclusion on campus. Field courses take students on a journey of learning outside the classroom. Experiences can be outdoor fieldwork, visits to historical sites or cultural events, or interactive tours of industrial sites.

Fourth Year Independent

Research/Thesis/ Study courses

Opportunity to work one-on-one with UTM’s leading and highly qualified instructors in various disciplines at UTM.

Offered in the majority of programs, these courses allow students to conduct an extensive examination of literature in a selected topic or perform laboratory and/or field work in their area of study. In order to qualify for these courses, students must obtain the permission of the department and locate a professor who will agree to supervise them. Hazel McCallion Academic Learning

Centre - HMALC (Library)

The UTM Library offers volunteer opportunities to students through their Ambassador Program. The ambassadors’ goal is to enhance the UTM academic experience by promoting mindfulness, relieving stress, encouraging creativity and peer-to-peer learning, as well as generating positive social relationships. The ambassadors develop and host events and promote the Library services.

I-CUBE is the business accelerator at the Institute for Management & Innovation at UTM. Let's Talk Science Partnership

Program

The Let's Talk Science Partnership Program strives to improve Science literacy in youth through leadership, innovative educational programs, research, and advocacy. They look for volunteers to assist teachers, conduct science demonstrations, provide tours of research labs, mentor students, and more.

Medical Clerkships

The Clinical Clerkship comprises the latter two years of the four-year undergraduate medical education program. The knowledge, skills and professional attitudes introduced in the Preclerkship are applied in the practical context of the clinical setting where students participate as members of a working health care team.

Office of Student Transition: LAUNCH

LAUNCH offers a series of weekly sessions taught by academically successful upper-year student mentors (LAUNCH Leaders) who help new students successfully transition to UTM by gaining familiarity with the campus and available resources, developing academic skills, and becoming part of the UTM community. Office of the Registrar

The Office of Student Recruitment and Admissions is often looking for volunteers to support them through various activities, including specialized on-campus events, regular and private campus tours, and unique projects throughout the year. Volunteers are asked to maintain their commitment for a minimum of four months (one academic term), for several hours per month.

Professional Experience Year

(PEY)

PEY is Canada’s largest undergraduate paid internship program that offers 12- to 16-month full-time work placements for Engineering and Computer Science students in their 2nd and 3rd year of study.

Physical Education, Athletics & Recreation

The Department of Physical Education, Athletics & Recreation is one of the largest employers of students on the UTM campus. Residence Council is a student government of elected residence students who organize residence-wide social events and advocate for an improved student experience at UTM. Robert Gillespie Academic Skills

Centre

The ASC offers a full range of workshops, seminars and individual consultations to help students identify and develop the academic skills they need for success in their studies.
